Could Mitt Romney save Hostess?
Like him or not, if you have ever shopped at a Staples and/or Sports Authority, you have Mitt Romney and his Bain Capital buddies to thank. And now that Mr. Romney is not running well anything, maybe he can shift his energy towards an endeavor greater than saving the nation from the looming fiscal cliff and rescue my favorite cakes from extinction.
Sure President Obama may have saved the auto-industry, but bring back Ho Hos, Sno-Balls and Wonder Bread and Virginia, Minnesota & Michigan become easy wins in the next presidential election. Wanna big wins in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in 2016? Save Hostess and butter statues of Mr. Romney would be erected from across the American Plains.
Lets face it. State Fairs without Deep Fried Twinkies are simply un-American!
We need someone dedicated to making America American again and give us back us back our preservative-filled, plastic-wrapped cupcakes. We need Mitt Romney!
Mr. Romney, were sorry for not electing you as President. But maybe the old adage is true: When a door closes, God opens a window. Heres your chance to serve the greater good.
Mr. Romney, please continue your public service. More than ever, our nation needs you.
Mitt Romney, please save Hostess!

Mitt who?
Did somebody say "Save a Hostess???"
Mitt has caused enough damage to America with his losing the election. I would rather he go on an extended vacation to one of the many islands he owns. Maybe he can start counting his dollars one by one. That should keep him busy for years to come. We seriously need to take Mitt Romney our of our vocabulary and completely stop talking about him on Free Republic. Since when do we waste our time talking about a liberal????
Democrat run private equity helped wreck it and Republican run private equity may bring it back.
My guess is only the brand names will survive, being produced in facilities that already make similar products.
Bill is a big stakeholder in BIMBO Bakeries I bet
HA! No doubt.
Call Herman Cain!
He knows business inside and out!
save the seals, eat the twinkies.
He owns 2 houses. No islands.
I think Government Motors needs to buy this company, and give all of their union workers free Twinkies as part of a payment plan. Looks good in Kookville, it’s probably worth a try. Someone needs to suggest this to the WH
The monkeys at the local zoo could have saved Hostess, if the first step had been to dismiss the union.
MEOW!
The union was bent on suicide. Let it lie in peace until resurrected in the Kingdom of Right-To-Work.
I figure the last time I ate one of those things was about the time the Carpenters ruled the pop charts, "Patton" and "MASH" ruled at the box office, Iran was our ally, Taipei held China's seat in the UN, and SALT I was being negotiated.
Reportedly the Mexican name (pronounced beam-boh) was coined with no reference to the English slang.
This piece of property is remarkably like the steel company Bain Capital wasted $70 million on ~ sure, it had a lot of stuff, and had $450,000,000 invested in it recently by the last owners BUT Bain wasn't a steel company, and that mill wasn't really a steel mill anymore ~ did one product ~ for a process no longer occurring ~
They may have made some money on it but they had $70 million tied up in it for quite some time.
Dick Gephart and his associates dumped $125 million in Hostess and it still went bust AGAIN.
Seriously, just buy the recipes. Plenty of other people cam make twinkies.
It continued to fail, and finally it all fell apart.
Just get the recipes!
When I was in Mexico in 1978, Bimbo bread--white bread, akin to Wonder Bread--was everywhere. It was often spread with refried pinto beans as a snack or side dish.
That's when I got the idea that Bain might have canned him earlier ~ some time after buying that derelict steel mill.
or the same twinkie at a lower price.
When the off brand is a buck and the real thing is 3.. well.. give me the dollar one. The taste is close enough for the price difference.
Matsushita Electric (owner of the Panasonic brand) was losing out on its export marked to up and coming better quality brands like Sony and JVC. Secondary markets like Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan weren't likely to be customers either.
What to do? They could lay off their workforce or pay them partially in electronics. They discussed it with them and, of course, the workers opted for partial payment in electronics rather than play the lay-off lottery.
Next thing you know, Matsushita workers were bartering radios to their green grocer, televisions to their landlord and the like. Rather than lose business, most of them struck some sort of deal.
Not only were painful lay-offs avoided, but Matsushita grabbed market share and picked up sales in things like accessories and upgrades.
The recession ended with a whimper and Japan launched into one of its greatest periods of economic growth. All because the workers in one large company chose flexibility over unionism.
What would Mitt do differently than the current VC owners of Hostess, i.e. saddle them with crushing debt, extract millions in fees, and squeeze the employees?
The union was the least of Hostess’ worries but a convenient scapegoat nonetheless.
Why did you think that?
La Jolla is nice, expensive, conservative territory.
I think comparing Matsushita and Hostess is like comparing apples and oranges. I mean their circumstances could be similar but I can’t tell from the information you provided.
Mitt should help raise $$$ for Hostess Brands - or at least some of it.
Oh goody...another one your posts hating on Romney. You just can’t get enough, can you? LOL!

The example applies even better to Hostess. They make a consumable snack which almost everybody eats. If you already have a nice radio, you are less likely to barter away groceries for a radio than for snacks with a shelf life at least as long as the radio.
Do we know what state he is a resident in?
As much as Romney hates conservatives and gun owners, it isn’t surprising that they don’t like him and his liberalism.
I have never thought of La Jolla as “conservative”, republican by about half maybe, but not conservative, it is a weird part of town, and was always my least favorite area, and customers.
“According to voter data, La Jolla,CA votes 49.85% Republican.” http://www.homefacts.com/politics/California/San-Diego-County/La-Jolla.html
Then they should have run for president. But no, it’s just more fun to write posts on an Internet website running down the guy who stepped into the arena. Yes, that’s the ticket.
As far as we know Mitt doesn’t own any islands, but he is in the process of becoming the God of his own, earth-like planet, that counts for something.
The greater San Diego county area has a lot of military.
Romney used to attack Reagan, and conservatives and conservatism, before he ran as the most liberal GOP candidate in history, did that bother you?
Of course not...but criticism is cheap. Want to affect the country? Do more than hate on the guy who stepped to the plate. The constant belittling posts attacking Romney is silly.
For California as a whole it is good, but you weren’t talking about that, you were meaning purely La Jolla, the creepiest section of San Diego and while half republican, are not conservative.
By the way, I don’t think that your current count of Romney homes is accurate, politifact puts it at 4.
If you want to help the country, then help stop the man who has done so much to hurt it by dominating the GOP primary process for 7 years, in his lifelong war against conservatism.
Romney is a disaster, a Reagan hating, tea party hating, liberal who will now try to dominate and damage the GOP even after his embarrassing loss to Carter, Part II.
Help us to help usher this Massachusetts creep, off of the GOP stage, and out of republican politics.
Romney 47% party host may rescue thousands of union jobs at Hostess
http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/11/romney-47-party-host-may-rescue-thousands-of-union-jobs-at-hostess/
Yeah, poor mittens didn't want the job but reluctantly recruited the national party insiders to put their thumbs on the scales from caucus to convention to shove his nomination down the throats of the rank and file.
Bravely he gave the GOP the clear choice between the liberal, anti-gun architect of the current health care law...or obama.
Poor mittens the martyr. Didn't those rubes realize that it was HIS TURN!
Romney LOST to a damn communist...he should never show his face in public again...
Like all of California these days, you do not need to invest in anything new to get something great at a bargain price. Secondly, with the Democrats in power you really have to ask yourself why you'd throw your money away!
Once Hostess sheds the unions, it would take an idiot to lose money selling twinkies and bread.
I won't help usher Romney off the stage, and I won't attack a good and decent man, who deserves more, in my opinion, than the slander of the small.
You called him mittens. That is so clever. LOL!
