Hey GOP, take the Palin cure
Los Angeles Times ^ | November 18, 2012 | Charlotte Allen

The Republican Party has been doing a lot of hand-wringing and finger-pointing since the presidential election. Half the conservative columnists and bloggers say the GOP lost because it overemphasized social issues such as abortion and gay marriage. The other half says the party didn't emphasize them enough. And everyone denounces Project ORCA, the campaign's attempt to turn out voters via technology.

But I've got a suggestion for cutting short the GOP angst: Sarah Palin for president in 2016.

You think I'm joking? Think again.

Sarah Palin is the greatest political leader I’ve seen in the past 50 years.

But the Republican Party wouldn’t let her anywhere near them, for fear that she’d broom them out the way she broomed out the corrupt Republicans in Alaska, as well as the corrupt Democrats.

I would back her with everything I’ve got. But the question is, how do we get her in there? I was hopeful the last time around—but no luck. If someone can figure out a plan to put her back into the running, I would be delighted. It’s about the only chance I can see of saving our country. There’s no one else in sight who could come anywhere near her at the job that needs doing. And after 50 years and more of disappointments, with the sole exception of Reagan (and even he couldn’t cut spending or reduce government more than a little), I very much doubt that anyone else of that caliber will appear on the scene.

What you call “negativism” is reality, whether you are prescient enough to see it or not.

Thanks for pointing that out.

In 2012, the GOP had incredible advantages. The terrible economy, high unemployment, high gas prices, Benghazi-gate, Petraeus-gate. Their campaign coffers were loaded.

If they could not win in that kind of environment, they really need to get out of the political arena, and find something else to do.

Pathetic is right. They latched their fortunes to a candidate who they felt would win with independents and even liberals. They could not even get as many votes as McCain/Palin in a really bad year for the GOP, with nothing going for them.

“Defeatist” a better word? All I’m saying is you are either for us or against us. Reality is what we make it. It isn’t preordained.

I’m not a huge fan of Ron Paul, but he did have quit a significant following that should have been brought into the tent.

But the party-first ABO crowd said that Team Romney did not need their votes...

Voting Died.... Nov..6th.... wake up...

I'm with you. The moochers now outnumber those of us who work and they're voting our money and wealth away from us via the so-called "ballot box."

I've had the tagline below for a number of years now, and now we see the truth in it. When the ballot box no longer counts, the ammunition box does.

I know what's in my ammunition box.

I have any number of reasons to not like him politically, but I have come to the conclusion that on a personal level he is a decent and good man.

Echo your statements. Romney held or flip-flopped on several positions that concerned me greatly however like you I believe he's a good and decent man. I voted for him in the hopes he'd become President and that we Conservatives would at least have a chance to sway his positions closer to ours.

No one in their right mind can say with a straight face that we'd have any chance of swaying Obama to our side, at least with Romney there was a chance.

Anyway, the election's over and my vote was cast (not that it mattered living here in Illinois.) I can live with having vote for Romney believing him to be a good, decent man and I'll not throw him under the bus like so many other (disgruntled) voters, Republicans or Conservatives have.

I really think that the GOP lost this election when they stabbed her in the back during and after her VP campaign.

No doubt some were lost by the terrible actions of the GOP-E in 2008 and again in 2012, but I don't think you can attribute Romney's loss to that alone. IMO, Romney lost the election because he neglected to 'close the deal' with the American people in the 2nd and 3rd debates. After the first debate Romney "played it safe" rather than playing to win.

It's like prevent defense in the NFL, never liked it, causes more teams to LOSE games than actually WIN then.

If they had stood by her, she would’ve been re-elected Governor of Alaska...

One problem here: Sarah was in the middle of her first term as Governor of Alaska when she resigned her office due to numerous lawsuits that her political detractors/enemies in Alaska kept filing. The State of Alaska doesn't provide legal defense for it's Governor, it was on Sarah and her personal finances to defend against a tidal wave of lawsuits being filed.

Fact is, she resigned her office rather than fight (I don't blame her on that point, her family's finances and financial well being has to come first) and because of that SOME will view her as damaged goods (a "quitter" when the going gets tough.)

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. I like her, I wish she'd have run THIS TIME and because she didn't I think her time has passed. Regrettable, IMO.

First things first: LTNS. Glad to see a fellow class of '98 still hanging around.

Now back to business: do you really thing he took a 'dive' deliberately?

Should’ve just ran McCain/Palin again if we wanted to get at least as many votes as we got last time.

I’m not sure if anyone has a better chance against Hillary in 2016 than Palin. The “woman card” is going to help Hillary get big turnout from women. Palin leading the GOP ticket should help blunt that effect. It will stop the media from being able to play the “first woman president” card as a meme to help Hillary. The media going gaga over that just like they did “first black president” will push Hillary over the top of any man the GOP might run.

And as we all now know, this “cultural” crap is all that matters when winning presidential elections. We’re not going to be able to win on the issues no matter how right we are.

I don't think so. The fact that she didn't run this time only helps make her more viable next time. The GOP-E got their pick this time and failed miserably. Next time the Republican primary voters should realize they need to go 180 degrees opposite of what the GOP-E wants, which is Palin.

Had the media been neutral Romney would have won by 10-15 percent. Well, the media was, is, and will be much harder on Palin than they ever were on Romney.

Nonsense. The media will be equally hard on any Republican we put up. They didn't "go easy" on Romney. Any belief that you can pacify the media by picking a candidate they'll like is totally ill-conceived.

1) no outrage over having the election stolen from him.. not a squeak..
2) He knew he would loose.. must have been in on it...
3) extremely weak responses to Obama in the debates..
4) Romney-care “IS” Obama-care..
5) He never says anything negative about the Unions.. ever..
6) He never even mentions the Unions positive or negative..
7) He is a liberal posing as a conservative..
8) ONLY Rinos are fooled by him, democrats and conservatives know who he is..
9) Not all republicans are republicans..
10) He is a poseur, shill, fake, phoney, figurehead, facade..

** The people of Mass. know when they see a liberal.. all others cannot and will not hold office in MAss.. Republicans chose the absolute bottom of the barrel.. even Juan McLaim was a more honest liberal..

You are an atheist then? If I were an atheist, I would feel as you do. I see no human means for solving this. But God does exist. We are only one good miracle away from freedom. He waits for us to repent, I think. We kill, or allow to be killed, untold millions of innocent children. We embrace, or allow to be embraced, all manner of sexual perversion. We raise up idols to ourselves, our own ingenuity, our own kind of entitlement mentality, our own evolution to deity, and we are surprised to learn He is not amused.

Statism can never win in the end. It is unnatural and inefficient, and God’s system of nature will fight it until freedom once again lights our way. The only question is how long the darkness of this particular winter. If we seek God’s help, and learn to not run to God’s enemies for help, we may yet escape this trap now closing on us. One person alone cannot do it. I am convinced this is why Sarah decided not to run this time. I think she could see this all coming. She might have gone forward anyway if she knew we had her back, and some of us did, but not enough to overcome what was coming.

I can't tell you the many times I had to bite my tongue- or rather hold my fingers- when someone here referred to him as a "moderate" and a "centrist", during the campaign. I think the real rino's and centrists will be offended that he was referred to in that manner, because they occasionally vote with the republicans just to remind themselves and the party that they are still a member.
