JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Defence Minister Ehud Barak sought government approval on Friday to mobilize up to 75,000 reserve troops for Israel's Gaza campaign, political sources said, in a sign of preparations for a possible ground offensive.
The sources, speaking after Palestinian rockets were fired at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, said ministers were being polled by telephone by the cabinet secretary to approve the call-up.

What choice does Israel have?
If all the entities wetting themselves over Israel’s current actions had been spending 1/10th as much time dumping on the Arabs in the Gaza Strip for firing rockets into Israel, we wouldn’t have this situation.
The blame goes much further than the people in Gaza.
Europe, Egypt, where were you guys on this two weeks ago?

From Prime Minster Netanyahu:
"I saw today a picture of a bleeding Israeli baby. This picture says it all: Hamas deliberately targets our children, and they deliberately place their rockets next to their children. Despite this reality, and its a very difficult reality, Israel will continue to do everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties."

I'm afraid that the Palestinians will go to the UN and ask for help. The US will respond against Israel.

It appears Obama’s foreign policy plan is going according to schedule. He knew exactly what he was doing when those in power fell throughout the Middle East
What is the end game? That is the real question.
To: USAF80
If the US tries to take on Israel, UN or no, there will be a lot of US casualties.
We can’t even secure Afghanistan after trying for 10 years, shooting at Israeli defenders is a death sentence for US troops. The Israelis will not have restrictive ROEs, and will hit hard the first time.
See also USS Liberty incident.

We might not support Israel, but there is no way we would actually start a shooting war with them. The US will have its hands full when the Iran verses Israel War lights up. And we are going to have Obama commanding all our troops in harms way. What a cluster puck. We told them this had to be done during the last two years of GWB. But no, Bush Lied and People Died. Well guess what, when Iran and Israel square off now, you wont even be able to count the dead.

Iran has stated plainly, that they will attack US forces across the board, if Israel attacks them. We will have no choice. Assumed everyone was aware of that.

Israel if they really took the gloves off could inflict some serious damage to region. That is if the take the gloves off. They pull the same stunt like they did a few years ago in Lebanon and they are likely to take a few dozen casualties and go home tail between its legs again, This is not your Father's 1967 rapid dog Israel, you have a secular state of Sabras which seem to want to fornicate, dance and smoke cigarettes than fight for national survival.

While recognizing the historical grievances of the Palestinian people, there’s no question that Israel is in the right here. I mean, at this point what do libs want Israel to do? They’re bombing freaking Tel Aviv. Israel has to respond. What’s more, it’s time to recognize that the Palestinian intransigence in accepting the simple right of Israel to exist has given rise to a natural right on the part of Israel to do whatever is necessary to terminate the threat with extreme prejudice. I hate to say that, I my heart goes out to innocent victims on both sides, but I see no way other than massive, historically-decisive retaliation at this point.

On the eve of the Yom Kippur war in 1973 many claimed that the Israeli youth were decadent and influenced by the Hippies - that they are incapable of fighting and in the end they fought like dogs and mauled the Egyptian and Syrians. Not only did they repel a surprise attack on 2 fronts, they pushed deep into the enemy's territory. So while this is not ‘67, do not underestimate a nation of Jews with their backs to the wall.

There is no way you do this kind of call up and not go into Gaza and finish the job. The article fails to mention the reservists being called up are not limited to those resident in Israel. There are many reservists spread around the world, and these people are now flying back to Israel at the government's request. IMHO there will be a major ground offensive into Gaza.
