Indiana? What are they seceding from? They just elected a liberal DEM to be their US Senator. They are reasonably content with the direction of the nation.

I’ll take it seriously when I see the legislature pass a resolution.

Withdrawing from the union is not legal.

Show me in the US Constitution Article/Section that says secession is illegal.

By my count, so far Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky and Indiana have petitioned to secede. Any others?

South Carolina was first last time, what gives?

> The petitions require 25,000 signatures each, by Dec. 10. If they reach the threshold of 25,000, they’ll receive a response from the president.

Yes, in the form of revenge. Maybe the petitioners’ homes will be raided or their tax returns audited.

The petitions all came from individuals and not state governments.

Then they are worthless. This shouldn't be in Front Page News. This is not worthy of the last page. It is not news. It is just a bunch of people who aren't happy.

Until their Duly Elected State Governments petition the United States for Independence or declare their independence, it is just a waste of electrons on a website.

CAUTION! These things are likely traps to entice you to click the link and go to the White House website where your IP address and browser configuration will be recorded for future reference.

There are many petitions for peacefully leaving the USA. The WH says they will give a formal response if a petition gets 25,000 clicks.

So far, the petition on behalf of Texas is the only one of the many with more than 25,000 clicks.

i predict they will all make it.

South Carolina's petition. You have to sign up but that's not a big deal. Make up a name and use a throwaway gmail address.

United State Supreme Court ruled in the late 1800s, after the Civil War, that once a state voluntarily enters the union, it cannot pick and choose when it wants to leave.

Is that so? Does anybody have a link to that SCOTUS ruling?

This could be kindling under a proposed bonfire..
What legal is whatever Eric Holder says it is..
And voting has pretty much died as an alternative..

I don’t mean this to be funny.. Anger is seething..
And if mine is too..

While I’m disappointed in the election results, practically to the point of being distraught, this secession movement is not unlike your run-of-the-mill liberal “feel good” exercise that won’t amount to a hill of beans.

Can we get 25,000 signatures so the Upper Peninsula of Michigan can secede from Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It is not like detroit or Lansing contributes anything to the UP. It is bad when I for myself have to go to Wisconsin for just about everything medical as well as major grocery shopping (Woodmans in Appleton or Green Bay, Aldi’s in Rhinelander). More of my neighbors have the houses up here as second homes from Ilinois. The 51st State Superiorland. Or just maybe the UP can go with Canada. Man it is interesting more and more cash that I do spend in the UP is giving back as Canadian. Oddly enough many positions for employment in the UP of Michigan go unfilled - lack of talented or appropriately skilled people to fill the open positions.

As long as there is Social Security, there will be no attempt at secession.
