Politics: Union intransigence and unrealistic expectations at Hostess Brands have forced the bakery to shut its doors permanently and throw 18,500 people out of work. So much for Big Labor caring about the little guy. A down economy and two restructurings in three years left Hostess, maker of Twinkies and Sno Balls, in dire fiscal straits. The company warned its workers, union and nonunion, to make concessions or everyone would go down in a liquidation. Instead, one union, the AFL-CIO-affiliated Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International (BCTGM), imagined the company was bluffing and went on strike.

I heard on one of the talk shows that the unions were so enbedded into Hostess that were not permitted to ship their bread and pastrys in the same trucks.

Yup, Drakes are gone here in VA, too. I got boxes of crumb cakes for my daughters, ring dings for me, and devil dogs for all of us Friday and Saturday. Nine boxes total for me, 12 boxes total for them. :~) Went out today and didn’t find even one box more.
Make sure y’all note that not ALL unions were against the deal with Hostess.
There were 12 unions in all involved in this deal. Some were astute enough to read a balance sheet.
Heck, they did it to big Steel, and they almost did it to big auto. They continue to kill the goose that lays the golden egg, and yet, they’re too damn stupid to understand why the outcome is always, ALWAYS the same.
A lot of Hostess problems were looting and pillaging by private equity Democrats including the beloved Dicky Gephardt.
I’m sure Baraq will call them out at his next presser.

because drivers that deliver cake cannot deliver bread and drivers that deliver bread cannot deliver cake so they had to have two different trucks to deliver cake and bread products to the same store and then another employee to move the product from the store room to the shelves that and drivers wouldn’t load their trucks and workers who loaded one product couldn’t load another...
I argued with my friend an Obama union thug. His reasoning was the employees
had to risk losing their jobs because they gave in too many times.
I said to what extent do you demand wages in lieu of the company being bankrupt? There is no hidden gold the company is operating at a loss.

Years ago I had a friend that worked for Ace Hardware in the warehouse. Every 2 years the contract came up and they would strike, every time. I told him he was being stupid. In the end, Ace closed the warehouse and built a new one 50 miles away and hired all new people. Refused to allow any to transfer.
