HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A northwest Harris County homeowner fought back against two burglars Tuesday night and ended up shooting one of them.

It all happened at a home on Morgensen Drive at Zada Park Lane sometime before 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said a homeowner came home and noticed an upstairs light was on that wasn’t supposed to be. He went back to his car, got his gun, and headed back to the house.

The injured suspect's car had two flat tires. I wonder how that happened?

“Deputies said the homeowner carries a concealed handgun license.”

These lines always bother me. Many people unfamiliar with firearm laws think a license is required to own a firearm.

A permit is not pertinent to the story.

Since he got the gun out if the car, the permit might be relevant.

Damm, that’s a good shot. A man who takes his piece seriously.

It is. If he’s driving around with a gun in the car (assuming loaded and in reach - which was likely the case here), he better have a concealed - at least here in Texas.

But I agree - most of the time they bring this up it is a homeowner watching TV that gets his gun out when the bad guys break in.

Here in Florida you do not need a permit to carry a firearm in a car. As long as you have it in a case or glove box (not readily available) then its good.

I’m surprised you can’t do that in Texas of all places without a gun license.

In Texas you can as of a year or two ago.

In Texas you need a carry license to carry a gun on your person. You do not need a license to carry a gun within a vehicle. The only stipulation is that the gun cannot be seen by anyone looking into the vehicle from outside.

Thanks, you’re right. I guess we now look at one’s car as an extension of their house. Can’t complain about that...

“Q: Can I carry a firearm in my vehicle?

A: Yes. With the passage of the Motorist Protection Act you may now readibly carry handguns, loaded and within reach, so long as you conceal the firearm. Long guns (rifles / shotguns) do not have to be concealed and may be loaded and within reach.”

"Investigators said the wounded suspect didn’t make it far because his older model Lincoln Town car, complete with Houston Texans window flags, had two flat tires."

Hmmmmm. Wounded suspect, two flat tires..... I would call that excellent gun control.
