Gun-related violent crimes drop as gun sales soar in Va.
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 11/23/2012 | MARK BOWES

Posted on 11/24/2012 9:03:07 AM PST by aimhigh

The total number of firearms purchased in Virginia increased 73 percent from 2006 to 2011. When state population increases are factored in, gun purchases per 100,000 Virginians rose 63 percent.

But the total number of gun-related violent crimes fell 24 percent over that period, and when adjusted for population, gun-related offenses dropped more than 27 percent, from 79 crimes per 100,000 in 2006 to 57 crimes in 2011.

This just proves that the United Nations needs to confiscate all privately-held US firearms.

Firearms sales could increase any amount and crime would not go up because it is law-abiding citizens who are buying most of these guns and they don’t commit crimes.

I have noticed an increase in creepy people coming to our front door asking for work and something to drink/eat. Not nice people, but really threatening looking people. Fortunately, my Mossberg pump, Beretta 9mm, Colt 1911, Colt AR 15, Henry 30/30 Repeater, and a few more are always close at hand.

if you can see them, and don't know who they are/look creepy, you should have the Beretta in your hand BEFORE you answer the door...

Creepy-looking people actually knock on your door saying they’ll work for food? How frequently is it happening? That’s crazy and scary. Where approximately do you live?

You’re in Mississippi?

It sounds like things have already gotten crazier than I knew. When did this start? I live in a red region surrounded by a sea of solid blue. Of course, part of the daily landscape is scary-looking people holding up their cardboard “will work for food” signs on street corners and off-ramps. But I’ve yet to hear of any of these wastrels and frauds actually going door-to-door here.

I’m surprised by these reports, but forewarned is forearmed.

Yes, and this has been going on since the Marxist was first elected. We live in the historical area of a small historical city, so it neighbors the ghetto. (Sigh).

It’s taken a lot of sorting out to hire three pretty trustworthy men on a regular basis to do yard work, so the “daily drop-by’s” are given their names to make them go away.

The three are well respected in the hood and tough! It’s a territorial thing. We don’t get the same daily drop-by’s more than once. Huge nuisance.

I’ve read that the “hobo signs” are becoming more common again (last time this stuff was really seen was before WWII). Back then, they’d use cryptic markings to warn of danger, indicate safe routes, etc. Do a little research on the symbols they use and then look around your property to see if you’ve been marked as a “soft touch” for handouts.

Excellent Post

For every 2.3% increase in gun sales crime goes down 1%.

Cheaper than hiring LEO's?

I’m waiting for some bubble brain to say ......well crime is down, we don’t need so many guns......A couple of years ago an empty headed talking head made that remark on TV when crime went down in another state and gun sales were up..

That’s a good idea. Thanks very much. They get nothing from me, but I’ll check, nonetheless! Corner house likely has a lot to with it.

Criminals don’t want to get shot. They’ve admitted it enough times already.

No. It is a more fearful, respectful society. The crooks are still crooks, they are just scared to be the brazen crooks they really want to be.

I’d also be careful that they aren’t trying to assess your situation-when you’re home, when you’re home alone, if you have dogs, how readily you answer the door, who drives what and what that means as to who’s home when, trying to get a look at your lay-out and your possessions. My husband goes out of town a lot on business and that means I’m home alone a lot. We also have a closed-circuit tv showing the entire perimeter of the house and the yard so I can see who’s outside and what they’re doing before I decide to answer. Also, my 5 big dogs make a LOT of noise at the door, and go nuts when the bell rings (and my doorbell plays “Dixie”, LOL, that puts some people off). Most of the time, I don’t even answer the door, because I can see it’s someone I don’t know, and they have no business with me, especially with me home alone. We also keep an extra car parked in front so it always looks like there’s more than one person here.
