ALBANY — City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan has officially announced her candidacy in next year's mayoral race.

Sheehan, 48, who was elected treasurer in 2009, had long dropped hints about a planned mayoral run. On Saturday afternoon, in front of Washington Park's Moses Statue, the Democrat made it official.

"Let's face it: There is only one office in Albany that can deliver the changes many of us want," Sheehan said. "I am here to announce that I am running for mayor."

Can we assume the current Mayor is also a Dem? Is s/he not running again, or is this a primary challenge?

The current mayor is also a dem. I’m not sure this has much importance to anyone but in Albany. Sorry I thought this girl was Cindy Sheehan, my mistake.

I feel pretty dumb, go easy on me, ugh.

Albany has had its own Democrat machine for a long time. No Republican has won the Mayor’s office since 1918.

Albany... yes, I assume its a Dem

Wiki says....

Albany continues to be dominated by the Democratic party as enrollment in the city was 38,862 in 2009 compared to Republican enrollment of 3,487.[260] This gives Democrats a 10–1 advantage in the general election. Every elected city position has been held by a Democrat since 1931

Going out on a limb here, and based only on her party affiliation, this Sheehan probably has more in common with Cindy than their last name ;)

Thanks for the info about Albany politics. Guess I know one place we won’t be moving to any time soon. I have family in the Albany area, but not the city itself. As I think of it, I don’t think there’s a place in all of NYS where I’d move, tho I do enjoy visiting.

.... If she runs on the ...”I am not the spawn of the Devil: George W. Bush” platform .... she probably has a great chance of winning.

Albany democrats perfected the system of jobs and handouts for votes when Obama's granpappy was a mere baby in a Kenyan mud hut.

Funny how civilian casualties by Obama's drone attacks are approved by Code Pink & Ms Sheehan.

Funny, I thought they were anti-war advocates.

I guess they are just anti-war advocates when a Republican is in the WH.
