53 percent of Americans would blame GOP for ‘failure to avert crippling fiscal cliff’

Washington, Nov. 14 (ANI): Americans are prepared to blame Congressional Republicans for failure to avert the fiscal cliff, according to a new poll.

According to the Washington Post-Pew Research Center Poll, 53 percent of Americans said the GOP would be at fault, compared with 29 percent who said the same of Barack Obama.

The poll found that nearly 10 percent said that both would be to blame.

While 51 percent of Americans don’t expect a deal, Democrats have substantially more faith than Republicans in the ability of President Barack Obama and Congressional Republicans to compromise.

Two-thirds of Republicans are not anticipating a deal, and only a quarter expect one.

However, a plurality of Democrats, 47 percent to 40 percent, expects Obama and the GOP to reach an agreement, Politico reports.

Congressional Republicans are likely to face the blame for any impact.

The fiscal cliff would amount to a giant removal of cash from the economy. On Jan. 1, 2013, the Bush-era tax cuts would expire, along with a payroll tax cut introduced by the 2009 stimulus bill.

While 68 percent of Americans think it will have a major impact on the American economy, a significantly smaller number, 44 percent, expect it to have a major impact on their own personal financial situation.

Nearly 62 percent expect the impact on the economy to be mostly negative, while 20 percent think the impact will be positive, it added.

Who cares? The GOP is pretty much relegated to permanent minority party status after this election anyways. The House will stay GOP for another 2-4 Congressional sessions, then flip back to Dems.

The GOP should just say “scr&w it, we’re going to spend the next generation or two arguing over the crumbs the Dems decide to toss to us anyways so we’re going to do what’s right” and go tough-love here. Let the fiscal cliff happen.

Seriously? Who the hell cares?! This isn’t a popularity contest, this is about the very future of the country. And no matter which way the Republicans go they are going to be blamed, this has been proven time and time again. Just do the right thing for a change!

I would credit the GOP -- but I doubt Boehner has it in him. IMO, he'll just bend over and give Zero what he wants, and more, with the help of the 'rats in Congress.

Beyond the cliff, there is a fiscal gap the size of the Grand Canyon, and we can expect a Japan-style "Zombie Economy" for the rest of my natural life.

The GOP is going to get the blame anyway. Go ahead and go over the cliff. Let’s promise even more free stuff including no charge health care for all. It’s a human right, after all. Give them what they want and conservatives should go Galt just to add an extra nudge. Maybe after a Road Warrior decade, we will try again.

So what? Dems are going to destroy the country - if we try to stop them we’ll get the blame. Let them make every city into Detroit or Chicago or Philly. Corrupt - violent - dependent... We’ve seen democrat ideas at work in Cities - maybe more Americans need to see those ideas at work in their own communities... Maybe that will wake them up.

Americans are prepared to blame Congressional Republicans for failure to avert the fiscal cliff, according to a new poll.

Even though the Rats control the presidency and senate, the state controlled media (SCM) will assure that the Pubbies get blamed (for ANYTHING that goes wrong).

They don't have to be any particular place. if they call 10,000 people, they'll only get 900 answers.

90 of them will be gay. 90 will be feminazis. 90 will be in the abortion business in some way. 90 will be newspaper/magazine people (they lie awake nights waiting on calls from pollsters), and another 90 will be 18 year old dateless college girls!

That gives you 450 answers from people who will give the pollster the most extreme possible leftwingtard answer. A mere 450 will be from possibly normal people. Apparently 350 of those 450 said 'screw this' ~ and only 100 said 'gimmme'.

A real poll would have had 350 saying 'git off my lawn you punks' and only 105 would say 'gimme'. That'd be 70% against, and 30% for ~ or clearly a blowout.

it's possible PEW announces its forthcoming polls to the special interest groups so they can have their people prepared to respond and appear to be 11X the population than they really are!

Actually it's the Democrats who are very close to becoming a permanent minority ~ a higher death rate at the end of life, and a higher abortion rate at the beginning of life leaves their numbers declining relative to those who lead normal lives.

Some of our children will be reading about Democrats some day and say 'wonder what they were like'.

ok Republicans are the favorite whipping boy. They need to become honest, fair, noble, faithful, true, loyal and set an example. Instead they have been adulterers, liars, prevaricators and compromisers. I do not identify as a Republican because of that. I state I am an independent. Both political parties have become craven.

I say give the National Socialist Democrat Worker’s Party everything they want and pronounce it loud and clear.

Collapse this monstrosity now, while we have enough people who remember what a Constitutional Republic is supposed to look like that can build it right.

Only 53%? That means the 47% would blame the commie progressives, or some combination?

Not bad odds, compared to the alternative, IMO.

Let it crash. It’s going to crash regardless. I’d rather it be sooner, not later. Let’s get it over with, and get this country restructured under Constitutional principles, with more states, and social welfare programs that are back in the private sector where they belong, no government meddling in healthcare, no dept of Ed/Ag/Commerce/HHS, etc.

this is why any deal (which will be a bad deal regardless) must be effusively “credited” by Boehner to dear leader obama

I have been of the opinion that Boehner should give obama everything he wants, graciously announce he is doing so, and let the economic consequences ROLL under obama-democrat ownership

obama figures to raise about a couple hundred billion in more taxes from “millionaires”- so let him. Like Kristol noted, half these millionaires are democrats

let obama prove how this piddling amount of money (relative to the soon-to-be $18 TRILLION debt) benefits the country over the next 2 years

They will take the blame no matter what they do or don't do. They will be blamed for any bad outcome, fiscal cliff or not. If any good happens, Obama will get the credit. Those things are preordained. There is no way around them. So, the way I see it, the ‘Pubs have nothing to lose by doing the right thing, which probably is to let it crash.

Then, screw `em. If disaster is averted, Obama gets the credit. Must be nice to be the magic negro.

Take the whole mess over the cliff. Time for a reboot.

“Roughly sixty percent of America believes in Bigfoot. At least ten percent of America believe in Elvis being alive. At least forty percent of America believes in the Loch Ness Sea Monster.’

Let’s not forget that 40% of high school seniors can’t find the Pacific Ocean on a map.
