BOULDER, Colo. -
Colorado's new segregated "gun dorms" for students with valid concealed-carry permits have attracted zero students.
The Daily Camera newspaper reports that since the University of Colorado's Boulder and Colorado Springs campuses began segregating dorms for students with valid concealed-carry permits this year, not a single student has asked to live where guns are allowed.
On Aug. 16, CU announced it would establish residential areas for students over age 21 with a permit to hold a concealed handgun. In all other dormitories, guns are banned.

Not a brilliant thing to advertise, a dorm full of unarmed students (tho that’s pretty much that status in dorms across the country),

What? Are all the other dorms co-ed?
To: Daffynition
Probably several factors involved. These are the older students so a higher percentage probably have apartments off campus. CU probably picked the worst dorms and made them the most difficult to get into.

To: Daffynition
I’m certainly not going to advertise to anyone who may wish to know that I have a CCW, a firearm and where that firearm is.
Seems like an incredibly silly idea, also it makes it seem like the leprocy dorms or something...

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Besides the frat boys, students don’t really like living in the dorms (at least I didn’t) and most move into on-or-off campus apartments in their second year and beyond. Plus, like someone else said, the school probably limited the space to the worst dorm rooms on campus.

Who lives in a dorm at age 21? I wouldn’t even live in base housing by the time I was 21.

I would have thought the 0 students would be afraid of guns and some of those idiots who actually believe that 0 really “has their back”.

What a crock, very few kids 21 years old and over live in the dorms anyway. They all move off campus by sophomore year.

Political stunt with the results engineered in advance. Exactly. CU Boulder? Really? First ask if any - ANY students that go there even have concealed carry permits. For those that don't know, the entire Boulder area is about as liberal as they come this side of the Rockies. Add on top of that an even more liberal typical college environment... That is not the kind of area/school that attracts students who are likely firearms enthusiasts, or take responsibility for their own selves, own defense. I'll bet you good money there aren't 50 concealed carry permit holders in the entire city of Boulder.

Well liberals can stop belly aching about the freedom to be armed on campuses then.
Students are permitted the freedom to be armed and have chosen not to be armed right now. So, as usual, liberals were screeching hysterically about nothing.
Idiots!

Most schools have different (worse)financial aid packages for those who live off-campus. I had a full-tuition scholarship for my senior year that would have been forfeited had I lived off-campus. Also, some schools have VERY strict rules requiring froshes to live in dorms, regardless of age, unless married. When some Orthodox Jews fought the rule, they lost, and got married rather than live in the dorms.

Guess what?
A human has to be 21 years old in order to own or posess a handgun.
How many university students still living in a dorm are that old?
This story is crap, designed to make people believe that "enlightened" college students don't want and don't want to be around handguns.

CU was never gun friendly, all the gun owners had to find living places off campus, why would they drop where they’re living now to go back? CU drove them away, not a surprise now they won’t live in a CU dorm.

The article is loaded with bias, of course, but the premise of providing gun-carrying dorms is questionable.

I am not surprised. Very few permit holders are young enough to be in college and live in the dorm. Second, those who are old enough to have a permit would probably not live on campus.

What would a student in the dorm do with their personal weapon? Should the school expect the student to bring a gun safe for when the student goes to the shower or leaves the room without the gun?

Those details would have to be ironed out when they get participants, I think.

If you are 21 to start the school year you are likely a Senior. Outside of RA’s, I knew very few Seniors who lived in the dorms.
To: ConservativeTeen
Of course, the school knew that....so it fits their agenda of being able to say” *Oh well, we offered it...and no one took advantage of it.*
