Honeywell: Cuts to U.S. military spending 'need to occur'

While most large U.S. defense contractors have warned a $500 billion cut in military spending over the next 10 years could be disastrous, Honeywell International today bucked the trend and announced it would welcome the reductions.

During a meeting with investors Mike Madsen, president of Honeywell's defense and space unit said that the company recognizes that a majority of the budget cuts that make up the so-called "fiscal cliff" will happen.

"We're not really fighting these—they need to occur," he said.

Army, that figures. The military ain’t a jobs program. It’s for killing people and breaking stuff. We can’t afford to be for it to be International Armed and Dangerous Pizza Guy any more.

...only four years, figrues. Keep posting deep thinker. It takes time to train a fighting force; dismissing half of them while maintaining Pell Grants and EBT payments isn’t good national policy.

You don’t get it. We don’t need a “fighting force” unless it’s New Jersey being invaded. All we need is a Navy to keep the shipping lanes open, some Marines to take and hold ports for a brief period, and an Air Force to launch nukes.

We could do that with a military 1/3 the size we have now.

Let the Euroweenies defend Europe. Let Japan defend Japan. Let Korea defend Korea. I’m sick and tired of watching you guys bleed and die for a bunch of 5th century savages who should have been reduced to radioactive dust a decade ago.
