Jeb Bush hammers teachers unions at education summit

In the fight to reform American schools, former Florida Gov. and outspoken education advocate Jeb Bush on Tuesday took direct aim at labor groups and joined a growing chorus who believe real change must start by loosening the grip of teachers unions.

“We need to have a teacher evaluation system that is based on teachers being professionals, not part of some collective trade union bargaining process,” said Mr. Bush, chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education Reform, which kicked off its national summit in D.C. on Tuesday.

“We have a system to reward teachers that’s based on an industrialized, unionized model that is completely inappropriate for the 21st century,” Mr. Bush continued. “There are incredibly fine teachers that get paid less even though they’re doing the Lord’s work consistently over time, and there are teachers that are mediocre that get paid more because they’ve been there longer.”

Anyone that could flop ‘BDS’ out at the drop of a hat, doesn’t belong here.

The last incarnation nearly destroyed this nation. We’ll soon be in the second term of what he ushered in.

History books will sing the praises of his successor’s antics long after we’re gone.

The absolute worst legacy ever!

The only way that there will be a “next” Republican Administration is if the democrat Party agrees to let the Republican win.

Judging by the rather limited academic abilities of the vast majority of the younger folks possessing degrees in teaching, the academic requirements appear to be not exactly as demanding as they might have once been.

I know well that there are thousands of smart, talented and dedicated teachers out there. To them, I say, “Eject the druids in your group. They are slime and they are be-clowning you. As for the unions, treat a union as you would a fresh t*rd in your bowl. A union leader exists at almost the very top of the corruption ladder.”

Howeveer, the pinnicle of sleeze, corruption, and stupidity is not held by a union leader. It is proudly held by the Obamadork.”

Rubio is for “not a real”, “is a real”, “well it’s not quite a real”, “okay perhaps it is a real” Amnesty. I wouldn’t back that guy for official doggie poop collector.

Backing ‘his people’ in deference to ‘we the people’, eliminates him.

Considering Jeb Bush’s mania for amnesty, I have no interest in anything else he does, anything else he says, or anything else he stands for. To use a little riff borrowed from his horrid mother, “I hope he stays down there in Florida.”

Yes, I agree! Another thing that needs to happen is give teachers a choice to opt out of the union. I have no choice in the matter. I am forced to join the union by law. Really ticks me off that my dues are being used to elect people like Obama!!

I agree with you.

Man, the hate for anyone named "Bush" here on FR is as bad or worse than I've heard from extremist liberals.

All a big circle, isn't it?

I understand and have sympathy for the idea of not continuing a familial "dynasty"...but that isn't what I am seeing here. All I am seeing is vitriol and hate.

Not a real healthy thing, and not something that will help the cause of conservatism.

Ronald Reagan, from all that I read and heard from him, never engaged in such tactics. He was a warrior, but a happy one--and had ANSWERS...he didn't spew hate at an opponent.

Pretty discouraging to see his happiness ignored.

Some here, it seems, want to merely rail against ANYONE. No one, it seems, is good enough. No one.

Pretty darn pathetic. And not a Reagan-like attitude. There are too few people who remember him and his approach, I suppose.

Republican primaries are engineered to put up the establishment guy. Democrats throw themselves cult of personality curve balls.

The writings already on the wall.

The GOP will shove Jeb down our throats because he can “appeal to Hispanics”, ie pander.

Dems will double down and defeat Hillary again (her husband was the flash in the pan next new thing. She’s another mainstream politician). Mayor Castro from San Anton will be the nominee, the next flash and an essential ingredient to pushing Hispanic dem vote permanently above 80%.

Castro will win.

You guys think blaming GW Bush has legs that will run out. You’re wrong. They blamed Hoover through four election cycles.

Don’t bother blustering about never voting for Jeb. The GOP-e already knows it has your vote. That’s why you’re starting to see the Jeb reintroduction media party.

Prescott bush was fined a million dollars for dealing with the nazis, and later served briefly as the treasurer of Planned Parenthood. George senior was one of Reagan’s most vocal opponents as head of the CIA, prior to Reagan’s Presidential run, and was chosen on poor advice as his VP running mate. George senior then went on to squander the Reagan gains and further taint the GOP brand throughout the 90’s, ushering in the anti-semitic peanut farmer. His son as President embroiled us in two middle east conflicts, one of which resulted in an “islamic republic”, and the other which continues to this day under questionable rules of engagement, and has resulted in no tangible positive gains for the US other than lucrative military contracts and a severe stagnation of the domestic economy. He also presided over an open border with mexico, paying it lip-service, floated a big amnesty program that was eventually shouted down, then as a final gesture bailed out failing banks (mostly in europe we found out later) with US taxpayer money, adding further to a then historically large national debt and ushering in our first openly communist president. Now Jeb Bush promises to “reign in the teachers unions”, hoping it will strike a chord and catapult him into the frontrunner position as the Presidential candidate for 2016. We just don’t seem to learn from our mistakes.

Thank you!

I watched this man flood, devalue then finally CONFISCATE via eminent domain the homesteads, farms and property of friends and neighbors I truly cared a great deal for, under the guise of "saving our environment for future generations." Yes, that was the excuse he used.

Jeb and his lefty enviro-goon policies caused a great deal of real-world hardships on a lot of very good people and their families - yet we'll still hear poo-brained FReepers claim "BDS" when we oppose him.

No more hoping they will change after this election.

Jeb caved in to the teachers unions. NYT can dig those stories up in a heartbeat to depress the vote..These people are elitist and nuts! (HA!)
