Mother always said the bigger they are, the harder they fall. If ever there was any doubt, the stunning case of CIA boss David Petraeus dispels it.
The most important and celebrated military leader of our time has fallen from the sky with a thud that is shaking all of Washington. His personal life and career are in tatters, but that is not the whole story. Not by a long shot.
Petraeus, once talked about as presidential timber, played a big part in the administrations misleading narrative surrounding the murder of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. That we now know he was under investigation by the FBI for an affair and a security breach when he told congressional leaders that the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others was a spontaneous reaction to an anti-Muslim video adds a level of intrigue that is extraordinary even for the spooky world of the CIA.
Before that briefing, the State Department had evidence that the attack was carried out by an Al Qaeda offshoot, a fact that led some members of Congress to suggest Petraeus was parroting the White House political line. His confession of the affair and the FBI probe give that suggestion new meaning because he could have had an ulterior motive for being a team player.

Perhaps he can share who he voted for this go round?
My opinion of Petrarus dropped dramatically when he took the CIA gig. An honorable man wouldn’t choose to work for such a lying POS like Obama unless he had no other options for putting food on his table.
The MSM loves the sex scandal element of this. But if the
General wanted all the hoopla to go away then he needs
to invoke the word “Obama” at every media opportunity.
That is the magic word to make the media disappear.
Yup. One of the many reasons why I did not trust Huntsman.

It dropped for me after he attacked the Koran-burning Florida pastor, for exercising his First Amendment Rights, instead of worrying about killing the enemy.
Really? So, you know everything and all the facts already?
Cuz no one else does.
This story still has many twists and turns yet to be revealed.
There’s too much hero worship these days. I think Petraeus was a pretty good General, but he really didn’t do anything that a lot of Generals would not have done. He was successful with “The Surge”, but I’m not quite sure what was so innovative about it. Generals down through history would have loved to do that if they had the option. I guess we are so used to the Vietnam strategy of withdrawal and “gradual loss” that the idea of trying to overpower the enemy and win was brilliant. After that success, he achieved Rock Star status, and although most people didn’t know where he stood on anything, they projected their ideals on him and he became “Presidential Timber”. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t, but it seems that these days people want their leaders to be gods and they are really mere mortals, some not as strong as ordinary people. Now they are shocked that he has feet of clay.
I think many/most Generals are sell outs to begin with. Many rise to that position more because of their political skills and less from merit.
Petraeus was a fearless, hands-on battlefield General and he has earned our respect for that. However, he should not have served this President after his retirement from the military. He became a political tool of the President and has been giving cover to the democrats since accepting his position.
Also, I disagree mightily with the Counter Insurgency doctrine he re-wrote. I believe in crushing the enemy and imposing your will as opposed to his advocacy of soft-power and misguided attempts to get 7th Century mindset mullahs to like us.
But I digress.
Back on point. Petraeus should testify before Congress ASAP. This Benghazi debacle and subsequent attempts to spin the truth should be fully investigated.
He became a White Colin Powell.
I just hope Petraeus doesn’t end up like Admiral Boorda.
Sorry for the dupe and one correction: General James Mattis is the sole exception.
Excellent description.
The interesting thing is that no one in the 0bama regime ever liked him. And taking out ads that referred to him as "Betrayus" wouldn't engender loyalty on his part. They must've realized that appointing someone who was not in their inner circle to the sensitive position he was in could prove fatal to their nefarious plans. That's why I think they formulated a plan to purge him in the second term. He would be a stumbling block. Unfortunately he obliged by having the affair.
One has to be truly without sin to do anything good against the Democrats. The is no forgiving a Republican so there will be no one to stand against tyrants.
Maybe Patreus was promoted to CIA because they knew they could control him with his past wrongs.
Wasn’t he mentioned as a Vice President candidate or possible Presidential candidate? People knew a long time ago about him. This information is conveniently released now, to distract the public from something else.
