Look Who's Refusing To Compromise To Avoid The Fiscal Cliff

Budget Talks: If President Obama wants to get a deficit deal done to avoid the fiscal cliff, his biggest challenge won't be Republicans, but his own hard-core left-wing supporters.

Two days after the election, Obama's favorite economist, Paul Krugman, set the tone for the intransigent left in a column titled: "Let's not make a deal." Boiled down, his advice to Obama was this: Don't give in to any Republican demands, even if doing so would "inflict damage on a still-shaky economy." After all, Obama would be better positioned to "weather any blowback from economic troubles."

Krugman's advice may be disturbingly cold and calculating, but he has plenty of company on the left.

Who cares? Let Obama take Krugman’s advice and let us plummet. The sooner we get it over with, the better. Elections have consequences.

No deal... let the treason of obama, reid, pelosi, boehner, mcconnell and cantor be seen for what it is. Let the people feel the pain... let the back room deal go through. ALLOW THE CLINTON TAX RATES TO GO BACK INTO EFFECT (and stop referring to Bush Tax Cuts) and let Medicare and the Military each feel the knife of 750 billion dollars in cuts. The sooner we reach bottom... the sooner we start to rise again. There is no stopping the depression that is coming... but we can usher it in and make it as short as possible... and the sooner the better. krugman will be a hunted man one day... many of these leftists will be.

Any failure of talks will still be blamed on Republicans. “Working together” and “compromise” mean Republicans give in to the Democrats. Democrats don’t have to give an inch.

Notice the narrative changed. It is n longer the “Bush tax cuts for the rich.”

Only the rich benefitted. The Republicans should remind the MSM of that since it was they who lied to the American people.

Let Democrats lead the charge over the cliff. Get out of their way. The Republican PR machine needs to take an observe and report position, making sure there is no confusion about who is to blame for the disaster that has arrived. If the American people want economic, cultural/social ruin and Third World corruption at the polls and in politics, let them have it. Let them have it in abundance.

Republican controlled states should do whatever they can to buffer their citizens from the full impact of this train wreck.

IBD missed an other point.

When in the last 30 plus years has the Democratic party kept their portion of a compromise with the Republicans.

You can never do business, at any level, with a person who constantly fail to live up to their promises.

There are only two things that drive the liberal/progressive/socialist/democratic cabal - power and ideology. Note that keeping their word, to “We, the People.” and Republicans isn't included in that list.

Paul Krudman is as much of an economist as Bill Maher is a comedian.

I agree. the GOP compromising and thus giving legitimacy to the Democrats statist/collectivist policies is not working. Prior to the election, the Democrats were saying that the reason that the economy was getting worse under Obama was because the Republicans were not giving them everything they want. Many who voted for them bought that absurd canard.

Given that the Left dominates the media, academia and entertainment industry, it is clear that it is impossible to debate with people who effectively use fear, envy and other base emotions to counter logic, reason and evidence.

Let us then give the American people a practical education.

Clinton claimed credit for a good economy when in fact it was due to the Republicans taking both houses in ‘94. When the economy started to tank during the latter part of George W. Bush’s 2nd term, he got the blame when in fact the Democrats took over Congress in ‘07.

Let the American people learn what it is like when the Democrats get everything they want. There will be no recovery for them to take credit for and nobody but themselves to blame when the economy tanks.

I am fully aware that when Leftist policies fail, they always call for even more government and less freedom. I have faith that the American people will figure it out in time. If not, we are already condemned to be the frogs in the gradually boiling cauldron of statist collectivism.

IIRC, Carter had a prime rate of over 20%.

Since we have had so many Muslims infiltrate this country since then, this could gt interesting.

They don’t believe in charging interest for any money transactions.

They don’t believe in charging OTHER MUSLIMS interest.
However, they just change the terminology to “I’ll loan you X amount of money if you pay me a FEE of Y”.

All should vote “present” on the fiscal bills.
