Walmart says Black Friday "best ever" despite walk-out threat

Threats to derail the company's plans came from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) which seeks to unionize Walmart's workforce. Walmart has fought such efforts to unionize for years. Last week, the company filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board to stop the UFCW's attempts to encourage employee walk-outs.
"Only 26 protests occurred at stores last night and many of them did not include any Walmart associates," Walmart President and CEO Bill Simon said. "We estimate that less than 50 associates participated in the protest nationwide. In fact, this year, roughly the same number of associates missed their scheduled shift as last year," Simon added.
Simon said the company saw approximately 22 million customers on Thursday and sold more than 250,000 bicycles, 1.3 million dolls, 1.3 million televisions and 1.8 million towels since 8pm on Thanksgiving.

Wal-Mart workers need the money and the job...just like everyone else. Union electricians, welders, machinists, pipefitters, etc have some clout. Union cashiers and shelf-stockers not so much.
Yep—fast becoming a nation of idol worshippers. You watch—it wont be too far in the future when stores will be opening earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving Day. All for whoreing after slightly discounted ‘stuff’.
Patrons supporting brand “Walmart” and thumbing their collective noses at the worthless unions and their thugs! Good on them!
I guess that extra $1.03 trillion dollars Obama spread around in 2011 over 83 different giveaway leech programs translated itself to a few billion spent on big screen TVs, Nintendos, Wiis, Obama Phone upgrades, etc...............
Gee. What a return on investment!
I had to make an unplanned run to Wally on T-Day and was pleased to see they’d moved all the crap out of the aisles and you could actually get thru the place. I asked one guy where the protest was going to be and he just laughed, saying that was just a bunch of union nonsense. Guess he was right.
Epic fail on the part of Commie Van Jones.
I saw some “news” reports on the boob tube saying that Walmart employees were protesting. Obviously, the buffoons in the “media” didn’t actually bother to ask the protesters who they work for. The “media” has become extremely lazy. No wonder normal people don’t believe anything they see in the “media” these days. Like a fool, I went out Thursday night to Walmart. I didn’t see any “disgruntled” Walmart employees. It must have been one young female’s first “black Friday” as an employee. She told me how “exciting” all of this was. LOL! Unions are for losers.
Maybe this information has been posted and I missed it, but has WalMart fired these “associates” who picketed their stores? Or is this action still under consideration?
I saw the pig Bob Beckel on “The Five” trashing Walmart with the same tired leftist talking points and laughed at him. He even used the worn-out leftist phrase “living wage” repeatedly. Don’t Walmart workers make $10-$12/hr with an annual raise? That’s considerably more than minimum wage, which lefties are so proud of.
My wife is a Manager at Wal-Mart and not one of the employees walked out! They need and want their jobs!
A Marriage Tip that I post on the Daily Readings thread was
Buy Nothing Day instead of Black Friday. I think the same goes for Thanksgiving — stay home with your family.
Stay home with your kids and play games, etc. — showing them that family life is more important than shopping.
That is great. I was surprised of the attitude displayed by the employees at our Walmart. I would have lost it after about 10 minutes. They all kept their cool. I don’t usually do “black” Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays. I can’t take the crowds. I do know one thing, I spent most of my time just watching the people. I don’t know what that Walmart was going to sell on “black” Friday. The shoppers cleaned our store out.
I really do not like going to Wal-Mart! But if they have what I need I do shop there, because we do get a 10% discount and at this time of year Wal-Mart also gives us a 10% discount on food items. I usually just call my wife and she will pick up what we need and deliver it when she gets home. Kind of convenient.
