It’s about time!!
But we just got “Honey Boo Boo” on...
I was hoping for “Ow My Balls!” next!
And next years’ hollywood hit “ASS”
I did this almost 25 years ago and encourage everyone to do the same.
The sexual content and foul language the networks are getting away with is shocking — including programming aimed at children and young teens. It is truly perverse.
I’d rather listen to classic rock or conservative radio.
"And there was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn't just for fags and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!"
“as more people awaken to the “fun” of computer games or Ipods or whatever (which aren’t much better)”
If you think people are catching onto the idiocy of TV, and getting smarter, I refer you to the events of last Tuesday.
Penny wise perhaps, but pound foolish.
Other than sports events and the rare spectacular news day (e.g. Sandy) I never watch Obama’s media. Not even the local “news” matters It’s either cable or not at all. You can only insult people for so long, then the product’s been dumbed-down to where only fools participate. No wonder the primetime line-ups have sucked for decades. I can’t remember the last series of any sort I’ve watched. Ironically, last nite I was surfing and read classic episodes of The Honeymooners and laffed like crazy. Clean, simple yet hilarious plots and scripts. Ralph on The $99,000 Answer show, great stuff !
I may have to invest in an over-the-air antenna for live events (specifically, sports), unless there are reasonable streaming sources available for that within the next year.
Same here. Except for "24" the last TV show I watched was McGyver because my son liked it. He moved out of the house in 1992, except for 24 have not watched a TV program since. Only watch TV for the news (Fox), business (Fox Business) and sports. Will not watch any TV live, have a Dish DVR, use pause and ff the commercials.
I CAN’T stomach these shows. Just watching the commercials about them makes my skin crawl.
we have and use a DVR to record our shows. The joy of it is we can speed thru commercials. We also have roku, so we have access to netflix, hulu, etc.
the only news we watch is morning local Mon- Fri to get local info, sports and weather; we only watch FOX news. We also get our news over the internet from various sources. And, we have SIRIUS radio.
And, if the power goes out/gas is unavailable, we have books, games, puzzles to keep us occupied, along with house/yard work & chores, and even hobbies.
We don’t want/need any channel, even FOX, telling us how/what to think. We’re too stubborn, old and independent for that to happen! :)
Yep. I would like to see this headline “Democratic party in sharp decline as more people awaken to their own idiocy”.
Now I would watch “Monday Night Rehabilitation.”
I watch the NFL on the networks, nothing else.I used to be a regular viewer of the evening news but that stopped 10-15 years ago.In the last 20 years the only “entertainment” shows I’ve watched have been Married With Children,Weakest Link and Millionaire.
I guess “The New Normal” now for NBC refers to their lower ratings.
I watch a lot of tv
All the boring history and science stuff. ( not the history channel anymore. They Are too busy showin pickers and pawn stars to show history anymore)
Have heard the name Honey Boo Boo mentioned frequently recently. I honestly do not know who she ((?) is. See post #11
I have DISH and it arrives with 200 channels and I would guess I watch about 5-6 during the course of a month. They force high prices with lots of channels you don’t need. I did see this past week they added the ME-TV - all the shows of the 60’s-70’s. Combat, Emergency, The Rifelman, The Wild Wild West however they are only on half of the day.
The networks need to figure out their niche. The cable channels are beating them in quality and viewership because they aren’t trying to appeal to the masses, they’re trying to appeal to their niche. AMC is the character driven drama network, they’ve learned that there’s a group of people that like stories that revolve around character development regardless of genre, that indeed Mad Men, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels all can have the same core demographic even though on the surface they’re vastly different shows. TLC is the trainwreck lives channel, there’s an audience for people voluntarily living in hell (OK not much quality there, but they’ve got an audience). Every cable network has their primary niche and if you watch the shows you can figure it out. What’s ABC’s niche? NBC? We like to throw around the phrase “lowest common denominator” but that’s not a niche, that’s a desperate grab for big ratings. The mix of reality, drama and comedy all with vastly different audiences doesn’t work anymore. In a cable and internet world people now have the ability to hang out with their own kind at all times, until the networks know who their kind is they’ll keep bleeding.
I’ve introduced my kids to the show “Connections” (all of the episodes are actually on YouTube). Who needs regular TV?
I also watched 2 seasons of 24 after rush was hyping it, but other than that, with the exception of Fox news and Fox business there really is nothing on except the Arrogant, Condescending, shameful display of Moral Depravity and Ethical Bankruptcy.
Almost everyone I know uses a DVR.
I would love to drop our cable, but my husband loves Fox News, Sports and I love ETWN.
Do those TV shows still have the gay comedy relief character ?
Christina Applegate in Married With Children. OMG! It still hurts so good.
I am gross and perverted
Im obsessed n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you can’t look away
I make you think Im delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin out
From your tv set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t got for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That’s right, folks..
Don’t touch that dial
Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin along on your livinroom floor
I am the slime from your video
Cant stop the slime, people, lookit me go
Frankly, my wife has gotten me hooked on the Novelas on the Spanish channel....the women are hot, there are no fags on them, and they now mostly come with English closed captioning.
I was at my gym a while ago, on the lower level working out. When I walked upstairs I noticed everyone was looking at the TVs and laughing — I wondered what was on TV that was so hilarious.
Turns out it was an old I Love Lucy episode - still funny after so many years — without all the sexual angst, depression, stupidness and unreal situations that mark so many TV programs these days.
I remember when Frank did that on SNL, even had Don Pardo recite the “You will obey me while I lead you.....” section.
ya get tired of clipping the remote.. in search of a program where someone is not gay.. or the lead male actors are a bunch of dweebs.
The emasculation and disintegration of a nation’s society is the #1 priority for networks. hell, even cooking and home remodeling shows are infested with an agenda.. sad.
Gee, I wonder how many Founding Fathers were gay? hmm.. maybe History Channel will take that question up, considering such a small portion of the populace drives programming.
Big difference between turning of network TV and turning off TV.. there is a ton of crap on Cable far worse than network TV that get millions to watch daily.
Frankly there is very little on network TV I have been able to find palletable for years.
All you have to do to see how far network TV has fallen is just pick any random show from each of the past decades...
Other than “Maude” trying to shove liberalism down america’s throat the 70s were largely innoculous, you could watch nearly any prime time show with the family if you chose.
By the 80s they were still relatively family friendly, but starting to slide.
By 90s forget family shows.
2000 idea of a family friendly prime time show was all but a joke.
Nothing but crass, crude and completely telegraphed attemps at low ball humor on sit coms.. “Reality” tv that has about as much reality in it as a politicians stump speach, and “Dramas” that are little more than soft core porn.
There are hardly any network shows I even remotely try to watch... The Middle and The Simpsons are probably about it for network TV for me. Rest are various cable offerings, when I decide to watch TV.. MythBusters, Doctor Who, Good Eats (yes I know its nothing but reruns, but I never saw them all and while have no desire to ever be a cook, I just cant help but watch this show) Started watching “American Chopper” again after not watching it for a long long time, but probably will remove it from my DVR scheduler soon...
South Park and Archer are 2 adult shows I do watch.
They are cutting out some of my favorite parts of Andy Griffith to make room for commercials.
About the only shows I watch are on TCM and STARZ Western channel.
I saw AMC degenerate to commercial TV.
Then TNT and TBS degenerate to cop shows and cheap dramas.
IFC had good uncut movie on it, now it has gone commercial with crap.
Over 200 DTV channels and I only watch about two, so I listen to lots of their music radio channels but NOT MTV or such crap!
History Channel has been a joke for a long long time now...
They gave up anything remotely related to history long ago.. with alternat histories.. what ifs. etc etc..
I did watch the Hattfield and McCoy miniseries, but that was the first time I’d turned on the history channel in over 5 years, and I used to watch it all the time.
I pretty much quit watching tv as a preteen in the mid 60’s when I began to notice the tv demographics were changing.
Used to be that you could get up on Saturday morning and watch stuff like The Roy Rogers Show and Sky King and then one Saturday morning I turn on the tv and there is is a bunch of ghetto dwellers with one of them being called Fat Albert. It was never the same after that.
I really hate to be a hard*ss about this (laughs) but anyone who pays the cable companies or satellite for tv service is actually funding the demise of western civilization...(duck and cover!)....8>)
I mainly watch sports, but you can’t get away from the filth even there because the networks show raunchy previews for their sick shows during sports programming. We are about to go the Roku route, so even though I will miss some of my precious college football games :-( it will be worth it to kick cable to the curb.
I Love Lucy was certainly unreal. But it was a good sort of unreality that allowed you to accept the unreal set-up that lead to the comedy. And the comedy was GOOD.
There was nothing real about the heaps of chocolates pouring out of the system that needed to be individually wrapped by hand, but that was SUCH an iconic episode.
I have never seen sex and city, friends, melrose place, dawsons creekk seinfeld, vampires, british wizards with spectacles NONE OF IT.
been out of it for over TEN YEARS and i am proud of it.
Guilty pleasure: leafing through People magazine and marveling at all the people i do not recognize. Remember eddie murphy on sat night live? THAT is the last time i watched that show.
It is simple human debris displaying their perversions and attempting to make people think the perversions are normal.
Ow My Balls!, while we drink Brawndo. it’s got electrolytes.
"...and they call ME Superman..." Cracks me up every time I see that clip.
The one with James Burke?
The show was/is brilliant.
