A man attempted to rob a Beer For Less store in Millcreek is identified
Coroner Lyell Cook tells us Patrick Atkins, 21 years old, was pronounced dead at Hamot yesterday just before 9 pm. Cook says he died of a single gun shot wound to the chest, and Cook ruled it a homicide.
The shooting happened just after 8 tonight at the Presque Isle Beer For Less store at 2756 West 12th Street.
Atkins reportedly walked into the store with a small handgun in an apparent attempt to rob the store.
The clerk in the store was armed with a handgun and shot the suspect three times.
Atkins stumbled from the store and collapsed a short distance away.
God,I’m just dyin’ for a beer....
I love when liberals say people rob stores to feed their children or pay the bills and because of that we should have compassion.
More like public service.
Usually “homicide” implies murder. I hope that’s not the case here, since it would seem to be justifiable self defense.
All deaths caused by another person are called homicide by definition. When a person is executed by the state the coroner lists the death as a homicide.
That’s what I was thinking. So you can have negligent homicide, or justified homicide, or criminal homicide, or premeditated homicide, etc.
Or, I hope they decide in this case, self defense.
‘Holdup muh beer’
You don’t have compassion for someone without beer?
Nicely done—D.R.T. Somebody should buy that clerk a beer.
Michelle would never allow anyone to have free beer...it makes you fat!/s;)
Strange that they use a Colt Delta Elite to illustrate their story. In the real world outside of journalism, very few people who can afford a $800-$1200 handgun would ever be shot robbing a “Beer For Less” store.
Hasn't even been drinking legally for a year and he already ran out of money?!?!
Great reporting. Clearly have their facts straight.
“Died of a single gunshot wound...”
“...shot him three times...”
Probably shot him with one of those machine gun glocks.
The killing of one human being by another human being.
“Beer for less”.
Well, I’m glad he saved even more:)
A cheap beer store in Erie Pennsylvania? I’ll bet their top seller is Yacht Club. (A beer for those who can’t afford Schmidt’s Bavarian.)
Now that is a tight grouping!!!
1. This man was killed after trying (not during the attempt?)
2. to rob a beer store. (Did he tell the beer store to put up it's hands, and give him the money?)
They need to post their home and business addresses. That would be more compassionate. Also, the times no on will be around so we can "shop" without interruption.
‘Usually homicide implies murder’...
But not neccessarily, you’ve heard of justifiable homicide.
Technical term. Homicide as defined in the UCR and part of state law is the intentional killing of another, without respect to motive or justification. That’s what the death certificate says. There are only five choices - homicide, suicide, accidental, natural or undetermined.
It is further broken down into justifiable and non-justifiable. This will likely be ruled justifiable.
Interesting point, under state law the death certificate of an executed prisoner reads ‘judicial homicide’.
When a person is executed by the state the coroner lists the death as a homicide.
