On November 6, 2012, 3.2 million fewer Americans voted for Mitt Romney than President Obama. 61.8 million Americans voted for Obama, while only 58.6 million voted for Romney.
Despite losing the popular vote 51% to 48%--not a landslide for Obama by any means, but on the other hand not the neck and neck outcome many predicted--Mitt Romney would be President today if he had secured 333,908 more votes in four key swing states.
The final electoral college count gave President Obama a wide 332 to 206 margin over Romney. 270 electoral college votes are needed to win the Presidency. Romney lost New Hampshires 4 electoral college votes by a margin of 40,659. Obama won with 368,529 to Romneys 327,870.
Romney lost Floridas 29 electoral college votes by a margin of 73,858. Obama won with 4,236,032 to Romney's 4,162,174.
Romney lost Ohios 18 electoral college votes by a margin of 103,481. Obama won with 2,697,260 to Romneys 2,593,779
Romney lost Virginias 13 electoral college votes by a margin of 115,910. Obama won with 1,905,528 to Romneys 1,789,618.
Add the 64 electoral college votes from this switch of 333,908 votes in these four key states to Romneys 206, remove them from Obamas 332, and Romney defeats Obama 270 to 268.
Overall, voter turnout was down, from 131 million in 2008 to 122 million in 2012. Obama won 7.6 million fewer votes than he did in 2008, and Romney won 1.3 million fewer than McCain in 2008.
Romney improved his vote total's over McCain's by the slightest amount in three of these four states, but in Ohio, he actually had 81,000 fewer votes than McCain in 2008.
What do these facts tell us?

If they didnt count all the dead voters, illegals, and fixed the Obama only voting machines things might have been really better.
Hypothetical excercises with the electoral congress are pointless. It’s possible to win with about 25% of the vote, so what?
Still don’t understand why Romney didn’t demand a recount.
Romney should have won by 5 million votes.
Its very easy to excite the base with incendiary comments. Weve seen throughout the campaign that if youre willing to say really outrageous things that are accusatory and attacking President Obama that youre going to jump up in the polls. You know, Im not willing to light my hair on fire to try and get support. I am who I am.

Yes, it could leave one to think ‘was he in it to win it’?
I think it’s pretty clear the country has tipped.
So the left was very good at knowing where and how much to commit vote fraud...
“Meh” outweighed ABO in too many people’s minds.
Romney votes were thrown away, Obama "votes" were fraudulently manufactured.
This was no election. This was a coup d'etat.
BUMP!!
JOHN 10:10: the enemy comes only to steal, kill and destroy..
Obama’s ground game.
The number is not 333K. You need to divide it by 2 and add 1 in each state.
In other words, if 20,331 voters in NH, 36,930 in FL, 51,741 in OH, and 57,956 in VA had switched from Obama to Romney, he would be the president.
166,958 is the actual margin, as for each vote that switches from Obama to Romney, is -1 Obama +1 Romney.
1. They tell us that Romney lost a chunk of his base.
2. They tell us that he ran a lousy campaign.
3. They tell us he was the wrong candidate.
All of the predictions about Romney's scorched earth campaign killing his chances with PO'd conservatives could be correct.
All of the predictions about Romney's vanilla policies not being a contrasting record to run on were borne out without a doubt in my opinion.
And all of Romney's hesitancy during the campaign itself to stand up and fight might have turned some people off.
Finally, every knew this would come down to ground game in Ohio, Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, Iowa, and even Wisconsin.
And Romney's ground game crashed and burned due to one computer program, a basket into which they'd put all their eggs.
I just sincerely hope that the stupid party will not invite Romney back in 2016 for an encore performance because the gop-e loves him.
...so all these stories of 'massive turnout' were nonsense..?
Add another author to the roster of idiots.
Romney is 400,000 votes behind McCain as of last Friday, with hundreds of thousands of ballots still uncounted.
Of course the drop off for Obama, while real, is much smaller than 7.6 million.
And in those swing states, Democrats are in charge of the voting. How convenient.
We no longer have honest elections in the USA. Citizens will have to find other ways of dealing with the business of governing their states.
166,958 is the actual margin, as for each vote that switches from Obama to Romney”
Looked at it that way, I’d have to say that fraud was a major contributor.
Likely the guarantor for the obama campaign.
I guess I should have voted a few thousand more times.
Would’ve, should’ve, could’ve...the lazy asses in those states just couldn’t take the time to make their vote count. Now you got 4 more years of O-pression.
The nonsense is people are comparing the vote totals the day after the 2012 election with the final certified vote totals from 2008; then even worse is trying to come up with elaborate "explanations" for a drop in turnout that doesn't exist.
It actually takes upwards of a month in some states to actually count all the ballots and then certify results.
As just ONE example (California is not the only state with uncounted ballots, they're simply the state with the most, and they actually post updates of how many unprocessed ballots they have, which most states do not) California has 1.7 million unprocessed ballots remaining.
Overall turnout will perhaps be lower in 2008, but not by nearly as much as these worthless articles written by imbeciles claim, and likely most of that drop will be in New York and New Jersey, because of Sandy.
So Why are republican elites are in panic mode? They started pandering illegals on Nov.7th.
“This was a coup d’etat.”
Yep
Misery loves miserable company.
Yep - and now we’re stuck with Bammy
Several months ago, many here proclaimed that they would rather see Hussein re-elected than vote for Romney.
They’re the ones to thank.
There assuredly were not "millions" of either, though Gary Johnson got over a million votes - most of those are likely just hardcore Libertarians that always vote libertarian. Goode only got a little over 100,000 votes.
It's impossible to quantify those who didn't vote, but based on comparisons to 2008 and 2004, there's little evidence that any conservatives who usually vote did not vote.
Those who were never polled were those McCain voters that didn’t show up. Asking “Republicans why and citing 4 reasons which might apply. That would give US the answer, partricularly those who voted for McCain but didn’t vote this time.
I’ll bet the majority felt “it made no difference” and the 2nd most reason they would cite “Romney was going to win anyway and my vote wasn’t needed”
The RNC and DNC made their Consent Decree 30 years ago, in 1982. The agreement in effect gives a carte blanche to the Democrat Party to commit vote fraud in every voting district across America that has, in the language of the Consent Decree, a substantial proportion of racial or ethnic populations.
http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/why-the-gop-will-not-do-anything-about-vote-fraud/
Send this to your Repub congresscritter demanding an explanation; but, don’t expect one.
I’m changing my affiliation to Independent.
Exactly...was JUST gunna say that....the extra votes needed were in the weeds.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the very heavy democrat counties/precincts in the battlegrounds delay reporting until the rest of their state had reported?
Here is some more interesting information.
LA County went for Obama by one million votes. Cook County(Chicago area)also went for Obama by one million votes!
These two counties are almost two-thirds of Obamas lead over Romney in the whole country...
Democrats were not in charge of voting in Ohio. I live here.
We have a republican Governor, Secty of State, Treasurer, House, Senate, and Supreme Court. And the Secty of State runs our elections.
So, there are no excuses in Ohio other than extremely, lousy ground game. They thought a ground game was phone calls. Maybe once upon a time, but ground game now is identifying your supporters and getting an early ballot in their hands or driving them to the polls.
Anything else, any other kind of ground game is just a fantasy based on a hope.
Exactly. My first reaction was that Romney lost because he was a lousy candidate, even less inspiring than McCain. But there was clear evidence of massive vote cheating in several swing states such as Pennsylvania and Florida. I suspect that if the count had been honest, Romney would have won.
But it's not entirely a matter of either/or. Massive vote cheating was only to be expected, with clinton having set the precedent (not to mention JFK and LBJ) and Obama clearly even worse than clinton. The only way to win was to take a strong stand and win massively, with too many votes to counteract even with vote cheating at the level of 3 or 4 million, which is probably what it all added up to. Just like Palin won the governorship in Alaska against two corrupt machines, Democrat and Republican.
Certainly Romney conceded too soon, and failed to stand up for his base. Even before the polls closed, the cheating was evident. And those districts where Obama won with 99% of the vote, and with more votes than registered voters, hardly could be defended.
I thought Romney ran because he felt ENTITLED to the job as a Mormon Bishop with a planet almost in his hands. But he behaved more as if his job was to cut off the conservative candidates at the knees with lying ads, and then cave in to Obama. Who was NOT a strong candidate. Obama had nothing to recommend him but race, welfare dependency, liberal idiocy, and corrupt cheating at the polls.
Excellent summary, xzins.
I just sincerely hope that the stupid party will not invite Romney back in 2016 for an encore performance because the gop-e loves him.
I'll bet he's already planning his campaign for 2016. It's pre-ordained, donchaknow??
He could have won in the absence of massive voter fraud too.
thanks for the “votes needed” correction
anyone looking at helping ANY next GOP pres campaign needs to acknowledge those numbers and plan accordingly, while hoping to preserve the vote margins in all other states; hopefully any such plan would look to exceed the “minimum needed” in the four states used in the model
Nothing like having a total fraud as President of the United States.
snip—”PolitiJim writes for Gulag Bound, November 13, 2012, that during the weekly True the Vote webcast, Catherine Engelbrecht related a meeting she had with Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), asking what the GOP would do about voter integrity. The answer?
Nothing. They arent legally able to.”
THEY AREN’T LEGALLY ABLE TO.
Could be any number of reasons.
Col West has opened the door.
We must fight election fraud.
It falls on We the People.
Silence is consent

MITT ROMNEY TWEETS ABOUT ELECTION FRAUD:
MITT ROMNEY in 2012! @PlanetRomney #tcot The Competent Conservative: Elections Have Not Yet Been Certified. Heres What You Can Do: Here
Excerpt from Mitt Romney's reference:
These elections are NOT certified yet. The only way to get this investigated, much less recounted or overturned, is through the Secretary of State of each of the five key states: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. EVEN IF YOU ARE IN ANOTHER STATE you can help. But it wont do any good to dilute our effort to challenge California or Michigan or other states. Until a major group gets involved to do more, here is the plan: Contact the Secretary of State of the state in question. See contact information below...

We can not wait for 2014 and 2016 to regroup and figure out new strategies. By then it will be too late. The Marxist/Muslim usurper will have completed his planned distruction of America. That's what people fail to understand.
We must act NOW.
Start with the election. If we let the Rats get away with this massive voter fraud, we're no better than a bananna republic.
We must keep digging and pounding him every day, in every way we can- phony birth certificate, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, his hidden life, records....
We are FReepers. We must fight!
Those who shrug and accept this atrocity without a fight are not worthy to be called Freepers!
As I pointed out in another thread "registered voters" tend left of our old model of "likely voters" but I think what was a "likely voter" is shifting to include more of those left-thinking people.
We should not pin our hopes on Obama's name not being on the ballot in 2016 and assume those additional voters he managed to cling to won't stick around for his heir apparent. The Dems cracked the code on how to get its people to the polls in a modern way. Republicans did not.
This alarms me because it brings to mind CA slipping away statewide in the 90s.
It was because Mitt Romney is a gentleman, doncha know, and gentlemen do not accuse others of base behavior.
The biggest, and most glaring failure, was that Mitt did not keep his base together. A number of the more conservative voters, that turned out for Sarah Palin in 2008, either stayed home or undervoted on the ballot when it came to a Presidential preference.
Paul Ryan probably kept Romney from being thrown into an even greater rout, but he couldn’t carry the freight by himself.
It would be easy for us to say, “I told you so.”, and there’s a part of me that is there wanting to do that.
The sad reality, though, is that we will lose more freedom in the next 4 years, that folks are talking about raising taxes before they’ve even fought the spending wars, and that our enemies think we are a joke.
It is time for some kind of near-revolution, but there is no leader, just a bunch of politicians.
2. They tell us that he ran a lousy campaign.
3. They tell us he was the wrong candidate.
All true and I'd add 4. They tell us that the lack of enthusiasm for Romney hobbled his campaign, denying it the ground troops necessary for an effective GOTV operation. That was what I was afraid of when I saw not just the apathy of most regular Republicans toward the candidate but the open hatred for Romney by a substantial minority of the conservative movement. The people (like me, for example) who grudgingly pulled the lever for Mitt didn't have the heart to volunteer, donate money or do anything more than the bare minimum.
The same seemed to be true for the Democratic base, but as mentioned above he started far enough ahead that he could afford the losses. Mitt couldn't.
Cut the crybaby crap, Mike. Romney lost because of vote fraud. The fact that Romney himself was a fraud in terms of conservatism aggravated it.
My mom is 83 and has voted straight Republican every single election all her life -- except for this one -- she left the top of the ticket blank and voted down-ticket Republican. I've voted straight Republican ticket since I first cast a ballot in 1976 -- except for this year, when I voted third party at the top of the ticket and Republican the rest of the way.
Pal, my mom is not a "lazy ass" nor am I. Romney was over the line. I'm sorry Obama won, but I'm glad Romney lost. If you're willing to vote for Romney, what the hell is the point of being a Republican?
So you take your crybaby crap and go where folks are clueless enough to join you.
Couldn’t agree more...the GOP needs to face reality; you can’t rely solely on volunteers for your GOTV effort. In states like Ohio, Obama never left after the 2008 campaign. They’ve had paid staffers in Ohio (and other swing states) for the past four years, identifying potential Democratic voters and perfecting their strategy for getting them to the polls.
By comparison, the GOP ground game is based largely on “contacts;” if you make a call or knock on a door and someone responds, the volunteer gets credit for a contact. It reminds me of a guy who climbed the ladder rapidly at the CIA. He sent lengthy reports to his bosses at Langley on a recurring basis, detailing all of the field contacts he had made. Never mind that nothing ever came of the contacts. He created a metric for measuring his performance, and he was far ahead of other field operatives in the “contact” game.
The GOP needs a professional ground game in all of the battleground states, and the time to put them in place is now, not 2016. And it should be easy enough in places like Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina, where the GOP controls state government. No excuse for not knowing where every likely GOP voter is for 2013, 2014 and 2016, and having a detailed plan for getting them to the polls.
And for God’s sake, tell everyone in the party to stop counting “contacts.” They mean nothing, except a phone call went through, or someone came to the door.
