Minnesota employers cut 8,100 jobs in October

Minnesota employers cut 8,100 jobs statewide in October, by far the worst monthly job report of the year.

A massive positive revision to the September numbers helped offset the loss, but the state’s employment and economic development agency, DEED, reported major losses in administrative support and lower-paid business services jobs, which shed 4,800 jobs. State government lost 1,900 jobs, mostly in education, and durable goods manufacturing lost 800 jobs.

“Employment data for October does certainly reinforce the concerns we’ve expressed here, that the recovery, while it does continue, is a fragile one,” said Steve Hine, DEED’s labor market economist. “We’ll be paying a great deal of attention to Congress as they grapple with the so-called fiscal cliff.”

Hine said the weakness in business-to-business service jobs is a bad sign for the economy, even though many of the positions are on the low end of the pay spectrum and a large portion of them are temporary positions.

“You could see it as a leading indicator,” he said.

Don’t say that. Some folks up here have said things pretty close to that already. Fines for moving companies out of State, etc...

We only moved back because both sets of our Parents needed our help as they get older.

Now everyone is looking for ways to move. My vote is still for either Texas or South Dakota...

People on MN always disappoint. Luckily this year they decided to keep Michelle Bachmann around for another term.

The lower-paying jobs are taking a pounding under ObamaCare regulations. It makes no economic sense to force such a benefit for a low-wage job.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs are going to vanish and maybe a million go part time over the next several months, and they will still call it a “recovery”.

There could be new ration cards, bread lines and national rolling blackouts and they will still call it a “recovery”.

Lots of golf course maintenance people and irrigation specialists will have the winter off. Whether they’ll all have jobs come spring is another story.

This is where totalitarian thinking leads to inexorably. The DFL will eventually champion this because it is who they are.

-- how do they continue to pin the label of `recovery' in any way shape or form on this kind of news? --

They don't. This type of news has to be suppressed. The news that reads "recovery" is statistics, and the statistics are massaged to deliver whatever message the propagandist wants to impart.

Don’t feel sorry for them what so ever. They voted to continue with Zero’s policies, let them live with it. Same as the “victims” of Sandy. The unions turned away non-union workers that came to help. I say sit in the dark and freeze your rears off then. Too bad.... soooooo sad..

NO state income tax? no stadiums to fund or light rail boondoggles.

I know. I'm in IT though, so I need a certain amount of infrastructure before the market will support my pay scale.

Although, I have an idea for a full service gun range/shop/training facility. Full 50 lane 1200yrd PALMA range, multiple shooting bays, trap/clays, pro-shop, etc... Would be open to public, SWAT/LEO, NRA events, Appleseed, SHTF/Zombie shoots, and 3-gun Nation.

Dream big. ;-)
