In the wake of last week's presidential election, thousands of Americans have signed petitions seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the United States. The petitions were filed on We the People, a government website.
States with citizens filing include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Oddly, folks from Georgia have filed twice. Even stranger, several of the petitions come from states that went for President Barack Obama.
The petitions are short and to the point. For example, a petition from the Volunteer State reads: "Peacefully grant the State of Tennessee to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government." Of all the petitions, Texas has the most signatures so far, with more than 23,000.

Our advantage now is we control the wealth. That was not true for the south that time.
Could be the Feds saw this as a real threat to them after Obama stole the election, so that's why they bought hundreds of millions of ammo rounds for Homeland Security.
Note: Inflation is a good way to dissolve accumulated wealth.
What does “Quantitative Easing” do?
These are not official state petitions, just the voices of citizens which all levels of government will ignore.
Seven of those 20 have Rat governors, so where are the other 17? Kansas sticks out like a sore thumb.
Ohio now has a petition up. The link:

Maybe the other 10 states realized that filing a petition with the Obama website accomplishes absolutely nothing other than make some headlines on internet news sites that make conservatives look unhinged.
If you’re serious about secession, then you’ve got to pass an act of secession in the state legislature, and even then, we know that won’t be accepted by the Federales. So best get your army raised beforehand.
Where is Virginia? Sic semper tyrannis
It's purely symbolic, but even symbolism has a lot of power. Anything we do that weakens Obama and the far left fringe, or cuts into their confidence that they have a mandate to finish transforming our country into a socialist state, is good for America. And if it does lead to peaceful secession, all the better.
“New york wants to secede? Were not liberal enough? LOL “
Probably Northern, Western, and the Finger Lakes region.
We are actually quite conservative up here and the idea to secede from NYC and Albany gets bandied about now and again.
The perennial joke around here involves NYC falling off into the ocean and the rest of us rejoicing.
Really, we should try to convince the liberal states to secede. It would save us a whole lot of trouble.
California, you want to rejoin Mexico? Asta La Vista!
The rest of you liberal states, aren’t you tired of circumventing that pesky Constitution, or apologizing for slavery? Go ahead and secede, you can be rid of all of that baggage in one fell swoop! It will be like transferring to a new high school where nobody remembers all the embarassing things you’ve done!
This is ridiculous. Wanna make sure we keep marginalizing ourselves? Petitions to secede should do that. They did this back in the day when Wallace lost. No one is going anywhere.
Maybe the NE states could join Canada.
Do you not understand what the word Symbolic means? The people have every right to let it be known that they are not happy. No one expects this to become real.
There are those that would argue that secession will destroy the United States. I don’t know about you, but there has been nothing united about America since at least 2000.
Look at the Romney states (25) vs. the 0bambi states (25).
Look at the issues and name one that we are united on.
Look at the people - divided, divided, divided.
Look at the economy - makers vs. takers.
Hey, it’s almost like Europe, so they should be happy with that.
Agreed, but this is just to show how serious people are about what is happening to this country. Nobody believes that this will actually happen. There is nothing marginalizing about it, the petitions speak volumes.
“Wanna make sure we keep marginalizing ourselves? Petitions to secede should do that.”
People don’t care that you’re worried about what liberals will think.
