Five leading EU countries, but not the UK, have said the Union needs a new military structure to manage overseas operations.
The foreign and defense ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain issued the call in a joint communiqué after a meeting in Paris on Thursday (15 November). The paper says: We are convinced that the EU must set up, within a framework yet to be defined, true civilian-military structures to plan and conduct missions and operations.
The communiqué also calls for more pooling and sharing of EU defense hardware in the context of crisis-related budget cuts. It identifies space, ballistic missile defense, drones, air-to-air refueling, airlift capacities, medical support to operations (and) software defined radio as pooling areas.

So the EU is getting into the nation building business as well. What could go wrong with nation building in Africa?
What is it with leftists?
The EU is weak and floundering and they always think the answer is more powerful, more centralized government.

They’re stockpiling gold, possibly to relaunch the euro as a gold-backed currency (the world at large hasn’t lost confidence in it yet) or perhaps relaunch the Deutsche mark (which the Bundesbank has been printing). They have always wanted a united military, even going way back to the late 50s.
I am sure that Napolean also wanted a united military.
Is that confirmed yet or still just rumor, the printing of marks?
Thanks for the link. Her, “I think...” sounds like speculation, even if it is from a credible source, though it may well be true. I wouldn’t bet on the Euro, anyway.
