Another home-buying opportunity has surfaced in President Obama’s neighborhood, this time right next door.
The owners of the famously vacant land next to Obama’s home in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood are trying to sell the 50’-by-150’ lot at 5050 S. Greenwood Ave.,for $899,000.

(Mostly OT, but) I doubt Obama will end up living in THAT location for long, if at all, post-White House. He’ll find something more palatial. (And by the way, I don’t blame him. Ex-Presidents need protection and a degree of seclusion.) A Hawaiian estate, perhaps, and another home in an urban area, but probably nicer than even this one in Chi-town.

She paid $625,000 full price — so the Obama’s could get a $300,000 discount on their home.
Then later sold a strip of it for $100,000 to the Obama’s.

The owners of the lot purchased it in 2008 for $675,00 with plans to construct a 8,000-square-foot home there but never moved forward with it. The architectural drawings for that potential home are available, too.

That would probably not be unusual. Rather than trying to make sure some lawn-mowing agency with shifting employees are always secure, it’s probably easier for the SS to just mow the lawn.
I don’t have a problem with the SS doing that. The agents are always on site and usually bored to tears, especially when the protected person is always out-of-town, 99% of the time.
It’s just the Secret Service doing what is easiest to address.

An 8000 sq. ft. single story house would fit perfectly with a foot to spare on all sides.
A lot sized at 50 X 150? We could probably squeeze in a few single wide trailers as housing for poor unwed mothers.
Those folks have a hard enough life. Having Obama as a neighbor would be a unnecessary additional burden for them to have to endure.
I like urban agriculture myself. Locally grown pork in particular.
I think a hog confinement facility would be a good fit.

Kinda reminds me of ads on TV when I was a kid offering a deed to “one square inch” of land in Alaska if I remember correctly. I used to visualize a house suspended on a one square inch steel support column.
