The White House sharply escalated its attacks Tuesday on Republicans trying to stop Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice from succeeding Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state. Press secretary Jay Carney described GOP lawmakers as being gripped by a politically fueled "obsession" with a series of television appearances Rice made shortly after the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, in which she wrongly suggested the attack had stemmed from a demonstration over an anti-Muslim video rather than a terrorist assault.
Carney's comments came after Rice met privately on Capitol Hill with Republican senators who have said they intend to block her nomination if President Barack Obama chooses her to replace Clinton as the nation's top diplomat. Rice also acknowledged for the first time, in a written statement issued by her office, that her initial public comments on the Benghazi assault were wrong because there had been no protest outside the compound.
Carney said the U.S. still does not know who carried out the assault, which claimed the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. But he said GOP focus on Rice's early statements was a politically motivated distraction from efforts to identify those responsible for the killings.

But, the Benghazi complainers are cowards for not criticizing Obama, who touted the very same “video lie” as Rice several times in public.
Haven’t we had enough of affirmnative action bureaucrats? As a nation, a society, and a culture we have been on greased skids to at best mediocrity, but most likely collapse because of the insanity of affirmative action and the horror of political correctness it spawned.
Not the headline we'd see if it was the Bush White House and Condi Rice. It would all be about cover up, misinformation, questions about competence...
I’d much rather see her hanging around with people like Tom Coburn and Marco Rubio (for instance) than Grahamnesty and McLame.
Republicans are idiots. They should be talking about Rice advancing a White House orchestrated lie. They need to use the word lie and to pin the blame on the building, not the messiah. And they need to continue this line of explanation every time the little spokesperson tries to deflect.
Yes, we are obsessed with the Benghazi thing just like the media was with that terrible scandal about a crime that was never committed: the Valerie Plame one, that is. Remember when that was on the front page of the NYTimes and every other media outlet? Remember how outraged the libs were?

Yeah; methinks Obama doth protest too much. I’m far more concerned with OBAMA and BENGHAZI - why he was too busy farting around raising campaign money to SEND HELP to those people at Benghazi. Over SEVEN HOURS they pleaded. WHERE WAS OBAMA?

Nice to know there are at least 64 Million American Citizens, (well most of them are Citizens I think) who have no problem with any of this crap. Our Society is doomed.
I don't think there was a broken fingernail even among the perps. Here we have an assault on an American counsulate, 4 dead Americans including an ambassador, a U.N. ambassador and the entire administration lying about it.....and it is described as a "bump in the road."
