Happy Thanksgiving: Unions Shut Down Traffic to LAX

Ready to fly out of Los Angeles today to get to your family before Thanksgiving? Not so fast. Los Angeles’ labor unions have decided to protest on Thanksgiving Eve – one of the busiest travel days of the year – to snarl traffic around Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). President Obama’s favorite union, the Service Employees International Union, is spearheading the obnoxious effort; it’s supposed to last from 11 a.m to 4 p.m., virtually the entire day. The LAPD says that travellers should arrive 90 minutes earlier than usual. LAX already advises people to arrive two hours in advance.

This should not be legal.

If you do not want your job, you should be replaced.

In the not so distant past, this type of extortionist action would have had the public, political, and business community in full retreat from their support..

Our cultural well, is so poisoned by the Liberal elite, with the assistance of the MSM, have so distorted reality, that I can hardly recognize my own Country anymore..

We can only hope that their own arrogance will eventually be their undoing.. ugh!

Many Unions have a few Low-lifes, although most are good people who just want to work and be [paid a good wage.

However SEIU is totally made up of low lifes.

Can’t get all worked up...this is L.A. right. 115% of registered voters there voted to reelect the SEIU’s favorite sugar daddy, didn’t they?

The American labor movement is almost totally dominated and controlled by Marxists/Leninist/Socialists/Progressives. They are feeling their oats now that "The One" has been reelected with their help. This is only the beginning of their attempt to take this country into submission and eventually, bankruptcy. What the fools paying the dues don't seem to understand is that they are agitating the loss of their OWN jobs! The leaders are MARXISTS and have regard only for their own acquisition of POWER!

I will be surprised if this gets more than a 5 second blurb from the MSM. Scumbags they are.

Well that is not quite correct.

The college where I teach is represented by the Maine State Employees Association which is part of the SEIU.
My fellow union members and I are not lowlifes!

In fact, this FREEPER is president of the unit!!

Do these fools think that a strike that inconveniences everyone else causes us to have sympathy for their cause? O certainly don’t. My feeling is they don’t deserve jobs. Fire every one of them who went of strike and replace them with people who are grateful for a job. The SEIU is an enemy to America.

Is it just me, or the unions trying to make an already shakey economy collapse into chaos?

I can’t understand why anyone on Free Republic wouldn’t support workers’ rights to strike. I don’t care how the companies deal with them (fire/replace them?), but I’ll be damned if someone tells me that I have to work a certain job. I work because I have a voluntary arrangement with a company to do so; when that is no longer satisfactory for either of us, then the relationship will end.

As for the timing, it is called “strike while the iron is hot”; it certainly removes any sympathy I have for any workers that permanently lost their jobs over the strike, but companies don’t ask workers when it would be convenient for them to join the masses of unemployed - they do it when it is best for the company!
