What's is your bug out bag?
11-25-12

Posted on 11/25/2012 3:37:35 PM PST by Indy Pendance

What's in your bug out bag? My eldest calls them Good bags, Get out of Dodge. My second daughter (see home page) calls it her apocalypse crate, a rubber maid container filled with all the stuff she'll need, and has it in her car. It has all her old army stuff that couldn't be returned. For example, gas masks, mre's etc.

Ours has the normal stuff, blankets, food, flashlights, water, clothes, fire, ammo, etc. It might be a good thread to have input, suggestions, what's good, what's frivolous.

We are bugging IN. We bought this property for that very reason.

“I used to work in the interior of Mexico a lot. There is a lot of truth in your statement. Mexico isn’t just the border.”

I know;) Who needs to bring anything, just money. Course there is the problem of the cartels...

And the government rules about not being a citizen, But, will it be any worse than here? San Miguel is home to the expats. And beautiful.....those purple flowering trees are awesome.

As for your brother’s farm, map out an alternative route, just in case. County roads, off the beaten path, avoid the interstate, etc.

Yes it is.

I plan to stay put BUT....something could happen while I am away and I would need the stuff in my BOB to get home.

Comfortable walking shoes, socks, water, a couple of energy bars, hat, jacket and such will make the hike home a little easier.

The cartels hang out mostly on our border, the interior, not so much. That’s where the gravy train is, our borders. We do nothing to stop them.

If you have any kind of commute, it is vital you have a bob in your car, especially in the northern climates.

Nice call! Henry’s Survival Rifle, AR-7, is a nice, compact (16 inch long when stored?) .22 cal with 16 rounds of ammo - for those who don’t know. The price is just over $200, and it’s environment-proof. Everyone should have one or two.

Bugging Out or bugging in is a matter of circumstance. In a financial meltdown, one who preps should bug in and guard their supplies with a dedicated group of neighbors. A financial meltdown cannot be run from as it affects everyone. Also gun confiscation seems to demand bugging in. Come and get it, etc. However some situations can only be bug out...a nuclear blast at a city west of you, where a large cloud of radiation approaches in the wind. Occupation of the US homeland by UN forces and martial law seems to call for bugging out to the nearest alternate country, whether Canada or Mexico. No-one can know what they will do until it happens, whatever “it” is. Best to prepare at home, but have the ability to get out fast. Carry on.

I read a book back in the 70’s about a 16 year old kid who sailed the globe.

Check it out. It made an impression on me some 35+ years later.

The Ozarks are full of rocks yet most everyone has a root celler; the rocks thus excavated went into making the footings for house and barn. Of course, most of them were dug by men with picks back when Americans used to do that stuff. ;-)

Here’s a hint for cold weather: an empty coffe can and a fat candle make a great little heater.

I live in a semi desert climate, but still in the city, my vehicle pack includes a .22 pistol, food, water, sleeping bag, the usual, but I also keep a Gustbuster SunBLOK umbrella.

Mine is based on walking uphill for 25 miles to get home, and taking 2 days to do it, and it being over a 100 degrees during the walk, the SunBLOK umbrella is designed for blocking sun, and of course rain also, it has a silvery shield as the canopy, and a black underside, to stop reflection of light.

I also carry paracord and the durable, double sided space survival blankets with a reflective side, to put over the roof of the car for a possible day long freeway jam, those happen occasionally in So. California.

Would love to hear some thoughts about what kind of legal tender will be the most useful. I’m thinking gold or silver, but how to denominate it so that it’s spendable for small items. Then, where to put it, somewhere outside, buried?
