State Senator Proposes Dissolving City Of Detroit
CBS Detroit ^ | November 28, 2012

LANSING (CBS Detroit) - It would no doubt be controversial, but the idea of dissolving the fiscally struggling city of Detroit and absorbing it into Wayne County is being tossed around in Lansing.

WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports some state Republicans are talking about giving the city the option to vote itself into bankruptcy. And mid-Michigan Senator Rick Jones said all options should be considered — including dissolving the city.

“If we have to, that is one idea we have to look at. We really have to look at everything that is on the table,” Jones said. “Again, if this goes to federal bankruptcy, every employee down there will suffer, the city will suffer and the vultures will come in and take the jewels of Detroit and they will be gone.”

Local consultant Tom Watkins has proposed this in the past, but the idea has never played well among Detroiters.

Isn’t the city pretty much dissolving as it is?

Would Wayne county bend over and spread for the opportunity to become the new Wayne-Detroit County?

Sounds like a good movie - “Escape from Detroit”.
Snake Pliskin could take over.

You remind me of the side by side pictures of a few years ago showing Hiroshima & Detroit before & after.

That actually had to do with one of the yellow fever epidemics when the population fled Memphis. It took several decades for the city to recover.

If a P & L and Balance Sheet were prepared, audited and published on a quarterly basis, and if there was downsizing every quarter there was a loss, immediately, until there was a quarter that was profitable, cities and states would not go bankrupt.

But they hide and obfuscate with the help of the news media.

Most towns, cities, counties and state operate that way, they just keep borrowing and jacking up taxes to pay for their corrupt overspend.

Until now, when there’s no getting more blood from the tax turnip.

... jewels of Detroit. O.o "Jewels. Of. Detroit?"

No matter how well you polish a cat turd or how you make it shine, it's still a cat turd.

P & L and Balance Sheet

Are those some new politically correct acronyms and terms released by the left? Or do they have some sort of socially or sexually deviant meanings?

I know those terms might have some meaning in business but those terms wouldn't apply to government. :-\)

I am thinking a cat turd may have some value as a fertilizer. I think you may be over estimating the value of the Motor City.

Why is it fair for the entire county to be burdened with Detroit & the Muslims and the over 80 mosques???

More contamination, IMO.

Detroit is dead thanks to all the DemiRATs for the last 50 years. No more Hudson's, Bob-Lo Boat gone along with Bob-Lo Island, businesses are gone from Woodward Ave, culture is dead,....just bury the rotting corpse already.

Better — use Detroit as a live fire urban warfare training center where combined arms of infantry, armor, artillery, and aviation can play with the local thugs, Detroit Education Association, city union goons, and corrupt politicians.

Well, it's a start.

The end game would be to dissolve every city and state where the elected politicians have wound up making a mess.

This would leave Texas, North Dakota and Wyoming in charge of the whole shitteree.

Not sure they would take it, though.

This is an interesting subject, thanks for bringing it up. Among the Amazing Facts at the link, the founder of the NAACP was a Republican from Memphis...

My first instinct was to write about how Detroit lost its economic reason for being but then remembered that Metropolitan Detroit (the donut around the hole) still manages to exist quite nicely.

The city's problems are political.
