WASHINGTON, D.C., November 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) -At least three-quarters and perhaps as much as 90 percent of homosexual voters supported Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election, a high return on the presidents decision to court key Democratic constituencies.
A national poll found that homosexual and transgender voters backed Barack Obama over Mitt Romney by a margin of 76 percent to 22 percent.
LGBT voters made up five percent of the electorate, according to Gary J. Gates of the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, which specializes in homosexual and transgender issues. The survey was conducted in conjunction with Gallup.
That is higher than the highest estimate of the homosexual population, which Gallup has said totals 3.4 percent.
The findings were, perhaps surprisingly, lower than other estimates.
A Community Marketing & Insights (CMI) pre-election poll showed nearly 90 percent of homosexuals planned to vote for Obama.
In this close election, data suggest that the overwhelming LGBT support for President Obama constitutes a key factor in his victory, Gates stated.
A changing electorate of which homosexual voters are a favored component powered Obama to victory.
Democrats have been winning big over Republicans among gay voters, African-Americans, Latinos, Asian-Americans, and Jews. Some of the groups are relatively small, but together they make up about one-third of the electorate, forcing Republicans to capture much of the remaining two-thirds to win elections, the New York Times reported. By comparison, white evangelical voters, who vote overwhelmingly for Republicans, make up about one-fourth of the electorate, and their numbers are not growing as rapidly.
Although evangelicals supported Mitt Romney by double-digits, Roman Catholic voters favored Obama by 15 percent.
However, the Catholic vote split largely down ethnic lines. White Catholics, who made up 18 percent of the electorate, supported Romney over Obama 59-40. Hispanic Catholics, on the other hand, favored President Obama by 54 points.
A recent Barna study showed 60 percent of Hispanics believe marriage is between one man and one woman. They are evenly split on abortion.
But Charisma News reports, 54 percent identify themselves first as Hispanic or Latino before American, Catholic, or Christian.
The electoral loss has some Republicans insisting the party must jettison its pro-life plank and focus on pro-family issues.
Joseph Curl of The Washington Times wrote that the Republican Party needs to run away from its archaic stance on abortion and is on the wrong side of history on redefining marriage. Charles Krauthammer also proposed that the party embrace amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Principled conservatives have said the worst thing the Republican Party can do is forsake its principles.
Erick Erickson of RedState.com has written the one-quarter of Hispanics and the one-tenth of black voters who supported Mitt Romney are strongly social conservative and could not vote for the party of killing kids and gay marriage. So, they voted GOP. You throw out the social conservatives and you throw out those Hispanic and black voters.
Before the election, Bishop E.W. Jackson attempted to lead an exodus of black voters who put the teachings of Scripture above party allegiance out of the Democratic Party. He vows to continue his outreach.
Many believe certain fixtures of the Republican establishment are exploiting the 2012 election results to liberalize the party, long a goal of much of the GOP leadership.
Matthew Schmitz wrote in First Things, As per usual, the inevitable calls to abandon social issues will have more to do with the preferences of individual pundits than a sober reading of the facts
22 percent voted for Romney....it had to be due to his economic background.
He isn’t just the first ‘black’ president...
Romney got licked
Spanish language ads, pushing the Church's solid stance against abortion or homosexual unions might have been effective in targeting this group and swaying them to vote GOP.
The electoral loss has some Republicans insisting the party must jettison its pro-life plank and focus on pro-family issues.
Before saying that, though, were those votes cast in districts where they would have made a difference, either in the Senate races, or in the POTUS race? It makes no sense to alienate voters on the right in swing states while catering to Hispanics leaning left in heavily Blue zones.
If someone is going courting a specific voter group, they better make sure the votes they gain are going to electorally offset the votes they will lose by abandoning core Conservative principles.
There is no more pro-family issue than the lives of its offspring.
Conservative issues tend to clump together, If you're pro-life, you are generally pro-family and anti-homosexual agenda. It is hard to reconcile otherwise, and if you are pro-family, you'd show a strong predilection toward fiscal conservatism as well.
All recent polls are based on a barely 9% response rate FOR NORMAL people. The homosexuals respond to polls at a 100% rate ~ the result is their responses are automatically weighted 11 Times greater than reality!
Unfortunately, those distorted views are used to plan and push for policies which might not otherwise be considered.
Three-quarters of 2% of the population.
OMIGAWD, IT’S A MANDATE!!!
The vast majority of the heathen population of Sodom and Gommorrah would have voted for the Dems as well. Just because the evil tide rises doesn’t mean its time for conservative patriots to hitch a ride on it.
“survey was conducted in conjunction with Gallup” : Are we supposed to believe Gallup, especially when there is no election to verify their results?
But the American people got screwed for decades!
Birds of a feather...
Seems they’ve buried the lead. The curious story is that somehow Romney got 25% of the gay vote.
Attracted to evil as a moth to light.
Just a slight edit for accuracy. :)
It is unfortunate that the American people have become so Stupid! The government has no place in our bedrooms, or in our Doctors office. We were free to make those decision before people got the scewed idear that the government can decide if we can have a gay relationship, what church to go to, whether or not we can have an abortion. They are picking up speed at how fast they are coming to the point of doing all of our thinking for us. Too Late America, You voted, we all have to live with this, Thanks.
And for the same reason so many Blacks voted for him...
Maybe I am just a simpleton, but, what does being gay have to do with our government, what does abortion have to do with our government?? The Functioning of our Government? Anybody?
I’m surprised it’s not 100%
truly, only the civil unions should be govt rules -- marriage is a sacrament
when we inaugurate government medical care and ownership, then abortion is in the realm of government
My brothers gay....he’s also a militant lefty. He was laid off 8 days after the election. I tried my best, but I couldn’t keep from laughing at him. I told him at least he can marry his hope and change.
OMIGAWD, ITS A MANDATE!!!"
LOL - Post of the day! Thanks for the laugh.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving, what a world, what a world, My heart breaks for these Untied States.
Birds of a feather.
And our winner for Least Surprising News Headline of 2012 is...
I figured a fag like Obama would do better among his own kind.
So running a queer-loving candidate like Romney didn’t help at all. Remember that in 4 years and nominate someone like Allen West.
The homos really aren’t the problem. There are far too few of them to be a problem.
The problem lies with the secular humanist leftists who are using the homos to shake a fist in God’s face.
Throughout 2 Kings, you see rulers who cause their society to commit sin and do evil in the eyes of the Lord. This is what the left is doing to our country.
Example, one of many:
“He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as his predecessors had done. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.”
Too bad blow-up, anatomically correct Obama dolls aren’t sold. They would be a great ‘Holiday’ gift for all the various sexes.
I’m surprised the percentage isn’t larger. I woould have expected more like 90%.
Abortion is in the realm of the government because it is killing babies what is wrong with you two asking something so goofy?
aren’t u Catholic cronos
I mean really
If a government has to decide where medical money gets spent, then logical thinking would be to eliminate those who consume money hence euthanasia -- as we see in the UK NHS liverpool care system and abort to reduce people entering into "the system"
Get the government out of making such decisions about life and death -- no Medicare, no obamacare, no Welfare state.
I want the government to outlaw abortion at best or leave it to states at worst
That has been an issue for 4 decades before national health care
Do you support outlawing abortion by laws passed wherever?
Yes or No?
This is why the Democrats embraced gay marraige and why they have politicized homosexuals to the point that they vote against their own financial self-interest. They have become the new N*****s.
your question: Do you support outlawing abortion by laws passed wherever? YES. I want abortion banned utterly -- any form of baby killing is baby killing
BUT, note what I said -- if we hand over the reins of medical health-care to the government, we have to expect that ultimately they will say "abortion, euthanasia good" -- if a bureaucracy has to coldly decide on who gets what medical money, rather than a market system, then we have to expect this
As an analogy, take the case of the recent Anglican move to have women bishops -- they are crying about it, but it was inevitable from the time they had pastoresses.
One step leads to an irrevocable place forward
I was arguing with libs on Huff and said contraception and abortion is wrong and you know what they said "see, its cheaper for the healthcare if less babies are born" -- now, do you get my point? -- if we take that one step (as we did) for govt healthcare, then the slide to abortion on demand is going to happen.
I cannot say I support outlawing abortion and I am conservative Christian. Abortion, in my Opinion is murder. I just think that the roll of our government has taken too much control in the social interests. We have to answer to God for our actions, if people choose abortion, they choose sin. Acceptance is not the answer to our problems, Govement is not the answer, actually, in IMHO, ignorant citizens, spineless government, and the leftist people and government have caused this pathetic mess. The US government needs to protect the constitution and my inalienable rights! Protect this country for which it stands, One Nation Under God! Free people, the right to make stupid decisions and bear arms!
—— Abortion, in my Opinion is murder. I just think that the roll of our government has taken too much control in the social interests. -—
The primary responsibility of government is to defend life.
Should homicide be decriminalized?
Folks wobbly on abortion get zotted here
Read Jims mission statement
Yer too smart for me to follow Cronos
Sometimes i need things in simpler terms
We southern Baptists being literal and all
We aren’t very ambiguous or nuanced over abortion
In fact my home state has the fewest abortion mills of any state
They fluctuate between none and one
I was however intuitive in my surmising of your fellow traveler on this thread and his wobbly stance on banning infanticide
Of course they did - - the Democrat party is the party of faggots, atheists, abortion enthusiasts, union pinky rings, condom-throwers, Boy Scout haters, hand-wringing college professors, Georgetown sluts, Hollywood drunks, America-hating malcontents, the minority "victim" classes, and your garden variety moochers, deadbeats, parasites, and goofballs.
Homosexuals certainly aren't about to vote with normal, taxpaying, traditional American families ("Republicans").
What are you talking about? I am unequivocally saying "Abortion is evil" any and all kinds.
My point is simple -- we take one small step on the slippery slope and soon we end up down
Take "gay rights" -- in 1960 in most countries this was illegal, but by 1989 civil unions were allowed in the Netherlands and soon "gay marriage" is to be allowed in most places - heck, the US will even persecute countries that don't give "gay rights" and soon it will be illegal to NOT allow a gay marriage in your Southern Baptist Church (that's what happened in Denmark in theDanish lutheran Church)
It's the same with abortion, govt sponsored euthanasia etc -- we started this by allowing government to set terms of medical care.
but, CC, abortion is to be banned based on the simple reason that murder is banned
Murder is isin. Being gay, is sin. We were given the laws by God, our creator, The government is constantly trying to reinvent the wheel, put there ugly stinking feet in my face. We as people need to promote morality and ethics, practice it, teach it. Laws don’t make people moral. The lousey government does not make people moral, they are the most immoral bunch. More laws are not going to fix stupid, they only make it worse. I am anti gay marriage, but I don’t feel that my government should be wasting time and tax dollars on it. This country is going to $#%!, partly because we have lost sight of what our government was established for. We have voted into place over the years, power mongers, nannies, that are not concerned with me or you. I am not wobbly on abortion or anything else that is morally or ethically wrong in my own heart.. People will eventually pay for their sins, judgement comes for all us. I want the goverment out of my house.
...you left out Communists. :-)
... and Methodists!
We have and need plenty of government interference in things that need interfering with like killing babies en utero or beating your wife or molesting children.
Simply being against government interference period is nuts.
Why have government then?
no..if you dig deeper you find folks who toss out such canards are actually not much on culture war and don't think abortion is much of an issue anyhow
at least that is what I've seen usually here in my 12 years
you are either for abortion or not...flowering it all up with libertarian doublespeak doesn;t change it
and speaking of liberty, you would have been hard pressed to find a founder who was in favor of it..even with their primitive means of accomplishing it
therefore opposition to abortion is hardly indicative of the post Lincoln Leviathan that libertarians or government minimalists rail about
