Make Up Turned Break Up
New York Times ^ | November 27, 2012 | MAUREEN DOWD

Posted on 11/27/2012 10:44:11 PM PST by Seizethecarp

“If I wanted to be secretary of state,” Collins observed, “I would not go on television and perform what was essentially a political role.”

Collins drew up a list of questions to ask Rice at their one-on-one hourlong meeting slated for Wednesday. She wants Rice to explain how she could promote a story “with such certitude” about a spontaneous demonstration over the anti-Muslim video that was so at odds with the classified information to which the ambassador had access. (It was also at odds with common sense, given that there were Al Qaeda sympathizers among the rebel army members that overthrew Muammar el-Qaddafi with help from the U.S. — an intervention advocated by Rice — and Islamic extremist training camps in the Benghazi area.)

The F.B.I. interviewed survivors of the attack in Germany and, according to some senators, had done most of the interviews of those on site by Sept. 15, the day before Rice went on TV, and established that there was no protest. Collins wants to learn if the F.B.I. had failed to communicate that, or if they had communicated it and Rice went ahead anyway?

When Rice heard the president of the Libyan National Congress tell Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation,” right before her appearance, that 50 people had been arrested who were either foreign or affiliated with or sympathized with Al Qaeda, why did she push back with the video story? “Why wouldn’t she think what the Libyan president said mattered?” Collins wondered.

Mo Dowd hits Susan Rice hard (again) on the NY Times pages, which will no doubt set Valerie Jarrett's hair on fire. Mo uses an apparent extensive interview she has had with Susan Collins as a vehicle to actually report on key Benghazigate facts for the first time in her column that may have escaped the attention of regular NY Times readers during the campaign when such news was suppressed.

Dowd does not at all treat Collins' comments as those of a "typical" old white racist, sexist Republican.

NBC led with the story of Rice's bumbling today so MSM coverage of Benghazigate seems to be really heating up.

So you mean to tell me that dowd actually has the glimmer of a conscience?
Oh boy. If dowd is breaking away on this, could signal a dent in o's armor. Then again, it could also signal a reinforcing of hillary's armor.

Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

The dowdy one is just clearing the path for shrillary in 2016. I guess they have decided “President for life” doesn’t sell just yet at the DNC. Years ago I heard from the pulpit that he didn’t believe BJ was the AntiChrist but in the same breath he added “Hillary might be”. Prophetic, I guess.

When Maureen Dowd writes the truth, it’s her way of letting her fellow liars know that these particular lies aren’t working.

Very interesting that Dowd would provide such a good analysis of this and appears very critical of Rice. I actually don’t see how this helps Hillary, either, because if you recall, Rice was simply the last one sent out to tell this improbable story. Unlike Hillary, she didn’t leave the country fast enough to escape questions and became the last visible regime representative standing.

Hillary had already told the same idiotic story but without such detail, and in fact Obama had originally tried to get Hillary to take the blame for the whole thing. She initially seemed to be willing to take the hit but then Bill (who controls all her actions) probably told her she was crazy to let Obama get away with it. And she was canny enough to shut up early on and escape any in-depth interviews by physically putting herself out of reach.

So there are a lot of unanswered questions about Hillary, too, and once they start peeling it back from Rice, it’s bound to reach her.

She’s just part of the group, including John McCain, who are agitating on behalf of John Kerry for Secretary of State.

"Team Clinton is on the move."

So true. Dowd mentions that she was "too tired" to go flacking the Obama lies about Benghazi on the Sunday talk shows and then suddenly made absolutely critical trips to Peru and Australia, where she was too engaged to talk about Benghazi.

She's dead-center in the middle of this mess and she is still hiding. Those GOP senators want to get really engaged, call Hillary now, not when she feels like it. Then hang on.

which should beg the question:

Why was the US UN Ambassador sent out to speak about a matters of State, Intelligence and Defense ?

I can't believe Rice can't see that she was sandbagged by the the WH.

Rice was sent out because Obama had already run through the other possible candidates (Hillary, the heads of various services, etc.) he had sent out to take the blame. A lot of them seem to have initially done his bidding, but then when things got hot and they realized there might be legal implications, they changed their stories (or left the country!).

But she stuck it out, either because she’s fanatically loyal to Obama, or more probably because she had been promised the position of SOS.
