The Santa Monica Nativity Scene Case: Why We Lost
AT ^ | 11/21/2012 | By William J. Becker, Jr

Posted on 11/21/2012 4:16:25 AM PST by Altura Ct.

...Conservatives are shell-shocked. The event in Palm Beach drew no consensus for the future of conservatism. After four years of economic, political and moral depredations, it becomes increasingly difficult to predict when the pendulum will swing back or if it will at all. We wander along a desolate path of stupefaction, adrift in our bumping and stammering hallucinations. Can a moribund culture ever be revived to resemble the best times in America's past?

When Tuesday (11/19/2012), US District Court Judge Audrey B Collins delivered a 28-page ruling denying my client the right to continue a 59-year-old tradition of exhibiting Nativity scenes along Ocean Boulevard in the City of Santa Monica this Christmas season, another dagger plunged into the heart of America's twilight customs and traditions. The sneered-at "war on Christmas" was effectively lost for good.

...Christianity, white men, heterosexuality, meritocracy, Christmas. These are the relics of a distant culture. Let's not kid ourselves. They have been tipping into the abyss for some time. Only now -- plunging as we are with increasing velocity -- do the tremors of our nation's mortality begin to beat their throbbing rhythms insistently. Santa Monica's Palisades Park is just the latest park to be "occupied" by a leftist regime's ideological larceny. As the radical Sixties began to forge the nihilistic alloys of sexual promiscuity, anti-authoritarianism and identity politics, Peoples Park in Berkeley, California, became the epicenter of the big political power grab that only now is reaching the zenith of its destiny. People's Park gave alienated young people license to "act creatively and together to build an environment uniquely theirs where they could celebrate the rituals of a new culture."[1] Hark their heralding message: "Although they lost the park, most felt that it was only a battle in a war that they would win someday."

When I first saw the case had gone to court I knew it was a lost cause.

The majority have no rights in today’s America.

Let me put it crudely but accurately.
If one a-hole objects to prayer or Christianity in a public place the courts will rule for that one a-hole over the objections of the many. Now if the religion is Muslim the Judges are frightened to crapping their pants to rule against them.

In every Christan Church I have ever entered they practice Love—Peace—Charity—Hope. The left needs this charity love peace and hope to survive since they do not work, but yet the Christians are being battered, and the Cult of Death,Islam is being ignored.

Somebody needs to rethink their policies.

They must be taking stupid pills at AmericanThinker this morning. Extrapolating an absurd incident that happened in Zoot-Zoot! Boing! Screw-loose, hippy, 30 IQ Santa Monica onto the entire country is idiotic. Normal life does exist outside of fascist California.

Leftists do not see the 1950s America the way we do.

We see it as fresh from the victories over totalitarianism and genocide; burgeoning prosperity; exponential growth in technology; great strides in medicine; mom and apple pie; baseball games; reading-writing-arithmetic; colleges where you actually acquired information useful in pursuing a meaningful and prosperous career.

The Left sees it as the dark ages. Oppression of minorities; slavery of women in the home; having children you don’t want; the McCarthy witch hunts; the Congressional “un-American Activities Committee”.

The Left never wants to go back there.

Never.

As an example, I bought Tom Brokaw’s “The Greatest Generation” for a leftist family member. It’s a book about the men and women who lived through the 1930s and 1940s, the Great Depression and WWII, and came out of it with the unprecedented prosperity and liberty of the 1950s.

The Leftist family member thought the book was about the radical activists of the 1960s and was disappointed to learn that it was about the previous generation. To her, the Great Depression/WWII generation were evolutionary throwbacks, more akin to the Neanderthals than to post-moderns, like herself.

The War on Religion

by Rep. Ron Paul, MD
by Rep. Ron Paul, MD

As we celebrate another Yuletide season, it’s hard not to notice that Christmas in America simply doesn’t feel the same anymore. Although an overwhelming majority of Americans celebrate Christmas, and those who don’t celebrate it overwhelmingly accept and respect our nation’s Christmas traditions, a certain shared public sentiment slowly has disappeared. The Christmas spirit, marked by a wonderful feeling of goodwill among men, is in danger of being lost in the ongoing war against religion.

Through perverse court decisions and years of cultural indoctrination, the elitist, secular Left has managed to convince many in our nation that religion must be driven from public view. The justification is always that someone, somewhere, might possibly be offended or feel uncomfortable living in the midst of a largely Christian society, so all must yield to the fragile sensibilities of the few. The ultimate goal of the anti-religious elites is to transform America into a completely secular nation, a nation that is legally and culturally biased against Christianity.

This growing bias explains why many of our wonderful Christmas traditions have been lost. Christmas pageants and plays, including Handel’s Messiah, have been banned from schools and community halls. Nativity scenes have been ordered removed from town squares, and even criticized as offensive when placed on private church lawns. Office Christmas parties have become taboo, replaced by colorless seasonal parties to ensure no employees feel threatened by a “hostile environment.” Even wholly non-religious decorations featuring Santa Claus, snowmen, and the like have been called into question as Christmas symbols that might cause discomfort. Earlier this month, firemen near Chicago reluctantly removed Christmas decorations from their firehouse after a complaint by some embittered busybody. Most noticeably, however, the once commonplace refrain of “Merry Christmas” has been replaced by the vague, ubiquitous “Happy Holidays.” But what holiday? Is Christmas some kind of secret, a word that cannot be uttered in public? Why have we allowed the secularists to intimidate us into downplaying our most cherished and meaningful Christian celebration?

In the afterlife when we are separated they will miss us greatly. On the other hand painful memories of them will be faint, distant flickers soon forgotten by us.

“The key to the constitutionality of a publicly-sponsored nativity scene is that it must have a secular symbol of Christmas within the context of the nativity scene. The display of a publicly-sponsored nativity scene standing by itself would be considered unconstitutional.(2) However, if secular symbols of Christmas are displayed within the context of the nativity scene, the Supreme Court would consider it constitutional.”

Let them burn all the churches and Bibles, and break all the crosses. Ban all Nativity scenes. The light of Truth cannot be extinguished.

By all means, keep putting your faith in the courts. After all, we are a nation of laws. It’s not like they’ve ever taken away freedom./s

But the nativity has to include non-religious items to be constitution. Yeah, stick a Santa Claus next to baby Jesus and everything is okay.

Not really a win IMHO.

The United States Supreme Court has upheld government-sponsored nativity scenes when displayed in the context of other symbols of the Christmas holiday, such as Santa Claus, a reindeer, or a Christmas tree. The City of Green Bay displayed all those elements and even included wreaths with ribbon and lit candles.

I wonder how atheists would respond to a display featuring Barack O Clause bringing a bunch of free Obamaphones?

In my city, every government building has a prayer vigil during prayer week. A table is set up in the state, city and county government building and 24 hour prayer vigils are conducted. Copies of the New Testament are distributed.

What if a city had to live with its own desire to eradicate Christmas? What if people pulled inside all of their lights and decorations so nobody driving past would “suffer” or feel insulted. Go dark. What if nobody did their Christmas shopping in such a city, wouldn’t that be in accordance with the spirit of this city’s ruling? Give them what they wish for and give it hard. A town without Christmas, including the economic impact of that end.
