Priebus Will Announce Bid To Seek Re-Election As RNC Leader

By Ralph Z. Hallow November 15, 2012

LAS VEGAS — Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, under fire from some quarters for the failure of the party’s voter-turnout effort on Nov. 6, will inform the RNC’s other 167 members on Friday that he will seek re-election in January, two sources close to the chairman said Thursday.

According to the sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, Mr. Priebus will say Friday during his announcement that 112 fellow RNC members have pledged to support him if he seeks a second two-year term, a number far greater than the needed 85 votes.

As of Thursday evening, The Washington Times had received 51 definite “yes” and four “maybe” replies from RNC members asked if they would vote for him.

An RNC spokesman declined to comment. Mr. Priebus is scheduled to begin an extended vacation on Friday.

Mr. Priebus earned accolades from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and others here for the Republican Governors Association meeting.

Mr. Jindal, the RGA chairman, was asked in an interview whether the Nov. 6 voter-turnout failures in crucial swing states were the fault of the RNC chairman or of Mitt Romney’s campaign and whether he supports Mr. Priebus or someone else for the chairmanship of the party’s national governing body.

“I’m not a voting member of the RNC, but I think Reince has done a great job at the RNC,” Mr. Jindal told The Times. “I don’t think this is one of those things where you point to just one person and say they’re the reason.”

... and, just like that: the BUSH/CHRISTIE 2016 campaign was officially underway.

*sigh*

I think Ryan and Walker support him. All from WI. But who are the alternatives? Haley Barbour has done it before but he’s still Gov.

I don’t think you can place the blame on Priebus. I’m from Wisconsin and he was the guy who supported the Tea Party, spoke at their rallies backed Walker, Ron Johnson, Sean Duffy who defeated Dave Obey. He engineered the biggest defeat the Democrats have ever experienced in 2010 in this state, totally destroyed them. Be careful what you wish for.

In celebration of a job eminently well done, doubtless.

Haley Barbour is no longer governor of Mississippi. Phil Bryant won that job last year.

Just walk away from the GOP. It’s reached the point where you can’t continue to help. Not because you don’t care. But because they don’t.

I agree! I’m just saying. I know what Priebus did in Wisconsin and I’ve been watching him for a long time. He is a core conservative, but look what he had to deal with. Does anyone think the next guy will be better? I hear Steele is considering it, there you go!

Only the RNC would put back in charge someone who was largely responsible for the GOP suffering a crushing defeat.

Tell me how he was responsible for this crushing defeat? He as been there for less than 2 years. The die was already cast, what was he supposed to do? This is why we are losing. The left is determined and never waivers, they just keep on coming. They have the rest of us in panic mode, by design. It isn't Preibus’s fault it's our fault that things are the what they are. Did you want Preibus to be typing the words into Mitt's teleprompter? I understand the fear and panic, but geez. DO you really think a change in the RNC chairman is going to make things better? Maybe Boehner and the boys can pick the next one.

Well, I honestly have to say I don’t know how I feel on this one.

There is no doubt the GOP did very poorly in 2012. Whether a different guy (or woman) at the helm of the RNC would have made a difference, it’s hard to say. Priebus certainly has been stronger than Michael Steele, in that he was more consistent and far less likely to self-destruct in interviews.

There’s also the question of who we would nominate to replace him. It’s not impossible we could get someone a whole lot worse. Especially if we look solely at rhetoric. Replacing Priebus with the equivalent of a Sharon Angle isn’t going to do the GOP any good.

No one here really has the brain capacity to slow down and think rationally. It's much easier to shout 'off with their heads' across the internets.

On the other hand, these same voices are impotent and are a good slip-and-fall away from life in a nursing home.

They need someone like a Newt, Palin or a Governor Walker. Someone that can bring excitement; who has logic like Thomas Sowell. A young Clint Eastwood. A conservative Country Western singer that the masses love. Time to think out of the box. Get hip, GOP-not same ole safe spokesperson. This guy was behind Romney the entire way. When we called his office, he was always saying, it would be Romney. Please, not him again.

Amen to that.

We need to have a serious search for a conservative candidate. If the Republicans want to run him - fine. If not, we should support him as a third party candidate.

I’d rather lose on a split vote to a third party than to keep losing by voting for a “moderate” on the Republican ticket and still end up with a communist President.

Shhhhhhhh. You'll wake the babies. ;)

The people who continually insist we snap-to and accord rapt, respectful fealty to the repeatedly-thumped likes of Reince Priebus and Karl Rove were also, by and large, the ones imbecilically chirruping the praises of "unskewedpolls.com" and Dick Morris this year, as well.

Actually, I'd be perfectly happy to let either/both of these Canadians try their hands at running things over the next two years, simply as an experiment:

They're both aggressive... goal-oriented... and supremely successful in their chosen field of endeavor.

Bonus: neither one of them is Michael Steele. ;)

Run me for President ? But I’d actually want to cut government spending en masse, implement an irrevocable balanced budget amendment, close entire departments, privatize Social Security, end government involvement in healthcare & welfare at the federal level, revoke civil service and its army of leftist bureaucrats (replacing it with the old patronage system — your people come in with you and they leave when your term is up, rinse and repeat). No more gov’t pensions and goodies for these millionaire bloodsuckers. You serve the people, the people don’t serve you. And this all before I even get to the social issues... We’d be lucky to get a fraction of our current Republican officials to agree to any of this, and that’s being kind.

The lack of substance in your post is not going to improve the RNC. Only a discussion of the issues that matter, how to prioritize them, how to select a leader that can do that.

Gotta go to the state level and change the whole RNC. A few hundred votes at the state convention is all it takes to change an RNC committeeman.

Uber RINO Saul Anuzis was replaced by conservative Dave Agema as a committeeman from Michigan in the spring and it only took a few hundred votes to do it.
