O'Reilly: Dems to push for wealth tax (confiscation of private property)
O'Reilly Show/Fox | 11/28/12

Posted on 11/28/2012 8:12:21 PM PST by pabianice

Far from compromising, Dems will push for a "wealth tax" to take money away from people who they say have too much. Also, not one cut in Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or Obamacare. They are tripling down again. Meanwhile, Repubs in the House are already talking about tax increases.

So he's saying the Dems want to tax not just income but actual wealth? If so, that would be crossing a huge new line. In fact I'm not even sure it would be constitional for the federal government to do that (after googling a little bit, it clearly would not).

It doesn't surprise me they'd be considering it though. I saw Michael Moore pushing a wealth tax during the hubbub in Winsconsin. He said the answer to Wisconsin's budget problems was to ignore Scott Walker and instead just lay a direct tax on Wisconsin's wealthy. Of course that would've been state not federal, but the general idea is obviously dancing like sugar plums in leftist heads.

“The trick... is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and, hence, facilitate some redistribution, because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level, to make sure that everybody’s got a shot,” Obama said.

Don’t know if you’ve read or seen “City of Ember”....but it is another great one. The ‘time capsule’ in the movie (to me) represents our Constitution that was forgotten. They ended up living underground and eventually got a dictator who was hording all of the food. All jobs were ‘chosen’ for them by the ‘state’. Just like the communists.

“Wealthy”...anybody with a pot to piss in. They plan to confiscate your pot so you’ll only be able to use federally approved piss plans.

I’m not envious of honestly-earned wealth and I don’t really support a wealth tax. But it would be nice to see how far the idea gets and watch liberal rich b!tches from Roseanne Barr to Warren Buffet squirm.

Bitch and moan - bitch and moan, thats all they do about the wealthy ...

For Chrissakes, some guy wrote an opinion article about those that had generators during Superstorm Sandy - saying it wasn't fair that some people had them and others didn't ...

My god, how the hell did we get here so fast? I mean, I saw the train down the tracks but it wasn’t so long ago it seemed pretty far off in the distance.

I guess I noticed it when I moved back from the UK around 2000.....with a fresh perspective and I finally woke up from living there. I spoke to my family that I was worried about what I saw happening to our country and what I saw coming....and that the populace, in general, were (Oprah lovin’) stupid (as the UK, in general, who are obsessed with tabloid crap). Not to mention the BBC is VERY anti-American....as is most British media.

this is the reason that Warren Buffet is so adamant about the rich paying more in taxes...He is trying to avoid this very “wealth tax” at all costs I think that it is the worst idea since the inheritance tax...

This rationale is in line with the Kelo ruling of SCOTUS. A wealth tax is an eminent domain taking of your property by the government.

In Kelo, the court ruled that an eminent domain taking must be for a public use, and that the higher taxes gained by more profitable use by a different owner would be a public good. In other words, a public good was a valid public use.

Now they are saying that it is a public good to take more property from a wealthy private owner, but without fair compensation.

Later on, Dennis Miller said that calling Obama a “socialist” is an understatement (words to that effect).

O’reilly is pretty hot about this, I’d give him 6 months til he does finally call Obama a socialist.

People like him will be the end of this country. The Dems have successfully convinced 90+% of blacks that they are morally justified in having the government steal every dollar that isn’t nailed down and giving it to them. Mark my words, *nothing* will satisfy them. In their minds they are owed centuries’ worth of reparations.

Should the government start confiscating private wealth, I *WILL* be looking for a place to live outside the U.S. I have family in Greece but that isn’t a viable destination anymore, so I’d most likely be looking at land in the Phillipines. With what I’ve saved I should have little trouble affording a decent home.

O’Reilly dismantled “Dr.” Mark whatever-his-name-is in this argument.

Basically, if this “wealth tax” is instituted, the government will be able seize some of your property...or the tax value of it.

Progressives are truly mentally disturbed.

This rationale is in line with the Kelo ruling of SCOTUS.

Kelo is the MOST f'd up ruling SCOTUS has made since Dred Scott ...

The only silver lining in this whole mess is that AFTER New London acquired the properties, Pfizer BACKED OUT of its pledge to continue to build its campus, and the New London City Council was left holding their di*ks in their hands - and NO extra tax revenue ...

If the residents had been allowed to reamin - at least the city would still have gotten the property taxes on the old homes ...

A wealth tax is a direct tax and therefore explicitly forbidden by that Constitution thing, unless apportioned according to the census, which wouldn’t work for a wealth tax.

My problem with a wealth tax, at least as it was discussed on the show, is how to pay the tax if your wealth is tied up in property?

If one owns several cars for several homes, and has trust funds of stocks, but not a lot of cash lying around, then will they be forced to sell off property just to pay the tax each year?

How is selling a home in order to pay a tax on the wealth gained from owning the home in the first place, any different than an outright eminent domain taking of the home by the government?

What is this Constitution you speak of, and what bearing does it have on our government these days?

I live on Cebu.
Feel free to ask me for information.
Yes, life here is cheap, but you can not own property or business.
Those that do, have it in the name of their Philippine wife.
You can, however, get a long term lease, as much as fifty years, and build a house on it.
I knew a Brit that did that, and started construction on three homes, as he could own the house, but not the ground that it was built on.
Unfortunately, he died before the first house was completed.

I have been here for four years now, and happy as a clam.
It is not, however, for everyone.
You MUST have the right “attitude” and disposition, as well as a Philippine wife.
