A man who killed two teenagers in his home in Little Falls on Thanksgiving Day told investigators he shot and wounded the two at close range before "finishing" them with shots to the head.

Byron David Smith, 64, was charged Monday, Nov. 26, in Morrison County District Court with two counts of second-degree murder without premeditation in the deaths of Nicholas Brady, 17, and his cousin Haile Kifer, 18.

Smith claims Brady and Kifer broke into his home and he was "fearful" they had weapons, according to the criminal complaint.

There is nothing wrong with what this guy did. For all the SHTF enthusiasts out there you must wrap your minds around this. Perfect training exercise. All the people sitting around decrying the decline of civilization but yet are unwillingly to pull that trigger. Again and again and again.

Whatever.

Have it your way. It’s an even bet two stupid kids thought that nobody was home on that holiday. Looking for alcohol or something i bet. His statement indicates he sat there silently in ambush as he heard the window break.

In any case, unless i hear these two kids have held that community under a reign of abject terror, i doubt he really saved the streets from these hardened criminals.

Or it may have been a drug deal gone bad. Or she might have been desperate for a fix. Or she might have thought her boyfriend did the shooting. Or she might have been so high she didn’t know what was happening.

Read the statement of probable clause with the transcript of the killer’s statement. He says he shot the male as he came down the basement stairs and then finished him off in and placed the body on a tarp and dragged it to his workshop and then sat down in his chair.

A few minutes later, the girl comes down the same steps and he shoots her, yada yada.

He’s lying, straight up. Say these two cousins are larking about or burglarizing and he shoots the first, does the second wait long enough for him to get a tarp and move the first body before also descending the same stairs after hearing gunshots. Or calling out for the cousin who disappeared down the stairs and didn’t come back.

No freaking way. Whatever happened, the shooter’s story is bull scat.

“He may have caught them breaking into his house upstairs and then brought them downstairs and executed them. He’s that crazy”

I think you are close to the truth, We’ll never really know.

Aren't there 2nd & 3rd steps to cleanly defending your castle?

This guy was in the ideal location to follow the rules...

Given what he admits to doing I seriously doubt they broke into his home.

More likely he was out hunting teenagers like that Hmong guy several years back.

We don't need his kind.

He was a security officer for the State Department. Do you think that he would fearfully cower in his basement if he heard glass breaking upstairs???

I think he would have been upstairs in 5 seconds guns drawn and had them at gunpoint. No way his story holds up.

Think I’ll just wait to see how this one develops.

I remember when the “official” story was that George Zimmerman shot Trayvon several times while Trayvon was on the ground begging for his life. This story could change a lot too.

The obvious answer is to use a large enough caliber to only require one round each.

The whole idea of not letting the perp hang around to testify kinda goes to crap when you tell his side of the story, dumb@$$.

Also waited too long to call 911, you want the bodies warm, just not breathing.

I bet they won’t be committing home invasion and other crimes.

I bet they never did. His story sounds like total BS.

That basement became quite a killing place, he was murdering them, and not with clean shots.

“”Wetzel said that while the shootings happened on Thursday, Smith waited until Friday to report the deaths, explaining that “he didn’t want to trouble us on a holiday.”

In the complaint, Smith said he was in his basement when he heard a window breaking upstairs, followed by footsteps that eventually approached the basement stairwell. Smith said he fired when Brady came into view from the waist down.

After the teen fell down the stairs, Smith said he shot him in the face as he lay on the floor.

“I want him dead,” the complaint quoted Smith telling an investigator.

Smith said he dragged Brady’s body into his basement workshop, then sat down on his chair. After a few minutes, Kifer began coming down the stairs and he shot her as soon as her hips appeared, he said.

After shooting her with both the Mini 14 and the .22-caliber revolver, he dragged her next to Brady. With her still gasping for air, he fired a shot under her chin “up into the cranium,” the complaint says.

“Smith described it as `a good clean finishing shot,’” according to the complaint.

The next day he asked a neighbor to recommend a good lawyer, according to the complaint. He later asked his neighbor to call the police.””

Dunno, depends if he heard them break in. IMO it was probably a drug deal gone bad. It took him 24 hours to get the drugs out of his house.

Why do we think the only people allowed to execute anyone is the government? When someone is a predator and enters someone else’s home to commit an act such as theft they deserve to be executed on the spot.

“The man is lying. The investigators will eventually release the whole story.”

So, what’s your relation to this story such that you have insider information to be able to say such a thing?

I’m not going to shed any tears for the victims.

That’s assuming the nut is telling the truth about the teens breaking in his house and him hanging out with the bodies for a few days in the name of Thanksgiving. For all you know, he invited them over to knock them off. He’s abnormal.

It should suprise no one that bloody murderers will use gun law protections to cover for murder. They will. Their crimes do not make the laws protecting self defense, wrong. But they need to be nabbed.
