NAPLES, Fla - Sleeping with a knife under her pillow wasn't enough anymore. Denise Barra needed a gun for protection.
Fearing more stringent gun laws could soon be enacted after the reelection of President Barack Obama, the single mother of two stopped by an East Naples gun shop to get educated and maybe purchase a new weapon for her bedside table.
"This is a right I have in this country," said Barra, 34, a Naples resident. "Why not take advantage of it and be safe and secure in my own home and not rely on calling 911 or the police if God forbid something should happen?"
Government officials confirm that gun sales and background checks have spiked in Florida and nationwide since Obama's reelection on Nov. 6. And local gun shop owners say they've noticed a curious trend more women like Barra are purchasing firearms for protection.
"There's quite a big jump from two weeks before versus two weeks after the election," said Eric Sandberg, owner of Centennial Arms in East Naples. "It's above and beyond snowbirds coming back into town and buying guns. It would have been a lot different if someone else was elected. There's a big fear of gun control."
On Election Day this year, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted 2,227 background checks, up from 1,165 on the same day last year. On Nov. 7, the day after Obama was reelected, more than 3,000 people in Florida submitted requests to purchase firearms a number that's hovered around 2,700 since, the FDLE reported.

Glock 17 Gen 4 was purchased 24 hours after the election.
Many of us sense something very sinister is about to occur.
Don’t forget. Fatass Mikey Moore’s 97 year old MorOn.org mistress is still out there somewhere. She’s gonna want to “burn this M!#@^#!F!#@$%! down when Barry Benghazi has to move out in 2017.
Ended up buying a Colt Python!
That's why I can't go to gun stores anymore.
Every gun you purchase is registered with the fed gov. What the heck makes you think that they will not take them away? They have every bit of info on you that they need.
Know the feeling well. My wife won’t even let me go to Scheels by myself any longer. If I didn’t buy a new gun, i’d trade up one of the older ones.
I’m thinking of another AR-15 in 300 Blackout and purchasing a suppressor for it.
I’d be wealthy if I could get my “just to look” money back. LOL
Saw the old Red Dawn the other night.
1st thing the Cuban Commander(think he was a Cuban) told his guys was to go to the sporting goods store and get the list of all who purchased weapons and go round them up.
Same thing.
Fine sir and where did this boat go down and did you file a claim with the insurance company and if so we need the documentation.
Good taste, and I’m a Smith fan.
I thought instant background checks were done by the NCIS.
With one hundred million gun owners, only one in a hundred has to resist and the government suffers horrible losses and even worse press. Government agents have families to go home to, also.
If your really concerned I would break a window, toss a few drawers etc, call the local boys in blue and file a report provided all are registered to start.
I got a great deal on it on the internet, the guy dropped it off & I paid cash.
First time I used it and never got around to insuring it, and that’s the real tragedy.
Why must you torment me as I deal with this terrible loss of my rowboat & all my firearms?
Spiked in Florida?
The state that went Obama?
Thanks. And I'm a Smith guy, too.
I have a healthy collection of K and J frames. Also just picked up a 19-3 that is an old police gun (just couldn't pass it up). The Python is my first Colt.
If it gets to that point a few PVC Tubes filled with some desicant capped and burried out back some place is a plan.
We need to have a Revolver porn thread sometime. If I post one I’ll ping you to it.
The 19 is a great gun, I’ve had several, but only one now. A 19-3 in 2.5”.
Sounds great!
So sorry to hear that so many freepers have lost all of their guns in terrible accidents! I. too, have lost all my guns in a boating accident over the Mariana Trench. Now I want to start again. What single gun would you advise purchasing during the next 4 (perhaps more) Obama years. Consider that All of us small business owners are driven out of business, We have fallen off the fiscal cliff. Greece and the UN can’t bail us out, Entitlement payments are stopped and gangs of roving liberals(led by feminazis) are looking for handouts?
The `run’ over the next few years will be on burial gun vaults if Bam gets frisky, and I think he will.
I read about a guy in England years ago who decided to destroy his AK47 rather than turn it in, so he rammed it barrel down into the earth then ran some sort of wire contraption to the trigger.
It kept blowing itself out, undamaged. So he finally cut it up with a hacksaw. But that’s the English for you, and look at them now.
Answers itself. High-capacity semi-auto with detachable mags. Pick your caliber.
I’ve heard white rice is a good dessicant. Also, you could, hypothetically, drop in dry ice, let it melt and displace the oxygen in the vault, and then seal it.
If the ATF actually starts looking, it might be fund to bury a couple dozen PVC tubes in the yard - each with a 4" to 2' iron pipe. In that situation, any backup firearms should go someplace safer - some ready to use and others where they will not be found, not even with metal detectors, but also where they will not be lost or forgotten.
All you are doing by buying guns now is getting your house circled in red on the map that the United Nations “peace keeping” mission will use to “buy back” all civilian-owned US firearms.
Look at the bright side of it. If the ATF comes to confiscate firearms, it will create jobs. Nearby, in Sand Mt. Alabama, would be a good place to teach young ATF recruits how to confiscate guns door to door!
Just bury the pipes why waste $ on the pvc.
When i was in the CG in Miami I used to sit on the beach on my days off and watch the old codgers with their metal detectors.
I took a few packs of BB’s with me one day and got there b4 them and sprinkled them all over the place.
What a hoot the BB’s would fall through the strainers they used and it would drive them nuts.
I have thought about a cache location and have come to the conclusion that a cemetery would be a good location. Bury your cache on top of a fresh grave. If the person who died is a patriot, they wouldn’t have minded. If they are a Obama-loving liberal, maybe it will disturb their rest.
I would go with at least three guns, not just one. I like a pump action shotgun for close-in home defense; I’m partial to the Remington 887, which I consider slightly more rugged than their also excellent 870. Ammo - buckshot, almost any brand, tactical loads for all but the last shell loaded, and that’s a magnum as a reminder that you need to reload if you lose count. I like an AR-15 for longer distances and for venison (.22 LR conversion kits are cheap and allow you to practice with the same weapon, barrel, and sights for much less money), and I’m partial to Armalite if money is no object, but in my opinion it’s hard to make a bad choice with an AR. Frangible ammunition “to avoid overpenetration of walls”, not for shoot to kill purposes. Finally, it would be nice to have something lighter than the long guns, and I prefer a 1911 semi-automatic. My choice there is .45 cal, but the best caliber depends on your size, age, and home situation. As for 1911 makers, you get what you pay for for the most part, and budget drives that choice. Again, frangible ammo for self-defense.
Question: any thoughts on optics/lasers/etc for those weapons? I am a bit of a traditionalist and have stuck with iron sights my whole life - and I’m very good with those. I am ready to consider other options.
Sure, why not? Cover for action still applies, of course.
“High-capacity semi-auto with detachable mags. Pick your caliber.”
When I replace the ones I lost my first will be a SA XD .45 acp equipped with 150 + lumen led light/laser combo and at least six 13 round mags...loaded with Federal LE Hydra-Shok; second a Mossberg 12 ga w/24” Slugster and 28” Accu-Choke interchangable barrels; third a scoped 10/22; forth an AK or AR.
“I am a bit of a traditionalist and have stuck with iron sights my whole life”
Iron sights have one big advantage...never need batteries.
One in a holster, one in a scabbard, and one for each hand.
“Ive heard white rice is a good dessicant.”
Years ago my mom put a some white rice in the salt shaker to keep it flowing (before Morton’s ‘when it rains it pours’)...the rice did the job.
>>What the heck makes you think that they will not take them away?<<
??? You’d let’em ???
“Every gun you purchase is registered with the fed gov.”
Gun shows and flea markets...cash and carry...
I have heard that some of these tools have been reported as stolen at some point.
Law Enforcement doesn't even investigate property crimes anymore. The thing may wind up in NCIC as stolen, or it may not.
Ah yes, the old "Arch Stanton" ploy. Probably a good choice in terms off avoiding surprises. I recall another forum where someone did a test cache and went back to the rural location some two years later - and found a materials yard for nearby road construction on the site. His cache was under a mountain of gravel.
“What the heck makes you think that they will not take them away? “
Preeecisely!!

from my cold dead hands... ya gotta go sometime, this is as good a cause as there'll ever be
Cannons. Big ones.
I know. Every time you go you gotta buy something and now I will have more than the gun shop if this keeps up. But, you need to buy from someone is selling his own private guns also so that the feds do not know about that weapon. The ones you get in the shops have fed finger prints all over them.
Both are great places to buy guns from indiviuals, face to face.

A bit of American history holds the answer to your question. An earlier tyrant wanted to take the guns and ammo from colonists. That program was to begin at Lexington and Concord.
The rest is history.
Do consider that the last several regimes have been more repressive than that of King George.
I recommend reading the Declaration of Independence, particularly on America holidays.

For the Feminazi’s, buy a condom cannon. Ask the FlukePerson.
For all others, a rotary cannon and a 20’ container of ammo in the appropriate belts.
Otherwise, consider the 7.62X39 cartridge and an SKS or AK.
