Since the election, many on the right have echoed this meme. They are convinced that widespread poverty and lack of opportunity will bring a resurgence of the America many of them knew growing up. Grandma and Grandpa's America.
Perhaps these people forget that Roosevelt was re-elected three times during a depression that he helped prolong -- a depression that featured soup lines and starvation in a population that actually wanted to work for a living and went on relief only as a last resort, and then with a sense of shame.
Thanks to food stamps, EBT cards, and other entitlements, Barack Obama actually had an easier time. He just had to threaten that the evil rich would take away flat-screens and "crazy money" to get enough votes. Imagine if people were really hungry.
Roosevelt and the Great Depression is only a mild example of what happens during severe economic stress. Think about Germany during the Weimar Republic hyperinflation. What did that give the world? Look at Argentina, at one time in the twentieth century more prosperous than the United States. Cristina Fernandez easily won re-election after she nationalized retirement accounts. Do you really think that no one views your 401(k) as unfair? What could be fairer than making sure it is kept protected from the greedy Wall Street bankers? Look at what is happening in Greece, with a quazi-Nazi party gaining ground. Look at France, who elected a socialist government to solve problems caused by socialism.

I am very cultural right ...in fact..5 years ago folks like me were on shaky ground here
and we warned and warned and warned that demographics are destiny

now to simply morph into moderate Democrats en masse to appease the takers of our culture and hold power is not much of an option really
but in any event...on a national level given GOP hesitation to actually fight we have no power
whether it crashes or not is beyond our control from now till 2014
i told people here that even if Mitt..weak as he was..won, that our days are numbered by brown in particular birth rates
what is surprised me is it happened even quicker than I feared
now if whites in general voted like my whites do it wouldn't be an issue
but they don't ..whites outside the South and Pioneer West are generally speaking stupid and mired in the different not so socially conservative origin from whence they came over the past 100-150 years
i don't see much hope really
the irony is the most Nordic or Aryan whites trend to be the most liberal today in the USA whilst the Anglo and Ulster Scots the more conservative
that was always the line in the culture war that has been America since the colonies broke up
that wave changed the north early 1800s and it still resonates with many if not most northern whites today
racial minorities...who can blame them...we practically beg them to be victim pets we can fix and feel better about ourselves
and live under this illusion that millions and millions racially and culturally different than the majority stock can simply come ashore here legally or illegally and leave all that behind and become little Horatio Alger clones all at once simply by being here

The truth is that there is not. $1 Trillion of the federal budget is deficit financed.
If that goes on the country will crash.
If we somehow cut $1 Trillion out of the federal budget then those cuts will wreck the economy although this would be arguably better than an uncontrolled crash.
So the premise of the question is utterly wrong. The question is when and how.
Beoming Mao’s China, Stalin’s Soviet Union, PolPot’s Cambodia, or Communist East Germany would relegate the American people to decades of incalculable suffering and finanical ruin. We would very likely be invaded by a foreign power and jihadists would attack us at will. Preventing Armageddon would be a more prudent course.
The entire rhetorical history of Western civilization, and by extension, educational history, had as its purpose the transmission and instruction of virtue, Judeo-Christian virtue specifically.
In just a handful of generations, the public education system has destroyed that concept completely.
How do you sell ideas based on virtue to people who have none?

We’re in Oklahoma (or Hokie-mama, as one of our little grandsons used to call it), so it is a red state. My fear about Texas (and I love Texas!) is that it is going to be taken over by illegals. They will turn Texas from red to blue, I’m sorry to say.

Splendid advice. I had a hard time letting go of a job from which I was unfairly terminated in a previous life. Even when I sort of got over it and, within two months, had a much better job which also paid much better, the anger still festered. By the time the SHTF, I realized how blessed I and my family was for the new opportunity which took us far, far away from the resulting mess.

People are a hell of a lot worse now than they were in Grandma and Grandpa’s day. Not to say the nature of people today is any worse, but their control of it is, and so is their rationalization of doing awful things to others.
