Forget the stock market's dismal decade of much-ado-about-nothing and ignore the USD Dollar's declination; when it comes to reflection on what this once great nation has 'created' since 2001, the following chart from Pennsylvania's Department of Public Welfare sums it up better than most.
1. Food stamp enrollment was decresing between 2006 and 2007 and took off after 2007 - why? What happened in January of 2007?
2. Private employment was going up between 2006 and 2007 - After January 2007 started to go down - What happened in January of 2007?
3. Govt employment was going down between 2006 and 2008 -After January 2007 started to trend upward - What happened in January of 2007?
4. Medicare enrollment was going down between 2006 and 2007 - After January 2007 wnet up - What happened in January of 2007?
That’s amazing and that’s just the state of PA. I’d like to see a national chart.
Yes, but foodstamps still went up nearly 60% from 2001 to 2007.
I have decided we live in a Progressive society - R or D after a politician’s name means very little difference. People 200 years from now looking back and writing our history will see a clear uniformity of thought in the nation and its leadership.
I hope those are rhetorical questions. :) Because I know all freepers know who took over congress in Jan ‘07. :)
Yes I knew. :)
Santa Claus came to town in Jan. ‘07, with a female Boxtoxed gnome to guide his sleigh filled with spending schemes and IOUs.
It was the beginning of the financial crash in the USA, but no one cared as long as they could get the free stuff.
We need to recapture what’s left of the pride of our public. The reason we lost the election is that we have lost our culture. We reverse that by changing the culture, and that means we have to appeal to people’s pride.
For starters, I think we need to characterize Obama as “Food Stamp Bammy,” the same way Clinton was termed “Slick Willie.” Unfortunately, deep arguments don’t work with most Americans. Mockery and shame will.

Covers a coulple of points.
Rats taking Congress in 2007, an inflection point in the US economy.
Definition of ‘Inflection Point’
An event that results in a significant change in the progress of a company, industry, sector, economy or geopolitical situation. An inflection point can be considered a turning point after which a dramatic change, with either positive or negative results, is expected to result. Companies, industries, sectors and economies are dynamic and constantly evolving. Inflection points are more significant than the small day-to-day progress that is made and the effects of the change are often well-known and widespread.
It was up over 50% from 2001 - 2007. Plenty of blame to go around.
“What happened in January of 2007?”
Democrats gained control of Congress. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, etc., etc.
AKA the car-of-state was driven into the ditch. And they’re still “digging our way out” (actual Dem quote).
Obama hit the afterburner, didn’t he?
Pennsylvania has more voters than citizens. I wonder if the same holds true for subsistence recipients.
It’s not only what happened as of January, 2007, but 2008: the recession. Notice that as a whole, 2007 was still improving. It’s 2008 when the SHTF. But then, you’re thinking of the Democrat Congress, and, of course, their tax hikes pricked the bubble that caused the recession.
Also: Food stamp enrollment was probably surging prior to 2006 precisely because welfare was ending.
“Rats taking Congress in 2007...”
thats whats called buying the vote..right there!!!
Recently watched Ken Burns' Dust Bowl documentary and the people living in that time and place were portrayed as hard-working, independent, beaten down by the elements and the depression, yet despite their crushing circumstances, actually ashamed to take government handouts. The very idea was an affront to their pride (and it was an embarassment to them that their neighbors might find out).
My grandmother had that same pride. She never wanted to take government handouts, even the ones she was "entitled" to.
That sense of personal pride is not to be found in today's grifter class (the homegrown grifters along with the illegals on the dole). They're out for everything they can get at someone else's expense, and they have no shame about it.
I still like the little girls "Broncho Bamma.
