Over at the Washington Times, Jim McElhatton has written a story about the exorbitant prices the federal government pays to memorialize cabinet members and other bureaucrats who do the people's work by commissioning paintings of themselves.

The Environmental Protection Agency spent nearly $40,000 on a portrait of Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, while a painting of Air Force Secretary Michael B. Donley will cost $41,200, according to federal purchasing records. The price tag for a 3-by-4-foot oil portrait of Agriculture Department Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack: $22,500.

All told, the government has paid out at least $180,000 for official portraits since last year.

This is behavior of an Elite class. They believe they are Royalty and everyone else exists to serve them.

If the GOP really wants to make a comeback, this is how you do it.

Turn the class hatred and envy around and aim it on the EEEEEEEVIL 1% that comprise the Government Ruling Class.

Would give a lot of us who at our core don’t believe in this stuff a case of severe indigestion, but it would be quite effective.

its “workers” skew heavily liberal, gay, minority, female and liberal. The Department of Defense and our military would be an exception

Not for long...

“This is behavior of an Elite class. They believe they are Royalty and everyone else exists to serve them.”

As in the ancient world, they have proclaimed themselves demi-gods and are to be worshipped by the people at the altars they construct for themselves.

where did they get authorization for this expense? Did the congress pass a budget to allow it? NO!!! And they have not held anyone accountable for the crap spending by the VA in Orlando, judges in 9th curcuit going to Hawaii, and many other luxuries for the government while the rest of the country - the tax payers are on the tight budget caused by a five year recession.

Want to help America make republicans try to make the size of government smaller by making government effective. A nice photo would have been a start - not a $40,000 painting, not for the EPA, the VP, The secty Defense etc. etc. Make government work !! I do !!

Who do these people think they are, noblemen?

The Founders were affronted by the King’s tea tax, and yet here we are today paying enormous sums for the portraits of self-serving federal “aristocrats”.

It would take more than $40 K to render an attractive image of that subject.
