Atheists cry foul over A Charlie Brown Christmas 12:01 PM 11/21/2012
Caroline May Political Reporter
Charlie Browns Christmas is on the outs at an elementary school in Little Rock, Ark. at least among atheists who are calling foul over a planned student trip to see a stage production of the beloved Peanuts story.
The trouble began when students at Terry Elementary School brought home letters detailing the trip to see A Charlie Brown Christmas at a local church, according to a report from Arkansas KARK. A parent who had a problem with the plays content notified the local atheist group of the field trip.
Were not saying anything bad about Charlie Brown, Anne Orsi, vice president of the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers, told KARK. The problem is that its got religious content and its being performed in a religious venue and that doesnt just blur the line between church and state, it oversteps it entirely.
A Charlie Brown Christmas is about the title characters struggle to overcome the holidays commercialism and embrace the true meaning of Christmas. The holiday classic culminates with the character Linus quoting from the second chapter of Luke.
While students can opt out, the parent whistle blower who preferred to remain unnamed told KARK that she is letting her child go because she does not want her child to be bullied.

Especially the children.
But there’s that free babysitting thing.
LOL yeah they sure do..what pathetic pieces of garbage they are..they are so miserable they want to make everyone else miserable
I would ask what the h&ll is wrong with these people, but I already know the answer.
The increase on the war against Christianity has the same roots as the people who voted for Obama - public educa . . . . . . er, indoctrination. Since the late 60s and early 70s, liberals across the country have made conquering the schools a primary goal. In many states, schools have been converted into a “jobs program” for liberals by reducing class sizes, thereby requiring more “teachers” (leftists) to be hired to staff them.
As liberals and unions have conquered public educa . . . . . . (sorry), um, indoctrination, they have undertaken a curriculum that espouses leftist philosophy while casting aspersions on those of us on the right. For 12 years, these people have had mandated access to our kids to “teach” them whatever they wanted, as long as it didn’t include topics like English, math, science, history, civics or phys ed.
Johnny may not be able to write or read above a second grade level and he may not be able to make change for a dollar without a machine telling him how much he needs to return, but he knows why his best friend, Billy, has two mommies and how to put a condom on a cucumber.
And, Johnny was probably an “honor” student when he “graduated”.
I actually do understand how you feel. I feel the same way when I see my kid’s teachers pushing Altruism/ Collectivism on my kids. If we are going to publicly fund education then the solution to this problems is a full voucher system. Parents who don’t like their kids exposed to religion could choose a school that doesn’t do that and vice versa.
I've found a sock with a snooker ball in it to be more effective.
So she is teaching her child to be a wimp and an atheist? Cool.
*shrug*
My feeling is, if you have a problem with the field trip, don’t sign the permission slip for your kid to go.
Charlie Brown Christmas rocks, btw. I still get a lump in my throat when Linus explains the true meaning of Christmas.
By saying she’s letting her child go because she doesn’t want him to be bullied, she’s trying to give the impression that Christians are a bunch of meanies who push others around and victimize them.
I've had my fill of the libs. I was shocked to see one of our 60+ females in the congregation tell one of the two libs we have to get her mind "right" or face hell forever. She made me smile.
I have to admit, I get a little annoyed at that particular appellation. Not only does in insinuate people of faith aren't capable of rational thought, but it's been my unfortunate experience that many atheists aren't exactly "free minded" themselves. I'm sure there are many folks out there who do believe in live-and-let-live. But it's been my misfortune to mostly encounter folks cut from the Madeline Murray O'Hare and Damon Vix mold. Nasty, condescending "I'm so much more enlightened than you" types who look down their noses at the rest of us.
Freethinkers, as in “people are free to think how they want, as long as they think like me.”
Eesh.
My brothers and I were raised atheist/agnostic. My parents had no problem whatsoever with the Charlie Brown Christmas special every year - non-consumerist Christmas with a little Christian mythos for tradition’s sake - what’s the problem?
I wish the atheists would just go off somewhere and ponder their genitals and let the normal people just live a normal life. Atheists are a bigger pain in the @$$ than their pals, the homosexuals.
The atheists also celebrate April 15. It’s the day they take their sacrifices to their god.
