(CBS News) WASHINGTON - CBS News has learned that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) cut specific references to "al Qaeda" and "terrorism" from the unclassified talking points given to Ambassador Susan Rice on the Benghazi consulate attack - with the agreement of the CIA and FBI. The White House or State Department did not make those changes.
There has been considerable discussion about who made the changes to the talking points that Rice stuck to in her television appearances on Sept. 16 (video), five days after the attack that killed American Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, and three other U.S. nationals.
Republicans have accused her of making misleading statements by referring to the assault as a "spontaneous" demonstration by extremists. Some have suggested she used the terminology she did for political reasons.

Leaders from the State Department, FBI, CIA, including former CIA Director David Petraeus, testified on Thursday and Friday. Regarding the allegations that the original CIA talking points had been changed so that terrorist involvement was not included, Sen. Chambliss said, “Everybody there was asked do you know who made these changes; and nobody knew. The only entity that reviewed the talking points that was not there was the White House.”
Translation: designated Fall Guy, goes under the bus for The Messiah, who wouldn't call ANYONE a Terrorist, unless they are NOT Muslim, AND/OR, they are White.
My BS meter just exploded.
Do they really expect us to believe this BS. Well— probably the Republicans in the Congress might, or even if they don’t they will accept it so they don’t have to do anything about it.

Sen. Lieberman added, “In my opinion it was irresponsible to have our State Department personnel there with only three security guards.” He went on to say that, “Either we should’ve given them the protection they deserved, or we should’ve closed that mission in Benghazi as the British government had done a short while before.”
Such sloppy work. The totalitarians of the 1930s were much better at disinformation, the Big Lie and inspirational statism. Moderns are just crude and clumsy and ineffectual. I blame drugs and television.

I don’t get the obsession with Rice. They sent Rice because she was willing to catch the spear, and they knew they could kick up the usual dust of sexism, racism. So when does Clapper resign? As usual, no roads lead to Obama. Isn’t it about time Republicans wrapped this up? They aren’t going to impeach Obama anyway. Maybe it’s worth the exercise to illustrate to the rest of us that still aren’t blind of what we already suspect, Obama is a traitor.

Absolutely. Last Thursday Clapper testified in front of Congress that he didn’t know who redacted the CIA talking points. Then all fingers point towards the White House. And voila...

Prior to the Office of the DNI (Director of National Intelligence), the Director of the CIA was dual hatted with the title DCI - Director of Central Intelligence. In the restructuring of the intel community and based in part of the findings of the 9/11 commission, it was felt that coordination and information flow between agencies would be better served with a new bureaucracy, hence the creation of the DNI.
The United States Intelligence Community (IC) is a cooperative federation of 16 separate United States government agencies that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities considered necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and national security of the United States. Member organizations of the IC include intelligence agencies, military intelligence, and civilian intelligence and analysis offices within federal executive departments. The IC is led by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who reports to the President of the United States.
Bottom line is Obama didn’t send help.

And this after the British Ambassador was attacked as well as the Red Cross, both deciding to exit Benghazi. And remember that the State Dept withdrew a 16 member security detail in August from Libya as well.

The amazing thing to me is that the media still considers it a GOOD THING that the White House had no clue what the government was doing.
It’s as if the media has forgotten that the executive branch is run by the White House, and everything that is done by a cabinet department is the responsibility of the White House.
So, if you were going to believe what is clearly lies, you should at least ask how every agency of our government was allowed to run rogue operations without the authority, consent, or knowledge of the President.
Apparently, the media thinks we could get rid of the president altogether, and everything would still work just fine.
I guess this is the end result of using affirmative action to pick our President. There’s somebody doing the real job, and everybody appears to know it, and to expect it.

That's a great question and I looked it up trying to figure out who Petraeus reported to as Director of the CIA.

The CIA is an independent agency that isn't a cabinet level position. It is "independent", but effectively reports to the DNI, which is a committee. Make sense yet? It didn't to me either because the CIA just dangles somewhere in the executive branch and doesn't report to either the president as a member of his cabinet, or another agency head.
If you check out the link, after your head explodes and you get it reassembled, you'll have conclusive proof that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that our government can function in a rational, effective manner to uphold and protect out constitution.

That’s a great question and I looked it up trying to figure out who Petraeus reported to as Director of the CIA.
Petraeus reported to James Clapper...he handed him his resignation.
A simple change of names and descriptions of departments and this thing reads ^exactly like^ (let me repeat: EXACTLY LIKE] Chicago’s contract truck scandal.

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is the United States government official – subject to the authority, direction, and control of the President – required by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 to:
Serve as principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council about intelligence matters related to national security; Serve as head of the sixteen-member Intelligence Community; and Direct and oversee the National Intelligence Program."
So this office is directly under the President and is under the control of the President. So guess where the buck should stop.
That being said, I think that conservatives are being diverted from the real issue: Why was a rescue attempt not made during the course of 7 hours?

“The actual truth is, the picture isn’t that clear, but we can piece it together, and that’s not satisfying to people who are used to saying, ‘You can attach this attack to that group,’” said Miller.”
They don’t want to say terrorists did it without specifying their actual affiliation? In other words they’ll bend over backwards to not say terrorists in some generic fashion because people will associate that word with Muslims.Better to specify and essentially carve the terrorist out from the general Muslim population.
