Both sides in the 7th Congressional District race are lining up lawyers and volunteers to monitor the final counting of provisional and absentee ballots this week.
U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, an eight-term Democrat from Lumberton, is clinging to a razor-thin margin of victory over his Republican challenger, state Sen. David Rouzer of Johnston County.
An unofficial tally on Election Day gave McIntyre a 507-vote lead, out of more than 334,000 cast in that race.
Since then, more absentee ballots have been counted, dropping McIntyre's unofficial lead to 420 votes, according to the State Board of Elections website Monday.

Mike McIntyre is one of the few ‘Rats who has voted with Republicans even when it risked a primary challenge, and that was before redistricting altered the boundries. He’s far from the worst of the party. I was hoping that he would almost win.
That being said, this one is going into overtime.
If McIntyre would just switch parties, he would have the seat for life. Strange district. They hate Obama, Pelosi, etc...but keep voting for these real blue dawg dems.
McIntyre is one of the very few House Democrats left whom I would take in a heartbeat if he switched to the GOP. There used to be quite a few conservative Dems whom I would have taken, but after we defeated so many of them in 2010 and after so many retirements, we’re down to McIntyre, Collin Peterson of MN, and maybe Henry Cuellar of TX and Dan Lipinski of IL.
Huh? I was hoping he'd get crushed.
If McIntyre doesn't admit fraud accounts for the margin or his victory and resign he should be kicked in the crotch.
If he and those other blue dog swine haven't switched yet they ain't ever gonna. Baraq Obama is the leader of their party, Nancy P in the House. Baraq just lied and smeared his way to another term and they are still dems.
Maybe they were scared off by Parker Griffith getting smoked in his first GOP primary.
Problem with Parker Griffith is that he was a freshman member without a substantial hold on the seat. Add to that he was too Conservative to be a Democrat, but too liberal to be a Republican in that district. Had he remained a Democrat to the 2010 election, he might’ve lost anyway, since it was a retread Republican he faced in 2008.
McIntyre has been in Congress for 16 years, and has a better hold on the seat... however, he would still have a problem in a GOP primary unless the party establishment scared out substantial opponents, and that’s unlikely. Much like Griffith, he’s too Conservative to be a Dem (though the Dems should be more like him) and too liberal to be a Republican.
