Sen. Dick Durbin: Medicare, Medicaid Fair Game in Talks to Avoid Fiscal Cliff
ABC ^ | 11/25/2012 | By George Stephanopoulos

Posted on 11/25/2012 1:06:41 PM PST by tobyhill

Sen. Dick Durbin said today that his Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate should be willing to address entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid in deficit reduction negotiations.

“From my side of the table, bring entitlement reform into the conversation,” Durbin said on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “Social Security — set aside … doesn’t add to the deficit. But when it comes to Medicare and Medicaid, protect the integrity of the program, but give it solvency for more and more years.”

But Durbin ruled out raising the age of Medicare eligibility as a potential reform.

“We’ve got to make sure that there is seamless coverage of affordable health insurance for every American,” Durbin said. “My concern about raising that Medicare retirement age is there will be gaps in coverage or coverage that’s way too expensive for seniors to purchase.”

“This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “Social Security — set aside … doesn’t add to the deficit. ....”

Sounds like a reasonable statement right? Wrong! Reason why SS set aside doesn't add to the deficit is because they've already borrowed the money

Don’t be surprised if those programs and Obamacare will be axed in favor of a single pay national health care system.

As part of a “grand bargain”

How do they get away with saying something so fundamentally wrong?

More than anything else, the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”, or “Obamacare”, should be on the table.

Inasmuch as much of the funding for this monstrosity was simply EXPROPRIATED from Medicare and Medicaid, if “Obamacare” is properly eviserated, most of those funds should be back where they properly belong. THEN, we can talk about how to redirect the funds that are available to Medicare and Medicaid.

The fact is, the same dollar cannot be spent twice, which is the little piece of legerdemain that was played on the public and the unsuspecting members of Congress, who never read the bill. The arithmetic does not add up or reconcile in normal bookkeeping practice.

If the dollars are to be used to fund Medicare, then by definition, they are not available to be spent on the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”. The dollars are one place or the other, they cannot occupy two accounts payable simultaneously.

So which one are you going to give up, Dick Durbin? Or didn’t you read the bill before you voted on it either?

It's the same game the Rats always play, “put it on the table” but never cut anything. The GOP should tell the Rats that the only way they'll even begin to negotiate is to eliminate the Individual Mandate in Obamacare as a down payment.

Dick Turban and his asswipe party ALREADY HAVE DESTROYED those programs via Obamacare. They replaced them with a worse program.
