State Senator Proposes Dissolving City Of Detroit
CBS Detroit ^ | November 28, 2012

Posted on 11/29/2012 1:53:23 PM PST by jwsea55

LANSING (CBS Detroit) - It would no doubt be controversial, but the idea of dissolving the fiscally struggling city of Detroit and absorbing it into Wayne County is being tossed around in Lansing.

WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports some state Republicans are talking about giving the city the option to vote itself into bankruptcy. And mid-Michigan Senator Rick Jones said all options should be considered — including dissolving the city.

“If we have to, that is one idea we have to look at. We really have to look at everything that is on the table,” Jones said. “Again, if this goes to federal bankruptcy, every employee down there will suffer, the city will suffer and the vultures will come in and take the jewels of Detroit and they will be gone.”

Local consultant Tom Watkins has proposed this in the past, but the idea has never played well among Detroiters.

This is what I’ve been saying!

Detroit simply cannot exist as it is and pampering the place because it used to be an important city is just dissolving into farce. So what if it wont be the largest city in Michigan anymore. Some loss of pride is far better than loss altogether.

Divide it up and give the parts a chance to survive.

Detroit used to be the second largest city in the Midwest. Now that's Indianapolis!

The mighty have fallen

OK -- so let's just build a wall around Detroit. Topped by electrified razor wire. Then all Detroit's jewels will be "safe".

State Senator Rick Jones may be on to something. A few years back, I read that Memphis dissolved their their charter. I think it had to do with debts run up before, during and after the unCivil War. I don’t remember to much about it, but it came to mind reading this.

But, but Government Motors was saved from extinction in Detroit - - - ?

Didn’t the $40,000 loss per manufactured Chevy Volt make any difference?

Surely the Government Regulators will regulate against Detroit being in debt to deep to fail?

Rumor has it that right after Obama’s Hawaiian Golf Vacation he will come to Detroit and give a speech, or something like it. It all depends on the Detroit temperature tolerance of Obama’s teleprompter.

Tje state people would merely be rearranging Detroit’s face and calling it by another name. The same type of people would still be in charge.

if they are going to dissolve it, they ought to use a powerful enough acid to make sure it does not come back. I was there just a couple of months ago and a couple of weeks back as well. It has turned into a sewer. You do not want to take a wrong turn. Sickening.

Dissolve it? Having visited Detroit...recently...I'd say that about 75 kilotons would be a good start.

That actually had to do with one of the yellow fever epidemics when the population fled Memphis. It took several decades for the city to recover.

If a P & L and Balance Sheet were prepared, audited and published on a quarterly basis, and if there was downsizing every quarter there was a loss, immediately, until there was a quarter that was profitable, cities and states would not go bankrupt.

But they hide and obfuscate with the help of the news media.

Most towns, cities, counties and state operate that way, they just keep borrowing and jacking up taxes to pay for their corrupt overspend.

Until now, when there’s no getting more blood from the tax turnip.

P & L and Balance Sheet

Are those some new politically correct acronyms and terms released by the left? Or do they have some sort of socially or sexually deviant meanings?

I know those terms might have some meaning in business but those terms wouldn't apply to government. :-\)

I am thinking a cat turd may have some value as a fertilizer. I think you may be over estimating the value of the Motor City.

Better — use Detroit as a live fire urban warfare training center where combined arms of infantry, armor, artillery, and aviation can play with the local thugs, Detroit Education Association, city union goons, and corrupt politicians.

Well, it's a start.

The end game would be to dissolve every city and state where the elected politicians have wound up making a mess.

This would leave Texas, North Dakota and Wyoming in charge of the whole shitteree.

Not sure they would take it, though.

My first instinct was to write about how Detroit lost its economic reason for being but then remembered that Metropolitan Detroit (the donut around the hole) still manages to exist quite nicely.

The city's problems are political.

Look at this article. After 51 years of dimocrats creating this situation this dumb, stupid SOB Detroit Mayor Dave Bing states the obvious. DOH! Ya think? Well dumb@ss, it's not just city workers that feel entitled, it's them and your whole ignorant Obama voting city! You will get what you deserve and I will be watching and enjoying the chaos that ensues. Then he throws in a little Agenda 21:

“he wants to convince people in largely abandoned neighborhoods to move to more populated areas so there’s density and a sense of a tight-knit community again, saying, “So we can bring people and families together like it used to be.”

Yeah, well, we'll see how that works for ya.
