Could you pass a US citizenship test? [Give it a try.]
CS Monitor ^ | Saturday, November 24, 2012

In order to become a US citizen, immigrants must pass the Naturalization Test. American citizenship bestows the right to vote, improves the likelihood of family members living in other countries to come and live in the US, gives eligibility for federal jobs, and can be a way to demonstrate loyalty to the US. Applicants must get 6 answers out of 10 in an oral exam to pass the test. According to US Citizenship and Immigration services, 92 percent of applicants pass this test.

You must get 58 or more of these test questions correct in order to pass.

If I recall correctly, one of the questions asks about rights given by the Declaration of Independence, which, as we know, bestows no rights whatsoever.

I answered them all correctly. It took wayyyy too long.

Hubby and I were at a Mexican restaurant a day or so after Election Day. Hubby had his “I Voted” sticker on the outside of his wallet. The guy at the register commented on it and said he is three months away from being eligible to vote. He said he has 150 questions to study and that he will be given 5 out of that 150 and that he must answer all five correctly. He is a bit scared about that part, but he seems like a bright guy. He speaks English well. I figured he was already a citizen based upon his demeanor. Ironically, that same day, there were three Mexican men discussing how one of them needed to present himself in case someone questioned his presence in the US. Their conversation ended when hubby sat down. LOL

Scored 89 out of 96. Not bad for someone from the Great White North, eh?

93....

However I was kind of ‘stumped’ on what type of economic system we have.

the choices were
none
Communist economics
Capitalist economics
Socialist economics

I picked Capitalism etc but was kind of ‘leery’ about it...

This was current enough to cite Hurricane Sandy so was surprised it wasn’t upgraded to the 57 (or 58) states.

That format was terrible and I kept getting ‘error’ notices and I swear that 2 I had correct either didn’t take or were marked wrong...not sour grapes, just commenting...

You answered 92 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 96%.

Capitalist Economy , actual answer would be scored as incorrect // Rule of Law , actual answer would be scored as incorrect // Q#31 is incorrect ,, should be Democrat and Republican ,, not “Democratic” // Got “selective Service” wrong ,, thought it ended as we have no draft // 1787 not 1790 ,, got another one wrong // Who makes Federal laws ... HAHAHAHAHAHA

I think you are being way too generous...

My 7th grade son just got an 82 out of 96.

He was confused on some of the questions regarding who was in charge. This is a result of the administrations ABUSE of the constitution certainly.

I have NO desire to take a test to ‘prove’ my citizenship . . .

Not a matter of proving citizenship, but of regularly recognizing its privileges and obligations. I would encourage passing a citizenship examination as prerequisite to voting.

sorry...I guess I was being cranky....and I get it when one is around those who refuse to speak the language of the land. And by the by English was indeed declared the official language of the land (because it is what is used for government documents) back in the 1800s

I got one wrong.

It was the question about which power belongs to the states.

I answered raise an army, because I was thinking that the states can have militias with officers from the states, but that the President can assume control in times of war.

Their answer was to provide schooling and education. I didn't realize that that was a "power," but I should have used process of elimination to arrive at that answer.

The questions are designed so that everybody can pass the test. It would require a true idiot to fail this test.
