“It was just one of many such interceptions by what is now the world’s only battle-tested missile defense system.”

So are the Patriot Missiles gone? Wouldn’t you call them battle-tested? Am I that old?

Israel is relying on its own resources, particularly since Obama is throwing them under the Iranian bus. Patriots are battle-tested, but Iron Dome is the only one battle-tested in defense of a nation’s own territory.

See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fajr-5

This weapon seems more like long range (75-mile max) artillery than it is like a medium-range (2-500 mile) missile. That is, the gizmo stays within the atmosphere the whole time. As a result, the anti-missile tracking software is different than the old Patriot.

When the wildly imprecise SCUDS were re-entering the atmosphere they broke up into hundreds of pieces ... so the Patriots were more of a psychological boost to the Israeli civvie population, just as the inaccurate SCUDS were ... unless one happened to kill you, or someone you knew ... a psychological terror weapon.

In a way, these FAJR 5s are more militarily effective than SCUDS and Iron Dome therefore has to be more militarily effective against them.
