Navy Releases Major Updates to Service Member HIV Policy
OutServe (gay military magazine) ^ | 19 Nov 2012 | Katie Miller

Military policy prohibits HIV-positive service members from being stationed outside the United States. But on Aug. 13 the Pentagon quietly released a revision to the Department of the Navy policy, which now allows HIV-positive Sailors to be stationed at U.S. military installations outside of the country and on select large ship platforms. The policy change, listed under Secretary of the Navy Instruction (SECNAVINST) 5300.30E, is intended to “reflect current knowledge” of HIV and marks the biggest change in military HIV policy since the late 1980s when mass testing for HIV went into effect. Though the update removes logistical barriers to service, it does nothing to dissolve the space for discrimination which falls under commanders’ discretion. As long as the policy allows good Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines to be subjected to the prejudices of their superiors, our mission of equality in the military will be unaccomplished

Still doesn't go far enough for them. See?

OK. We are now officially insane.

From OutServe, a gay military magazine. You know. Kind of like Stars and Stripes, only gay. That's right.

Just what they wanted. Will the gay military have a problem enforcing martial law in the red states? The foundations have been deliberately compromised across the board against the people but fret not your GOP is working across the isle

The military was the last noble institution of our republic.

People with HIV have no business being in our military at all.

In a battle with people bleeding HIV tainted blood and no time to put on protective gloves what protects the rescuer?

Maybe I am HIVphobia, but I try to stay away from people with HIV, and yes I know some of them got it from blood transfusions, but the majority got it from anal sex.

A 'gay' issue?

But but but... I though HIV was an equal opportunity disease and that engaging in wholesome fagotry had nothing to do with increasing the odds of spreading and catching it?

At least the noble homosexual sex practitioner with HIV will get HIV treatments and medications at military installations -I guess as well there are no anticipated problems with battlefield transfusions?

Next we will be seeing all kinds of chronic diseased military members -it is only fair...

I’m sure some otherwise healthy military members will get sick or even due because of such policy. Both direct (infected by HIV positive personnel) and indirect (because of scarce resources diverted to helping HIV positive personnel).

But somehow that’s okay with our policy makers. Meanwhile, we are told that industries will have to spend hundreds of billions of $$ to reduce emissions from on part per billion to one part per ten billion. Why? So some mythical children will be asthma free.

One of the goals of this group is blood transfusions from this group to normal people. Yes. Kill everybody in the name of equality.

At this point the military is just workfare to push the lib agenda; I have no problem with sequestration/military cuts at all. In fact, looking at my personal finances, I realize I simply can’t afford this.

Who cares about killing Muslims halfway around the world when we won’t even deal with them here?

In the 80s industry had to educate workers on dangers of blood borne pathogens. Our gay contingent has eliminated that danger, apparently. /s

WHAT!?

They are not medically discharged?

OK, this is not about anything other than ruining the military. I knew that, but now everyone has to know it.

No, right? The ignorant revel in their ignorance?

Awww...Why can’t we have ALL the HIV positives sent out of the USA and serve overseas?

This is being done because people were not able to make rank due to not being able to go to certain countries and ships. This will allow folks to be able to be competitive in the ranking boards. It is a good thing. Remember many people out there are HIV+ due to spouses or ex-spouses and not due to their own actions.

Seriously? This is about HIV positive service members’ promotions? Hey, sorry if they got unlucky, but this is a deadly disease and it still shortens lifespans significantly, even with treatment. The extra resources these folks require don’t justify keeping them in, IMHO, not to mention the potential risk to others, especially these days when no one is expected to keep their pants on, or so it seems.
