Chicago Tribune ^ | November 15, 2012 | by Jason Lange

(Reuters) - Superstorm Sandy drove a surge in new claims for U.S. jobless benefits last week and weighed on factory activity in November, providing early signs of how heavily the storm could hit the U.S. economy in the fourth quarter.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 78,000 to a seasonally adjusted 439,000, the highest level since April 2011, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

It was the biggest one-week jump since the spike caused by Hurricane Katrina in September 2005.

So, no one is looking at the numbers from NJ? Those don’t reflect Sandy’s effects so it seems. Wait until next week!

U.S. Postal workers are among the best paid with excellent retirement benefits - which are not sustainable. No business could for long be run the way the U.S.P.O is. Socialism is fine....until the money runs out...yes the U.S. can print more making the $ even more worthless...next in line are the United States Federal and governmental employees.........

So Sandy caused claims to jump in PA and OH which were the two states reporting the biggest increases in claims?

Sandy had nothing to do with this increase. The fairytale numbers reported before the election are the true reason of this huge jump.

They can't blame Bush anymore so now it's Sandy's fault.

They faked all the economic stats before the election. Now the real stats are coming out.
Notice that this tyrannical government kept ALL of the fake economic stats precisely where they needed so that the media could claim the economy was improving. The government committed fraud with this and also the democrats perpetrated massive voter fraud to get the evil communist Obama elected. how much more will we take?

Cummins laid off 1500

The running total on alphabetized the list at that point is 13380.

Cummins is in the engine mfg business, if describing that as part of the automotive sector offends you, suggest a better category.

Comrade,
Regretfully, I must remind you that you are not qualified to employ logic, reasoning or even basic reading comprehension. There are far more qualified people than you to employ these skills in both the government and the official government media outlets. This will be your only warning. Should you question such things again we will be forced to re-educate you, for your own good and the good of the people.
Now, please restate your provacative comments as such: The storm named Sandy caused the unexpected increase in jobless claims in PA and OH. Dear Leader will take the necessary action required to help the poor, homeless (and now jobless) victims of Sandy in OH and non-coastal PA.
P.S. We are watching you.

Four years of “Bush’s fault”, followed by four years of “Sandy’s fault”, with a brief intermission for “YouTube’s fault”. If Obama is not responsible for anything that has happened since he seized power, and he was not informed of anything that happened (whether an attack on our embassies, or an investigation of our CIA director), exactly how did he earn a Nobel Prize and re-election?
