Romney Blames Loss on Obama’s ‘Gifts’ to Minorities and Young Voters

A week after losing the presidential election to President Obama, Mitt Romney blamed his overwhelming electoral loss on what he said were big “gifts” that the president had bestowed on loyal Democratic constituencies — including young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics.

In a conference call on Wednesday afternoon with his national finance committee, Mr. Romney said that the president had followed the “old playbook” of wooing specific interest groups — “especially the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people,” Mr. Romney explained — with targeted gifts and initiatives.

“In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Mr. Romney said.

“With regards to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was a big gift,” he said. “Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents’ plan, and that was a big gift to young people. They turned out in large numbers, a larger share in this election even than in 2008.”

The president’s health care plan, he added, was also a useful tool in mobilizing African American and Hispanic voters. Though Mr. Romney won the white vote with 59 percent, according to exit polls, minorities coalesced around the president in overwhelming numbers — 93 percent of blacks and 71 percent of Hispanics voted to re-elect Mr. Obama.

“You can imagine for somebody making $25,000 or $30,000 or $35,000 a year, being told you’re now going to get free health care, particularly if you don’t have it, getting free health care worth, what, $10,000 per family,

At least one Republican has figured out what one of the problems are. The other problem is there's no solutions for the first problem.

No solution while Obama holds the purse strings.

Romney was right about the 47% he is right about his loss.

There can be no other explanation for returning to office an incompetent such as Obama.

So, they had to throw in “overwhelming loss”? 62 mill to 59 mill.

His explanation is only partially correct. He forgot to mention his own inability to get more supporters to the polls and the democrats’ effective voter fraud efforts.

Romney doesn’t get it. Obama is a rock star to a lot of young people and a god to the blacks. Without the near 100% black vote, he would not have won.

Stupid people, Hispanics, African-Americans and fraud all contributed to another 4 years of the nightmare.

Conservatives need to somehow take back publil educations - perhaps a voucher system would bring choice in schools for parents, and teachers.

"The other problem is there's no solutions for the first problem. "

Ah but there is a solution if you meant people working. Put up everywhere 'help wanted for good paying jobs with benefits' and the lines would go around the block. Like in the good old days before jobs were exported to the world. Put people back to work earning money, buying things and paying taxes.

Debt, joblessness and unneccessary health care payments are Reid’s and Obama’s gifts to the young.

Romney should have fought harder for the youth vote- they’ve been totally shafted by the Dems.

^ THIS ^

A genuine conservative -- gifted with the incredible bounty of a six-year head start, campaign-wise, and a hundred million or so in loose change -- might conceivably accept some meager portion of the blame unto himself, for being wholly incapable of closing the sale against a sitting president responsible for real unemployment whipsawing somewhere between 18% and 22%, depending...

... and then there's Mitt Romney.

Romney didn’t win because he was a bad candidate, many people saw him (knew he was a liberal), he did actually fight for the office, was boring........
He was the wrong guy for the nomination.
Funny he is now blaming others of his loss......(eye roll)

Probably closer to 104 to 140 percent Black vote.

You don’t think the proliferation of free stuff is the primary problem? Look where all the turnout happened. People angry that they would lose their free stuff. Many things contributed to our current situation, but that is problem #1. The entire Democrat strategy revolved around the HHS ‘giving’ free contraception in February 2012 and making all employers (including religious groups) pay for it. The rest of the narrative was #waronwomen, and it worked. Whereas women should have been focused on their financial situation, jobs, and expensive gas and groceries, they were voting for ‘equal rights’ so they didn’t go back to the dark ages. That was THE difference in the election...a made up new right to free contraceptives.

I’m not sure some Conservatives understand exactly what happened but it’s actually very simple, the Demographics have tipped to a point of no return. All the illegal immigrants for the past 20+ years have been popping out children here at taxpayer’s expense and now those citizen children are coming to voting age. They were born dependent on Government and they will live the rest of their lives dependent on the Government.
