A High Government Official Having an Affair with a Young Woman is a Big Deal Now?

RUSH: I don't know. I don't know what all the hubbub's about. I really don't. See, I'm old enough, ladies and gentlemen. Some of you may not be, but I'm old enough to remember when a reckless affair with a very young woman by a high government official who had access to powerful, sensitive intelligence was not a big deal. I'm old enough to remember when, as long as it didn't get in the way of the work being done, it wasn't anybody's business. I'm old enough to remember when a high government official had an affair with a very young woman, that there was no security risk involved, that there was no possibility of blackmail. It was a fairly long time ago. It was considered no big deal.

A high government official having an affair with a very young woman was considered no big deal at all to the hip people in New York and Washington. That was only a problem for the hicks. It was only a problem for the hayseeds. Well, I'm speaking of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. If you go back, nobody had any worries whatsoever about it. In fact, back then, when something like that happened, what happened? It trashed the woman. You go out and claim that that's exactly what you'd get if you drag a dollar bill through a trailer park. You go out and the bash the woman. The party of women, the party that believes in women, the party that stands up for women, the party that respects women, the party that gives women everything they want, went out and trashed the woman. And that was considered cool and fine and okay.

But now this Petraeus thing comes along and there's an entirely different look-see into this. Now everybody's worried about the what did she know, what was Petraeus guilty of, what was being covered up? And some people appear to want to get to the bottom of it. And others don't. I still find it fascinating. I'm sorry, folks. I find it fascinating that all this gets released after three o'clock on Friday. Do you realize how much stuff gets dumped after three p.m. on Friday? Not at noon Friday, not at ten a.m. on Friday, but after three p.m. on Friday. I'll tell you something else about this Petraeus and Paula Broadwell thing.

Snerdley, let me use you. Let's say that one of your girlfriends is really harassing you in e-mail and you call the FBI and you say, "Hi, I am Bo Snerdley, and I'm being harassed by a bunch of --" do you think the FBI would drop anything to investigate your problem? They would tell you to take a hike and ratchet up your spam filter and not bother 'em anymore. But a woman calls the FBI and says she's being harassed by somebody. They don't know it's Petraeus. I mean, at that point they don't know it's Petraeus. They stop everything, and they start investigating the e-mails of the woman sending the threatening stuff, and then at first they think that Petraeus' e-mail has been hacked. Then they realize, talking about stuff going on under the desk, that Petraeus is having an affair. But I don't know how you get the FBI to stop what they're doing and investigate somebody harassing you in the e-mail.

We now know who that was. "Jill Kelley, social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base, is mystery woman Paula Broadwell harassed via email leading to FBI probe. Jill Kelley, 37, of Tampa, Fla., reportedly alerted the FBI several months ago about threatening emails she had received from Petraeus alleged mistress, biographer Paula Broadwell. The mystery woman who blew the lid off former CIA Director David Petraeus’ career-ending affair is also tied to the military." What am I reading from here? This is the New York Daily News. She is "a sexy social liaison for an Air Force base in Tampa who says she and the ex-general are just 'friends.' Jill Kelley, 37, a married mother of three from the Gulf Coast city, alerted the FBI several months ago after receiving emails from Petraeus’ alleged mistress, biographer Paula Broadwell, warning the stunning Tampa socialite to 'stay away from' the spymaster. The raven-haired Kelley, who has an unpaid position as a social planner --"

My point here is she's not a ranking military. She's a socialite. She calls the FBI, says she's being harassed by somebody in e-mail, "I need you to investigate." And they do! There's so many unanswered questions with this. Of course, what, if anything, have to do with Benghazi? What, if anything, does it have to do with -- well, have you seen the food stamp news? Oh, the numbers of Americans on food stamps skyrocketed. They held the news 'til after the election. They held the news 'til today or over the weekend. It skyrocketed from the record highs that it already was. But they held the news back.

"...I put him to bed every night and I woke him every morning. He was in bed by himself and he was in bed still by himself when he got up in the morning,” McKeough said during the interview."

Did he ever check under the desk during the day?

Maybe 80 will be the new 30.

And THAT is the best idea I've heard all year. Do you know how it works?

She’s originally an Arab immigrant. She was friends with Petraeus cuz he was a big Arabist, which is OK. Her sister is a WHISTLEBLOWER LAWYER who probably made the initial call with her sister sitting right next to her.

This sister probably knew exactly what BS legalese to say in order to get them away from burning down churches and actually do some work.

Broadwell looks good to me and I'd consider if she wasn't married. Any time one has a relationship with a married person its not going to end well, here on Earth or the hereafter.

This may be the first time a FReeper cited Madaline Murray O’Hair as an authority on anything! Yes, the rumors were rife throughout the Army during (and after) the war because Eisenhower and Summersby were frequent companions and even confidants. But suspicion and innuendo don’t constitute credible evidence of an affair. Here’s an AP article on the subject from about 10 years ago:

If Jill Kelley was a family friend of Petraeus why didn’t she just go to him about the emails?

If you want to be on the supreme court, they will not approve you if you have smoked dope or rented the wrong videos.

Iy you use cocaine or smoke dope you can be president.

If you have rape women, sexually harass them, and have numerous affairs and are married, you can be president.

If you fondle women in office and have sex with one of your interns, you can be president.

But if you’re in another high ranking office, you’re gone because affairs are a national security issue and dishonerable.

“My major objection is in calling Broadwell “young”.”

She is 20 years younger than him, but she was nearly 40 when the affair began. So, your point is well taken that she wasn’t some young naive girl straight out of college.

The situation in Libya is more important than the affair...Petraeus needs to testify before congress. But....if the affair began while he was still in uniform (or wrongly out of it) he needs to be recalled and courts-martialed.....the higher the rank the higher the accountability. The army has been rocked lately with a rash of high ranking officers involved in sexual misconduct. It MUST STOP. It is destroying the good order and discipline of the service.

Also, even though a reservist, I believe (now) LTC Broadwell should be subject to military discipline. At a minimum her Top Secret clearance should be pulled immediately. She should NOT be allowed to continue in the Military Intelligence branch. She may have leaked classified material....she is an obvious security breach.

No intelligent CO would want her in their command.

How do you know that she was an Arab immigrant. I did a search on her and the only thing I found was that she was growing up in Bismarck, N.D., and was the valedictorian and homecoming queen of her high school. Paula Broadwell

Please be so kind and post the source

That’s referenced in “Sioux and Cheyenne Recollections of the Indian Wars” that I got from the History Book Club ages ago. Might be true ... it’s in character for Custer, the narcissist.

Narcissist very likely. But he had a way with the ladies. Moonoseta, Black Kettle's daughter was a good looking young woman and GAC saw to that she was taken along as a prisoner after the Wichita fight. Story widely believed in the Indian fighting Army was GAC caught brother Tom having unwanted relations with the lady and beat him up pretty good. Tom was always both hero worshiping and jealous of big brother and trying to grab his Indian girl would fit. Interestingly, the little Big Horn was something of reunion day. Moonesta was there and that probably explains why GAC’s remains were found completely intact and in the process of being bathed in preparation for a real Plains Indian warriors funeral. Tom was found cut into dog food. By whom I wonder? It is an appealing picture though. Moonoseta searching the battlefield for her fallen lover's body who she would see was sent to the Great Spirit in proper fettle. Interestingly enough Libby Custer devoted a chapter in ‘Tenting on the Plains’, I think, profiling and praising Moonoseta. Pretty good if you can get your wife to write praising your girlfriend long after one is dead. Libby was nuts about GAC and I think the loyalty this Cheyenne woman showed to her beloved George warmed some corner of her heart.

One would think that hacking into the private emails of the Director of the CIA would get one shot by a firing squad, after the requisite ride to the moon and back a few times.
