The Obama administration is set to reopen a crossing station at the Texas and Mexico border that was closed after the September 11 terrorist attack for security concerns, yet is newly constructed to be monitored by Border agents stationed hundreds of miles away.
Federal officials estimate the Boquillas crossing located in the Big Bend National Park will accommodate 20,000 visitors a year, whose entry into the U.S. will by monitored by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers 300 miles away in El Paso through surveillance cameras that will observe kiosks where identification cards are scanned for access.
Remote technology would assist CBP in maintaining security and verifying the identity of those entering the United States, while also ensuring that they possess proper documentation to do so, said the Federal Register notice announcing the project.
Documentation required to cross the border include a passport, border-crossing card or permanent resident card.
Construction of the new border crossing cost more than $5 million and Border Patrol officials estimate it will cost $200,000 a year to maintain. The station was scheduled to open with little fanfare earlier this spring but was delayed until after the election. Another opening date set for today was also postponed due to a scheduling conflict with President Barack Obamas cabinet meeting in Washington.

not to worry, Odungo said ALQ is on the run, no need to worry about nukes being walked in.
What a joke.

The United States of America, drifting further from perfection with every election.
Who are they trying to kid.?
watching from 300 miles away they are going to say NO?
Give me a frickin break.
Bad times
and getting worse by the day. Something has to get a choke hold on this out of control administration.
Hmmm....this gives me this idea.
You hook up an annex to every Wal-Mart with a dozen nurses at some Kiosks, and video-linked to doctors in China standing there and ready to go. You have a problem...ok, go to Wal-Chang and have your ailment diagnosed for $9.99. He sends a PDF prescription to the station which the nurse rips off and hands to you, and you go over to the Wal-Mart pharmacy to fill it.
Everything could be done for less. So if the borderstation makes sense, then my idea should make sense.
America, when the next terror attack occurs...and it will... remember you voted for this...
“What could possibly go wrong?”
I also expect Obama will go after Arizona with even more passion than before.
Time for individual states to tell D.C. to go to hell.
surveillance cameras, why even bother.
I wish they would and when the Feds come to forcibly reopen it.. let the shooting begin.

Two residents of Boquillas del Carmen wade from Texas
across the Rio Grande toward home. The official boundary
between the two countries is the midway point of the river.
The wife and I visited Big Bend last month. We were at one overlook where you could see people on the other side of the Rio Grande and wave at them if you want to. You can actually hear them talking.
I think we can count on it. Reminds me of the gunfight at the OK corral.
