Why is Norquist so important?

The American West, a group led by Tom Trento, held a seminar on the threat to the United States by Islamists, specifically, the Muslim Brotherhood, with a series of sessions led by Tom Trento and John Guandolo, former Marine and FBI Agent of 12 years.

Norquist was pimping the muzzies as strong conservative wannabees in the pages of The American Spectator fourteen or fifteen years ago. This guy is NFG for sure.

Vice-like grip? I guess his grip on the party could be defined as immoral and depraved. But "vise-like grip" makes more sense.
I once saw Norquist on a panel discussing immigration (on CSPAN several years ago), and he got all emotional and started crying when pushing his open borders/pro mass immigration nonsense. I’ve despised him ever since then, and that was before learning of his Islam issues.
One of the sad things about Norquist is that he seems oblivious to the fact that his support for mass immigration and his opposition to tax increases are not compatible with each other. Well, they may be compatible in the fantasy land where Hispanics and other immigrant groups are conservatives and ‘natural Republicans.’ But in reality, these two positions are opposed to each other. Mass immigration will inevitably bring in many more future Democrats than future Republicans, and therefore will inevitably favor the party of big government and the higher taxes needed to fund it.
How many elections does it take to prove this?
He considers rescinding tax breaks for ethanol as a violation of the pledge. How purist do you have to be to oppose any increase in taxes any time if it makes good policy sense and is only an attempt to rectify a bad situation?
He's a weasley lobbyist who is only out for the most money he can get. He was one of the founders of the K Street group that included Abramov, Delay, and Reed. Basically turned Republicans into bigger whores than Democrats.
He sounds very moralistic when he speaks, but his actions belie his amoral egoism.
For the foreseeable future we are living in the age of
-Higher taxes
-More welfare goodies
-Bigger government
Don’t really see any way around it.
