House explosion that killed 2 in Indianapolis being investigated as a homicide

The huge explosion that flattened homes and killed two people on Nov. 10 in Indianapolis is now being investigated as a homicide case, authorities said at a press conference Monday night.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry appealed to the public for information about a white van that was seen in the area, NBC affiliate WTHR reported. He said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the case.

"While the fire investigation has been progressing, there has been a parallel investigation, not solely focusing on the cause of the explosion but focusing on individuals who may have been responsible once accidental causes were eliminated," Curry said. "That investigation has consisted of numerous interviews with various individuals as well as execution of a number of search."

The interviews and search warrants are why the investigation is considered an active criminal homicide investigation, Curry said...

I wonder if that’s the same white van from the DC sniper case? Where’s Chief Moose?

It's highly probable that the developer sheered off the sealing cap on an old gas well in that neighborhood ~ and nobody noticed it because, as it turns out, natural gas is odorless. Percaptin is added to it to give it an odor, but it's not added to that stuff down in the ground.

Eventually the gas achieved sufficient pressure to move out under the homes into their basements, then the whole thing would combust when somebody's furnace turned out!

Old timers know where the wells are all along Old 31, and even over at Trevlac ~ used to be a bunch of them no more than 5 miles from this site.

There are maps they could reference!

Very strange. The people who lived in the house that blew up had left town, sent their daughter to stay with friends, and even sent their cats into boarding. But now they claim to know nothing about how this could have happened.

The couple killed next door appear to have been perfectly normal human beings and I don’t think they were the target. So who was “Monserrate Shirley” (sounds Haitian to me) and why would she have been the target?

That house was blasted to a bare foundation. If there was gas to the house, i’d like to know how they ruled out an accident. If it was all electric, ok, but i think i read that it had gas appliances.

So is this a REAL homicide investigation? It sounds like it might be an attempt to hang a cheesy homicide charge on the guy who had just recently worked on the furnace. Politicans are incapable of just saying “tragic accident” if 80 houses are damaged/destroyed.
Someone must always be arrested so it looks like you are “doing something”. This just has that feel.

To All,

May I add that I told my family that is was not a residential gas leak explosion which all thought it was. As time goes on, what was it? The neighbors see homeland security et all and now it is a white van?

There was one terrorist who set off a bomb years ago in Indianapolis. Now he’s a so-called philathropist who files junk lawsuits and makes “swat” calls on people who disgree with him. Of course, one of Obama’s friends.

been reading up on this. Boyfriend is a piece of work. Felonies, etc.

There is a poster here whose son works with Shirley.
She posted on another thread.

A guy in the furnace business said he thought it was intentional. You do something in the basement. Cant remember exactly what he said. Like Saw off the union or something like that.

Take off and wait for the furnace to kick on.

problem was too much gas filled up in the basement of the house because it was warm outside..thus creating a quake that showed up on an earthquake meter 30 miles away when the furnace finally kicked on.

Thus what was suppose to be a house fire turned into a homicide and millions of dollars worth of damage.

That’s what I was thinking. In my neighborhood there’s been several house fires...all of them foreclosures (or about to be foreclosed).

Her photo is all over google. Looks like an regular middle-aged, average woman next door, not Haitian. And as far as sending a kid away and boarding the cat, she and her guy were out of town at a casino somewhere.
Lots of people let the kid stay with a friend and board the cat when they are going out of town for a weekend.

This just sounds like they are trying to find an official person to charge with homicide. It HAS to be a homicide, because that nice teacher and her husband died, and a neighborhood blew up. It couldn’t possibly just be an accident involving a house filled with gas, which found an ignition source.

Commenter from Indy:
I live within a mile of the blast site and I can tell you it was a very violent explosion. I’ve spoken with people who live even closer than I, and they claim FBI helicopters were in the air and there before the firefighters even got there. Now the fire station is about 1100 ft from the blast site, how did the copters (there is a station for them in Beech Grove, IN a small community about 15 minutes away) get there before them.. I live about 4 times as far as the fire station and I thought it was an earthquake that knocked a tree on my house. The ground shook and the explsion was at least as loud as nearby thunder. It was very violent, and i’m sure the firefighters knew about it long before any call came in. If this was a surprise blast, the FBI would not have known about it for several minutes. BTW, Beech Grove is an old railway repair sttion, and is one of the gov’t detention sites that where black federal helicopters are parked. It is complete with barbed wire that points IN, and detention type block buildings, a railway with cattle car type train cars, and a prison type watchtower . Only one newscast reported on this that night, the others were already off the air, and that one had been airing college football, which ran late. The initial report was that it happened in Beech Grove?!? That is not very lose to the actual site at all. I wonder if they are checking for military style explosives. (such as Nano-Thermite) Of course the only reports we are getting about any ATF or other federal investigation is from our ULTRA PROGRESSIVE congressman, Andre Carson, like we’ll believe anything he has to say. I’ll keep asking to see if anyone in the area heard/saw anything right before the blast. I was inside reading, so I didn’t hear anything. There are apartments immediately west. I walk my dog over that way often. Generally to the west, the area is heavily populated despite surrounding cornfields around the school where evacuees were taken & facing Sherman and Stop 11.
